Basic Concepts:
These are the most common math topics in any competitive exam. It basically judges your ability
to juggle with numbers, form equations, and solve those using basic mathematical operations.
Everything you have learned so far will be used to solve the math problems in this chapter. Below
are some useful formulas:
1. (𝑎 + 𝑏)2 = 𝑎2 + 2𝑎𝑏 + 𝑏 2
2. (𝑎 + 𝑏)2 = (𝑎 − 𝑏)2 + 4𝑎𝑏
3. (𝑎 − 𝑏)2 = 𝑎2 − 2𝑎𝑏 + 𝑏 2
4. (𝑎 − 𝑏)2 = (𝑎 + 𝑏)2 − 4𝑎𝑏
5. 𝑎2 + 𝑏 2 = (𝑎 + 𝑏)2 − 2𝑎𝑏
6. 𝑎2 + 𝑏 2 = (𝑎 − 𝑏)2 + 2𝑎𝑏
7. 𝑎2 − 𝑏 2 = (𝑎 + 𝑏)(𝑎 − 𝑏)
8. (𝑎 + 𝑏)2 − (𝑎 − 𝑏)2 = 4𝑎𝑏
9. 𝑎3 + 𝑏 3 = (𝑎 + 𝑏)(𝑎2 − 𝑎𝑏 + 𝑏 2 )
10. 𝑎3 + 𝑏 3 = (𝑎 + 𝑏)3 − 3𝑎𝑏(𝑎 + 𝑏)
11. 𝑎3 − 𝑏 3 = (𝑎 − 𝑏)(𝑎2 + 𝑎𝑏 + 𝑏 2 )
12. 𝑎3 − 𝑏 3 = (𝑎 − 𝑏)3 + 3𝑎𝑏(𝑎 − 𝑏)
