SURROUNDINGS”

At the end of the lesson, all of you are expected to:

a. Identify the things found in the
surroundings;
b. Describe the things found in the
surroundings; and
c. State the importance of surroundings to
people.

D. DISCUSSION

Many things make up our surroundings. The

surroundings are made up of living and non-living
things. Living things includes people, plants and
animals while the non-living things are water forms,
soil, rocks and landforms.

Let’s read this story about THE SURROUNDINGS

OF JACK.

Jack is a boy that always stays at home and

never goes out of the house by his own. Even
from school, he goes straight to the house. His
father bought him a new remote control toy car
and as he was playing with it, it went outside (Pupils are reading all together)
because the door was left open. He decided to go
out and find the toy car. He was looking for the
toy car and it went far from his home. As he went
back home, for the first time he saw tall trees, felt
fresh air, animals around such as dogs and cats.
He also saw high mountains and a river. When
he arrived home, he told his parents his
experience. From that, after school, he plays
outside with his neighbors and cousins.
Very amusing, Teacher!
How was the story about Jack?

You will know the relationship between “Jack” and

“the surrounding” by observing the Chart.

• The Chart tells us that the surrounding is

important for the people and other living things that
live in it.
• Many things make up our surroundings. Our
surroundings are made up of living things and non-
living things. These living things include people,
plants and animals while nonliving things include
bodies of water, soil, rocks and landforms.
• The environment includes plants, animals, people,
the air, sun, weather and the Earth itself.
• Plants are the primary habitat for thousands of
other organisms.
• They provide shade, help moderate the
temperature, and protect animals from wind.
• Because of their usefulness, plants are important
elements of our human world.
• Every little thing is important whether it is living
or non-living things, we need to take good care of
them. Yes, Teacher!

Do all of you understand, class?

Alright. Get your science notebook and complete

the Magic Square Chart.

Directions: Observe your surrounding and

complete the chart.

(The answer depends in their own opinions)

(After checking…)

REMEMBER:

 Living things are alive. They need food,

water and air. They can reproduce, grow,
change on their own and respond to
changes in the environment.
 Non-living things are those things that
can’t move on their own. They don’t
grow. They don’t need food and water.
They don’t reproduce and they don’t
breathe.
Let us move forward. (Pupils are listening)

Surroundings also includes the landforms and water

forms just like the 4 pictures 1 word such as ocean,
falls, mountains and river.

In addition to your learning, here is some examples

THE IMPORTANCE OF SURROUNDINGS

AND HOW WE SHOULD TAKE CARE OF IT:

 The environment has a significant impact on

human health. It is significant because it is
the only home that humans have and
provides air, food, and other necessities. The
entire life support system of humanity is
dependent on the health of all environmental
factors.
 Surroundings helps our daily lives improve
for the better.
 We can take care of it by taking good care of
our surroundings.
 Plant trees to avoid soil erosion and floods.
