Introduction

In this modern era, technological developments continue to grow, because technological

developments will go according to the development of increasingly high science. Technology was created to

provide convenience for human life in carrying out daily activities and provide positive value (Indrawarsari,

2019). However, even though it was originally created to produce positive benefits, on the other hand it is

also possible to use it for negative things. Many advanced technologies have been created, for example

gadgets (Mosquera, Valles & de Luna, 2016). Technological progress has made such a big change in human

life in various fields and has had such a big influence on social life (Sahetapy, 2021). Gadgets are a

technological tool that is currently growing rapidly and has special functions, including smartphones and

tablets (Fauzi, 2018). Gadgets with various applications can present various social media so that they are

often misused and also have a bad impact on student academic scores (Das, 2018). It is not surprising that

gadgets in this era are much liked by children. Because gadgets in the current era have turned into interesting

items, especially in touchscreen technology and have also been equipped with various applications that

attract attention, especially in children. The use of gadgets among children, (Aprianti, F., et al., 2022)

Technology has changed our lives in many ways, including how we learn in school. Gadgets like

smartphones, tablets, and laptops are everywhere, giving us easy access to information, fun learning tools,

and ways to communicate. But as technology becomes more common in education, we need to understand

how it affects students' academic performance.

This research looks into how gadgets impact the learning outcomes, such as grades, of the Grade 10

students at San Jose National High School. While gadgets can help students learn better by providing access

to online resources, educational apps, and virtual classrooms, there are concerns that they might also distract

students, reduce their focus, and even lead to cyberbullying.

This study aims to explore the relationship between using gadgets and academic performance,

specifically grades, among Grade 10 students at San Jose National High School. By studying how much

students use gadgets, how they think it affects their academic performance, and the challenges and benefits

of using gadgets in learning, this research aims to provide valuable insights for teachers, policymakers, and

students.
The results of this research will help us understand how technology can be used effectively in

education, maximizing its benefits while managing any potential risks. This study will also serve as a useful

example for other schools and educational institutions looking to understand how to navigate the changing

landscape of technology in education.

Statement of the Problem

This study determines the influence of gadgets in the grades of the grade 10 students of San Jose

National High School, School Year 2024-2025.

Specifically, it aims to answer the following questions:

1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of:

a. Age

b. Sex

2. What is the frequency of use of students on the following gadgets:

a. Laptops

b. Smartphones

c. Tablets

3. What is the influence of gadgets in the students’ grades in terms of:

a. Creativity

b. Critical Thinking

c. Entertainment

4. Is there a significant relationship between frequency of use and influence of gadgets in the grades

of the students?

5. What intervention scheme may be proposed based on the findings of the study?
Assumptions of the Study

This study focuses on the following assumptions:

1. The profile of the respondents in terms of gender and age varies.

2. The frequency of use of gadgets on the following gadgets such as Laptops, Smartphones, and

Tablets.

3. The influence of gadgets in grades as perceived by the students in terms of creativity, critical

thinking, and entertainment varies.

4. The intervention scheme may be proposed based on the findings of the study.

Hypothesis

Locale/Settings of the Study

The main locale of the study is San Jose National High School. It is located at Purok Avocado, San

Jose, Libon, Albay.

This study focuses on the influence of gadgets in the grades of the Grade 10 Students. Gadgets are

useful tools that can be used by students in their studying. The school have a policy that cellphones are not

allowed unless it is instructed by the teacher or is needed in the learning process.

Significance of the Study

This study determines the influence of gadgets in the grades of the Grade 10 Students at San Jose

National High School.

This is significant to the following:

Students. This is important to the to know the benefits and consequences of gadgets to their grades

and help them study efficiently and effectively.

Teachers. This will help the teachers make instructional lesson using different gadgets in the

teaching and learning process.

Parents. This will serve as guide in establishing rules and regulation for responsible use of gadgets

in their children.

Community. This study will show the possible influence of of using gadgets in the learning process

of the students.
School Administration. This study might be used in creating lined rules and regulation in the

utilizing gadgets in the school.

Department of Education. This will serve as a guide to the institution for the improvement for

established rules and regulation about the usage of gadgets in the school.

Future Researchers. This study will help the future researchers in their own research to conduct the

study about the technological advancements.

Scope and Delimitation

The main objective of this study is to assess the influence of gadgets in terms of creativity, critical

thinking, and entertainment of the Junior High School Students who are enrolled in Grade 10 at San jose

National High School on the manners and perceptions of the students in using gadgets. The objectives were

limited to the influence of gadgets in the grades of the students in the school, School year 2024 - 2025. it was

limited to the three sections of Grade 10 namely: Masigasig, Magiting, and Matatag.

Definition of Terms

To make the study easier to understand. The following terms are defined conceptually and

operationally.

Frequency of Use. It refers to the rate of an individual as documented by the number of times per

day, week, or month, as appropriate, a supply is used by an individual. (Law Insider Dictionary). In this

study, it refers to the numbers of time or how often the gadgets are used by the respondents in learning.

Gadgets. It is often a small mechanical of electronic device with a practical use but often thought of

as a novelty. (Merriam-Webster, n. d.). In this study, gadgets are tools that are used by the respondents to

improve their learning. In this study, gadgets like smartphones, laptops , and tablets are used by the

respondents to improve their learning.

Influence. The power or capacity of causing an effect in indirect or intangible way. (Merriam-

Webster, n. d.) In this study, it is the effect in the grades of the students.

Grades. A mark indicating a degree of accomplishment in school (Merriam-Webster, n. d.) In this

study, it is the outcome of having gadgets as a guide for some learning aspects.
