 Key Advantages of IDDFS (Iterative Deepening Depth-First Search) Over DFS: IDDFS combines the

space efficiency of Depth-First Search (DFS) with the completeness of Breadth-First Search (BFS).
Unlike standard DFS, which can get stuck exploring infinite depths, IDDFS repeatedly performs DFS
with increasing depth limits. This ensures that all nodes are examined up to a certain depth before
proceeding deeper, guaranteeing the optimal solution if it exists. IDDFS is particularly useful for tree
search problems with unknown depth, offering a balance between memory use and exhaustive
search.

 Challenges in Hill Climbing Algorithm: Hill Climbing is a local search algorithm that aims to find the
best solution by incrementally improving the current state. However, it has limitations:

 Local Maxima: It can get stuck in a suboptimal solution if a local peak is found instead of the
global maximum.

 Plateau Problem: A flat area with no improvement can stop progress, leaving the algorithm
with no direction.

 Ridges: High-dimensional spaces can have paths that are difficult for the algorithm to follow
directly, limiting its efficiency. To overcome these, variants like stochastic hill climbing and
simulated annealing are used.

 Define State Search Space: The state search space represents all possible configurations or states a
problem can take. Each state represents a unique configuration, and the search space is structured
by the relationships or transitions between these states. For instance, in a pathfinding problem, the
search space includes all possible locations (states) the agent can navigate, with paths between them
representing possible moves. Search algorithms explore this space to find a path from the initial state
to the goal.

 Define Turing Test: The Turing Test, proposed by Alan Turing, is an evaluation of a machine’s ability
to demonstrate human-like intelligence. In this test, a human interacts with both a machine and
another human through text communication without knowing which is which. If the human
evaluator cannot distinguish the machine from the human based on their responses, the machine is

 Search Algorithm: Chooses an appropriate search algorithm (e.g., A*).

 Goal Test: Checks if the current state meets the goal conditions.

 Execution: Executes the plan once a solution is found. Each step helps the agent
systematically explore solutions and choose an optimal or feasible path toward the goal.

 Types of Agents in AI: AI agents are categorized as follows:

 Simple Reflex Agents: These agents respond directly to what they see or sense in the
environment by following a set of predefined rules. Don’t think about past events.

 Model-Based Reflex Agents: These agents can handle more complex situations because they
keep track of some information about the environment and past.

 Goal-Based Agents: Make decisions to achieve specific goals.

 Utility-Based Agents: Utility-based agents are the most advanced. They can evaluate
different options to choose the one that maximizes a measure called "utility" (or usefulness).

 Representational Adequacy: The ability to represent various types of knowledge.

 Inferential Adequacy: This means that the system can use the knowledge it has to find new
information or make logical conclusions.

and efficiently.

 Acquisitional Efficiency: This means the system can learn or add new knowledge easily.

(knowledge) rather than on the sequence or management of these actions (control). This
means the system can apply the right rules at the right time without being restricted

 Heuristic Function for A Search*: In A* search, the heuristic function estimates the cost to reach
the goal from a node. To compute it, analyze the remaining distance or estimated effort. For
instance, in a map, the straight-line distance can be a heuristic. The heuristic helps prioritize paths,
improving the algorithm’s speed and efficiency by guiding it towards the goal while avoiding
unnecessary nodes.

 Basic Steps of Hill Climbing Algorithm: The hill climbing algorithm involves:

 Starting at an Initial State.

 Evaluating Neighboring States: Examines states around the current one.

 Moving to a Better Neighbor: Transitions to the neighboring state with the best
improvement.

 Repeating until no further improvements are found. Hill climbing seeks optimal solutions by
local adjustments but may encounter local maxima or plateaus.

 DFS Algorithm: Depth-First Search (DFS) is a search algorithm that explores as far as possible along
each branch before backtracking. Starting from the root, it explores each path to its depth limit
before moving to the next branch. DFS is memory efficient as it only stores the current path but may
not find the shortest path in graphs with cycles.

 Differences Between DFS and BFS:

 Search Pattern: DFS explores depth-wise, while BFS explores breadth-wise.

 Memory Usage: DFS uses less memory as it only tracks a single path, whereas BFS uses more
memory to store all levels.

 Completeness: BFS is complete in finite spaces, while DFS is not guaranteed to find a
solution.

 Optimality: BFS finds the shortest path, unlike DFS, which may not.

 Difference Between Completeness and Optimality in Search:

 Completeness: Refers to an algorithm's ability to find a solution if one exists.

 Optimality: Refers to finding the best (shortest/least costly) solution among possible
solutions. For example, BFS is both complete and optimal in unweighted graphs, while DFS is
complete but not optimal.

 Comparing Efficiency of BFS and DFS: BFS and DFS have different efficiencies depending on the
problem:

 BFS: Best suited for finding the shortest path in unweighted graphs and complete in finite
graphs.

 DFS: Better for exploring large search spaces where memory is limited but can miss optimal
solutions. BFS is generally more memory-intensive, whereas DFS is less demanding but may
take longer to find the shortest path.
