MAN B&W ME EFI main engine is different from the traditional camshaft
main engine. A PMI sensor is installed between the cylinder head of the
main engine and the dynamometer valve. The signal in the cylinder is
transmitted to the PMI monitor in the engine room control room, which can
continuously monitor the main engine. The burst pressure, compression
pressure and performance of each cylinder. With the MOP machine
control operation interface of the EFI main engine, timely monitoring and
optimal adjustment can achieve the characteristics of improving the
operating conditions of the main engine and improving fuel economy.
However, all of this is based on the accuracy of the PMI sensor (PMI
online sensor) installed on the cylinder head. If the PMI sensor is
damaged or the line is abnormal, the entire PMI monitoring system will be
lost. Its proper function affects the monitoring and adjustment when the
host is running. Therefore, there are certain maintenance and precautions
for the PMI sensor:
First of all, do not open the indicator valve for blowing and release when
the main engine is running. In addition, the indicator valve must not leak
air. It is best to keep the cover of the main engine construction valve
closed during sailing.
The second is to reduce the number of times the main engine blows the
car, and try to use SLOW TURN when blowing the car. Generally, after the
main engine is finished, the main engine will be blown. When the test
drive is performed before departure, it will also be blown first. Especially
for a near-ocean container ship like ours, it enters and leaves the port
more frequently, so when the car is finished, it does not blow the car, but
just blows the car when it leaves the port for the test drive, and chooses
SLOW TURN instead of AIR RUN, because the main engine blows the
car. When the momentary large pressure and flow shock are more likely
to damage the PMI sensor.
Another and most important one is to calibrate the PMI sensor in use
regularly. According to IMO MARPOL Annex VI, NOX Technical code, the
calibration of the PMI Senser in use must be done every 12 months.
Next, I will briefly talk about the calibration of the PMI sensor.
The calibration of the PMI sensor in use requires the use of a PMI offline
pressure sensor (PMI offline pressure sensor) with a calibration
certificate, and a calibrator.
The first is to select Maintenance in the PMI Auto tuning window, then
select Tools, and then select Calibration. You can see the time when the
last PMI sensor calibration was performed. Then you can press NEXT:
Then install the PMI offline pressure sensor on the indicator valve of the
first cylinder of the main engine, then connect the wiring of the PMI offline
pressure sensor to the calibration instrument, and use another wire to
connect the calibration instrument to the special socket of the main
cylinder head layer.
Note that when the PMI offline pressure sensor is not installed on the
indicator valve, do not open the indicator valve for blowing. After the PMI
offline pressure sensor is connected to the indicator valve, open the
indicator valve, press the OK button on the calibrator, and wait until a
number appears on the calibrator to complete the cylinder. Then remove
the PMI offline pressure sensor and install it on the indicator valve of the
next cylinder to complete the measurement of each cylinder in turn.
