1. What is the Rizal Law all about?


REPUBLIC ACT No. 1425 - An Act to Include in the Curricula of All Public and
Private Schools, Colleges and Universities Courses on the Life, Works and Writings of
Jose Rizal, Particularly His Novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, Authorizing
the Printing and Distribution Thereof, and for Other Purposes
The Rizal Law, officially known as Republic Act No. 1425, is a Philippine law enacted
on June 12, 1956. It requires all educational institutions in the Philippines to include
courses on the life, works, and writings of José Rizal, a national hero of the country. The
main goal of the law is to promote patriotism and nationalism among Filipinos by making
Rizal's ideas and contributions a central part of the education system.

2. What is the purposes of the law?


As I have read the Rizal Law or The Republic Act No. 1425 it represents a significant
milestone and remembrance of fondness of Philippine heroes and history. It shapes our
national identity through education. The law’s purpose is more than academic lessons but
serves as a crucial instrument for fostering patriotism, preserving national heritage,
inspiring civic responsibility, and enhancing historical awareness among Filipinos. It
seeks to promote patriotism and nationalism. Most notable purposes from the RA:
 Re-dedication to the ideals of freedom and nationalism
 Honoring them, particularly Rizal and their influence from their impact and
devotion
 Constant and inspiring source of patriotism
 To develop moral character, personal discipline, civic conscience, and teach the
duties of citizenship
José Rizal, a national hero revered for his role in the struggle for Philippine
independence, embodies the values of courage, intellect, and commitment to social
justice. Understanding Rizal’s dedication to his country encourages learners to appreciate
their heritage and develop a stronger connection and inspiration to their country.Rizal’s
writings, particularly his seminal works "Noli Me Tangere" and "El Filibusterismo,"
offer invaluable insights into the societal and political conditions of his time. These
works are not merely literary artifacts but are reflective of the historical struggles and
aspirations of the Filipino people. The law helps to maintain the continuity of Philippine
history and culture, allowing new generations to engage with and understand their past.

Rizal's life was characterized by his commitment to social reform and his belief in the
power of education to effect change. By studying his contributions, students are
encouraged to adopt similar values and engage in constructive activities that benefit
society. Rizal's example serves as a powerful reminder of the impact that individual
actions can have on the broader community, motivating students to take an active
role in addressing social issues and contributing to national development. It provides
a comprehensive understanding of the Philippine struggle for independence and the
broader context of the country's history. Rizal’s role in the fight against Spanish colonial
rule is a crucial element of this narrative. Through the study of his life and works,
students gain a deeper appreciation of the historical forces that shaped the nation and the
sacrifices made by those who fought for its freedom.

3. Is Rizal Law still a valid or a good law?


In my opinion, as someone who values History more than Chismis, is that The Rizal Law
remains as a reflection of how history repeats but we can always choose to learn from it.
The Rizal Law is relevant and Jose Rizal’s advocacy of justice, reform, and nationalism
addresses themes that are still pertinent in today’s society. His works offer profound
insights into governance, individual responsibility, and national pride and the law helps
preserve and propagate Rizal’s vision, encouraging students to reflect on and apply these
principles in contemporary contexts.
As a part of the new generation and coming into society, The Rizal Law fosters this sense
by embedding Filipino cultural values and historical perspectives into the education
system. It serves us our motivation as Filipino people to maybe not go out of the country
after we graduate. (joking). Although, I am still curious though on why Jose Rizal only
and not other prominent heroes? In my personal thoughts, I picture Jose Rizal being the
Alexander Hamilton of it all and how every injustice experienced by all Filipino people
before roots down to his works and personality. We develop an understanding and
appreciating to our national heritage and history, which is essential for nurturing a
cohesive national identity and country. As long as its implementation remains robust and
meaningful, the Rizal Law will continue to serve as a cornerstone of Philippine education
and national consciousness.
