LESSON 2: CONDUCT COMPETENCY ASSESMENT

1.Establishing the context and purpose of assessment

KEY INSIGHTS:
The assessor must:
■ Familiarize her self

■ Ensure the assessment site complies occupational health and safety requirements

■ Ensure the assessment resources are available (e,g. tool, equipment and facilities) are ready to
use and available .
■ Must ensure the ability and completeness of the tools.

2. Plan and prepare the evidence gathering process

KEY INSIGHTS:
The assessor must receive the following:
■ One copy of assessor’s guide

■ Specific instruction to the candidate

■ Competency assessment results summary

■ Written report

■ Written test

■ Answer sheets

■ Rating sheets according to the record of assessment to be used according to the number of
candidates.

3. Preparing the candidate

KEY INSIGHTS:
● The first thing to do of a assessor is introducing herself.

● Acknowledging the presence of TESDA representatives.

● Checking the attendance and identify of candidates and collect the admission clips.

● Instructing the candidates to sign their attendance sheet.

● Present in the candidates an accomplishment application with self assessment guide

4. ORIENTATION

KEY INSIGHTS:
Conducting an orientation to the candidates.
● Explain the purpose and the context of the assessment.

● Present the qualification or units of competency to be assessed.

● Qualification composed of basic,common,core competencies and explain each qualifications.

● Explain the procedure of the task to be undertaken.

● Explaining the needs of the candidates to be considered during the assessment.


Example: (Laboratories and canteen)
● Explain the Do’s and Dont’s when during the assessment.

● Explain the rights and appeal system

● Explain the insurance certificate of competencies on the certificate of competency. Guide the
candidates to get their national certificate.
● Explain the procedures after the assessment.

● Explain the occupational health safety and health requirements during the assessment.

● Explain the confidentially outcomes.

● Provide a copy to each candidate of the specific instruction.

● Give assigned numbers to the candidate

● Instructing the candidate to proceed to their area according to their assigned numbers while the
other is waiting in the waiting area.

5. Collecting the evidence and make a assessment decisions.

KEY INSIGHTS:
● Explain to the candidates the task to be perform.

● Ask the candidate to read the instruction once again.


● Ask the candidate if there are questions or clarifications regarding to the instruction.

● Conduct assessment according with the methodologies specified with evidence plan and the
specific instruction of the company assessor.
● Implement the evidences gathering process and ensure its validity, reliability, fairness, and
flexibility.
● Observe the candidate and keep notes for the candidate performance. The note could be the
guide for the feedback.
● Collect evidence that match compability to the elements, performance

● Judge the evidence in terms of validity, consistency, currency, recency, authenticity, and
sufficiency.
● After demonstration the assessor must give a feedback to the candidate based on her
performance.
● Make a real questioning to the candidate to answer all questions.

● It could be the some of the answer of candidate is incorrect so must prefer good suggestion and
gives a feedback in a positive way.
● Record in the rating sheets details of the evidence and collect. And the judgement will begin
about the candidates performance.

6. Record and report result

The recording of the assessor outcome

● Ensure signed by the candidate after providing feedback.

● Accomplish the assessment results summary.

● Submit the assessment reports to:

⮚ Resistry of workers assessed and certified

⮚ Assesor

⮚ Assessment center manager
