CIRCULAR
Sub.: Guidelines regarding Internship for the students studying Skill/
VocationalSubjects in Class XI for the session 2024-25

Internship/ On the Job Training (OJT) gives the students a first-hand experience of
working in a real-life work environment. Internship is conducted at the workplace
and the students must follow the prescribed rules and regulations during
Internship.
The following guidelines for the Internship are to be followed for facilitation and
monitoring:

1. Overall requirement for Internship:

a. CBSE Skill/ Vocational Education curriculum has recommended 80 Hours


of Internship at Senior Secondary level either in class XI or in class XII.

b. Internship is non-evaluative and the student will undergo Internship


only after NOC (in Annexure-2) from the parent is received. The
students are advised to undergo Internship in Class XI to have some
exposure of working in the industrial/ commercial establishments.

c. Internships is to be organized in one or combination of the following


ways:
(i) During Autumn break;
(ii) Winter break;
(iii) After the Final Exam of class XI in March every year (if not
completed in Autumn/ Winter) for class XI when the students can
utilize their free time in a meaningful way and can get hands on
experience;
(iv) After school hours in case of General & Morning shift schools
Or before school hours in case of Evening shift schools if the
students are willing and as per feasibility and availability of
employers in order to ensure continuity of Internship and
completion of 80-hours of Internship.

The PTVT/ VT to ensure that the students of class XI
complete the Internship preferably under option (i) to (iii).
However, if highly required due to any reason then option
(iv) may be considered after approval of the HoS.

In case of option (i), (ii) and (iii) mentioned above, the student
must undergo 4-6 Hours of internship on daily basis and the
Internship is to completed within a period of 14 to 20 days.

d. Those students who have completed 80 hours of Internship in class XI,


are not required to do Internship again in class XII and thus they will be
able to concentrate on their Board Exam in class XII.

e. For the academic year 2024-25, the Internship is to be completed by the


end of March 2025 only. The HoS should ensure that the OJT is strictly
to be organized by the PTVT/ VT as per the guidelines. And after the
completion of OJT by the interested students certificate of completion
issued by the employers is to be submitted by the PTVT/ VT to the HoS.

f. Internships should be arranged with Employer/ Industry (Micro, Small,


Medium or Large Business Enterprises) preferably in the field related to
the student's trade and job role and located preferably in close proximity
to the school.

Internship is to be conducted with consent from parents/ local guardians

and support from Vocational Trainers (VTs)/ Vocational Training Provider
(VTP)/ Part Time Vocational Teachers (PTVTs).

h. During Internship, the students are required to be engaged in real world


working projects of the organization under the guidance of Internship
provider. Vocational Training Providers/ VTs/ VCs/ Part Time Vocational
Teachers and HoSs must ensure that students get hands-on training and
activity-based learning.

i. The PTVT / VT will report to the school every day and daily attendance
record of PTVT/ VT is to be maintained during the period of Internship.
The HoS would ensure that the PTVT/ VT monitor Internship
telephonically on a regular basis and if required by visiting Internship site
during the period of Internship as per requirement with the permission
of the HoS.

j. The HoS will attach completion certificate of Internship along with copy
of the record in this regard with the remuneration Bill of PTVT
concerned to avoid any objection by the Audit team in future.

k. If the Internship is conducted after school hours in case of General &
Morning shift schools Or before school hours in case of Evening shift
schools, the PTVT/ VT will not be required to visit the Internship venue
however the PTVT/ VT will take feedback telephonically on regular
basis from the students.

I. It is to be noted that for payment of full remuneration to PTVTs,


fulfillment of the condition of workload of 32 Periods per week is
'mandatory as prescribed under the Cabinet Decision No. 1480 dated
08/10/2008 otherwise the remuneration is to be reduced
proportionately.

m. Internship needs to be closely monitored and evaluated by Vocational


Trainers/ PTVTs and Vocational Coordinators/ Vocational Nodal Officer
of concerned school with the support and under supervision of the
respective HoS.

n. In schools where PTVT are posted and other Skill subjects are running
without VTs, the PTVT will conduct Internship for all subjects running in
the schools along with their own subjects.

o. In case, students are not enrolled in the Skill Subject in class XI due to
unavoidable circumstances, the PTVT/ VT concerned will send a request
to Vocational Branch with the recommendation of the HoS. After
receiving the request of PTVT/VT, the Vocational Branch will allot
him/her a school for conducting the Internship during Autumn and
Winter Break and during the period after Annual Exam of class XI till 31'
March.

2. 'Light House' based Internship Monitoring System (Online Platform)

a. Vocational Branch has already deployed an online platform — 'Light


House based- Internship monitoring System' from the last academic year
to track the Internship, students and employer details of ongoing and
completed Internship. This Online monitoring system will help the school
and VTs to keep track of their Internship, further facilitate and maintain
quality Internship and generate and share student-wise Internship
reports after its completion.

b. Student WhatsApp Chat Bot link has also been made available for
student usage for Daily Diary & Internship feedback submission. VTs/
PTVTs have to monitor the ongoing Internship, ensure continued
interaction with students and Employers. They must also fill the detail
regularly through WhatsApp Chat-Bot link.

c. All the Students undergoing Internship are required to use the WhatsApp
Chat Bot link for Daily Diary & Internship feedback submission, wherever
students are not able to access the WhatsApp Chat bot link, they have to
use the annexures attached with the circular.

d. Online, Orientation & Capacity building program for VTs, VCs, PTVTs will
be organized by Vocational Branch in batches to orient them regarding
the process & operating procedure of Light House based - Internship
Monitoring System.

e. Attendance of all VCs is mandatory in the orientation program as they


will be further organizing Orientation and Capacity building programs for
their VTs to handhold them to use the Internship Monitoring System at
school level.

f. Program Management Unit (PMU) will support the Vocational Branch in


facilitating and monitoring of the overall implementation. The Officers/
officials of Vocational Branch and the PMU Members will also conduct
sample field visits and will make calls to verify the quality of the
internships and will record feedback from the students and the
employers.

g. Proper record of Internship of each student is to be maintained by the


PTVT/ VT concerned.

h. It is mandato,,r,y to,*dploac1q,O,-_,tagged photos of internship on


`Lighthouse Portal" atthe time, of visit by. PTVT/ VT. The photos uploaded
on,the postal should include:

VT/PTVT with Employer and Students in a single frame


• One photo with sign-board of employer
Photos mdst- include longitude and latitude of the place of
Internship

i. Only students registered, mapped with 'employers and students whose


internship progress report has been submitted on 'Light House based-
Internship Monitoring Portal' will be considered for allocation of fund to
schools under the Internship budget subject to availability of fund and
after approval of the Competent Authority. To streamline the process,
fund for Internship will be allocated to the schools for the students of
class XI only. Also, it is mandatory that students undergo 80-hours of
Internship in class XI to be considered for completion of Internship.

Directions to use 'Lighthouse' based Internship monitoring
system:
HoS:
■ To ensure that all concerned PTVTs/ VTs participate in Orientation &
Capacity building program to use the Lighthouse Internship
monitoring system (Online Platform)
■ To ensure all Students, Employer, Internship details and reports are
timely uploaded on the Lighthouse based - Internship monitoring
system (Online Platform)

PTVTs / VTs:
Pre-•Internship:
• Class registration- VT/PTVTs to add classes XI of their concerned
Trades/ Skill Subjects
• Student Registration- VT/PTVTs to register eligible students to
undergo Internship class wise
u• Employer Registration-VT/PTVTs to add trade-wise employer details
for Internship
Student Mapping with Employer- VT/PTVTs to map students with
relevant employers with whom they will undergo Internship.

During Internship:
• Monitoring Internship- VT/PTVTs to ensure that all students
undergoing Internship use Student WhatsApp Chat Bot link to upload
student daily diary and Internship feedback. It will help VT/PTVTs to
monitor Internships and for further handholding of students.
Post internship:
• Internship completion Report- VT/PTVTs have to submit all the
student specific Internship details after completion of the internship

VTPs / VCs:
• To organize orientation of all VTs on Lighthouse based - Internship
monitoring system (Online Platform) & ensure all VTs are using the
platform.
• To share the dates of the orientation of VTs with the Vocational
Branch

• To orient the HoS regarding the process & usage of Lighthouse based
- Internship monitoring system to be operated by VTs
• To regularly monitor & verify data of Internship submitted by VTs
• To handhold VTs & resolve issues, if any regarding the usage of the
Online platform for the Internship.

3. Role and Responsibilities of Head of School (HoS):

a. Overall responsibility of all eligible students to complete their Internship


lies with the HoS.

b. HoS should provide dedicated time to PTVTs/ VTs for Industry connect
and mark VT/PTVTs as 'On-Duty', when they go for Employer Survey &
Mapping and Internship facilitation.

c. HoS to endorse and sign appropriate documents to support and for


onboarding Employers/ Organizations/ Industry Partners. HoS should
ensure that an optimum number of employers are on board as per the
strength of students. The batch of students should be in such a way that
employers/ instructors can engage all the students and overcrowding
should not happen to ensure quality internship.

d. HoS to ensure and direct the PTVT/VT concerned to confirm that


adequate safety and security measures are in place at the venue(s) of
Internship.

e. HoS to ensure that students carry their ID cards while going for Internship
and are dressed in proper school uniform.

f. Remuneration of VTs/ PTVTs will be released for the actual number of


days of duty performed for conducting the Internship during Autumn/
Winter Break/ for the period after the final exam of class XI are over till
31st March, subject to satisfactorily performing the duties related to
Internship by the VT/ PTVT concerned and the HoS will ensure that record
for the same is maintained properly. The workload of VTs/ PTVTs during
Internship will be considered equivalent to prescribed workload for
payment of remuneration subject to satisfactorily performing the duties
related, to Internship and other assigned duties, if any. The HoS will
attach a certificate along with a copy of the record in this regard with

the remuneration Bill of PTVT concerned to avoid any objection by the
Audit team in future.

g. It is to be noted that for payment of full remuneration to PTVTs,

08/10/2008 otherwise the remuneration is to be reduced
proportionately.

h. HoS must inform the parents of the students undergoing Internship to


ensure that adequate measures have been taken to ensure the safety and
security of students while commuting. If required, parent/ elder sibling
may accompany the students to and fro for the Internship.

i. HoS to monitor the status and progress of Internship by interacting


periodically with students, PTVTs/ VTs, VC and Employers/ Organizations/
Industry Partners and monitor the students' attendance sheet and daily
work register during visits.

j. HoS to ensure that students receive certificates from internship providers


or from the school.

k. It is clarified that as Internship is required to be completed only once at


Senior; Secondary level; so, the HoS must ensure that amount of
Internship is disbursed to a student only once - in class XI, to streamline
the same.

I. The HoS of School where PTVT/ VT has been deputed from some other
school_ for conducting Internship must ensure to keep proper record of
attendance of PTVT/VT and to forward the same to the HoS of parent
school for payment of the remuneration.

m. In case of non-availability of VT of any Skill subject in the school, the


PTVT(s) posted in the school will conduct the Internship of that Skill
subject also, except in case of those Skill/ NSQF Subjects which are
under Samagra Shiksha and VT is posted for teaching the Skill Subject.

4. Role arid Responsibilities of Vocational Training Providers/ Vocational


Trainers and Vocational Coordinators/ Part Time Vocational Teachers:

i. It is the responsibility of the Vocational Training Provider (VTP) & PTVTs/


VTs to, organize and monitor Internship for the students studying Skill
Subjects in Class XI.

ii. VTs/ PTVTs and Vocational Coordinator (VC) are responsible for
searching, and onboard Organization/ Industry for Internship. They
should brief Employers / Organizations/ Industry Partners on guidelines
of the Internship, expected learning outcomes, documentation and
monitoring requirements. They should ensure that students' safety &
security guidelines are followed by the Employer / Organizations/
Industry Partners.

iii. PTVTs/ VTs and VC should ensure that 'Letter of Confirmation for
Internship (Annexure-1) is duly signed by the Employer/ Organization/
Industry Partner and HoS, before the commencement of Internship and
all records are maintained in order and kept at school.
iv. An nexure 2 & 3, Student/ Parent consent form & Attendance sheet are
to be duly documented and maintained by student & VT/PTVTs

v. PTVTs/ VTs and VC along with HoS are responsible to orient students and
their parents / local guardians about the Internship programme, its
importance and overall requirements. It should be ensured that the
'Consent Form for Internship' (Annexure-2) is duly filled and signed by
the student and parent / local guardian, before the commencement of
Internship.

vi. The PTVTs/ VTs and VC should create a WhatsApp group of Parents to
share ongoing activities and pictures of Internship with them.

vii. PTVTs/, VTs sffould brief; studeMs .7on' overall guidelines of Internship,
expected leatntrig outcome's and safety-and security norms. They should
communicate to students about the documents that need to be
maintained, namely 'Student Attendance Sheet for Internship'
(Annexure-3), 'Student Daily Diary' (Annexure-4) and 'Internship Report'
(Annexure-5). All records, are to be maintained in order and kept in the
school:

viii. The PTVTs/ VTs have to prepare students for the Internship activities
which he/she is going to perform during Internship according to the
mapped employer.

ix. The PTVTs/ VTs and VC along with HoS should monitor students on a
regular basis to ensure their safety, security, comfort and learning.

x. PTVTs/ VTs have to ensure that students upload their daily learnings,
feedback in WhatsApp Chat Bot and prepare 'Internship Report' in the
prescribed format after the cornpletion of Internship.

xi. The PTV-1-s/ VTs and VC should collect Internship related data and report
it to the Vocational Branch before starting the Internship and after the
completion of Internship.

xii. The PTVTs/ VTs and VC to coordinate & ensure the issuance of Internship
completion certificate from Employer to the students and seek feedback
from Employer/ Industry after the completion of Internship.

xiii. The VTs who are being deputed to conduct the internship to other school
have to adhere to the directions and no request for any change will be
entertained by the branch.

6. Major Quality Parameters need to be kept in mind while planning &


facilitating Internship:

a) 80 hours of internship is to be completed by each student preferably in
class XI and minimum 4 -6 hours of a working day should be spent at the
Internship workplace. The students should be engaged for internship in
industrial/ commercial organizations and not at Training Institutes.

b) Students to be engaged in hands on activities and optimum practical


experience to be ensured during Internship by VT/ PTVT

c) More employers should be onboarded as per the number of interested


students for Internship and they should be clubbed in batches to
undergo Internship and the internship of all interested students should
be completed in the scheduled time.
d) Continuous monitoring, handholding and support to be provided to
students undergoing Internship by VT/PTVT
e) Continuous interaction with Employers engaged in Internship to
understand their concerns by VT/PTVT/VCs to facilitate quality

Internships.
f) All necessary safety measures to be taken care of by the students and
by the employers during Internship.
g) Regular sharing of Internship updates by VT/PTVT and VCs to the HoS
and Parents.
h) Regular updating'of Light House based - Internship online platform by
VT/PTVT and monitoring by HoS and VCs.

1. To engage the students in their trade-specific work and provide required


guidance or support to ensure their learning and growth.

2. To monitor attendance and work completed by students on a daily basis. To
provide experience letter/certificate of internship to students at the end of the
internship training.

3. To abide by Prevention of Sexual Harassment Act (POSH) for students


undergoing internship. As per the Prevention of Sexual Harassment Act
(POSH), 'sexual harassment' includes unwelcome sexually tinted behaviour,
whether directly or by implication, such as- (i) physical contact and/ or
advances, (ii) demand or request for sexual favours, (iii) making sexually
coloured remarks, (iv) showing pornography, or (v) any other unwelcome
physical, verbal or non-verbal conduct of a sexual nature. Where any of these
acts are committed in circumstances under which the victim of such conduct
has a reasonable apprehension that in relation to the victim's employment or
work (whether he/she is drawing salary or honorarium or voluntary service,
whether in government, public or private enterprise), such conduct can be
humiliating and may constitute a health and safety problem, it amounts to
sexual harassment in the workplace. It is the duty of the employer to provide
safe environment and take sexual harassment as serious misconducts and
liable to punishments.

Guidelines for Internship Report preparation:


• Students are required to prepare an Internship Report after completion of
internship of 80 hours
• The objective is to capture overall internship experience and learnings. The
report can be added to overall student portfolio and also used for placements
in future
• Reports can be prepared in English or Hindi, It is recommended to include
photos/ videos of internship work in the final report.
• Students can use any creative format to present their learnings in the report
(Project files, PowerPoint, Word document, Photos/ Videos, Hand-written, etc.)
• Students may inter alia include the following information in the Internship
