Di/dt limiting choke:
FSCD (Fast Short Circuit Detection) board is connected in parallel to
each DC choke. They are used to detect a short circuit (magnetic field
is valid above a certain time) and IGCT malfunction (magnetic field
doesn’t change even if the IGCTs are firing).
In Low Power INU VLSCD (Voltage Level Short Circuit Detection)
boards are used instead of FSCD boards.

The main components of the phase module are:
4 IGCTs (Integrated Gate Commutated Thyristor)
4 freewheeling diodes parallel to IGCTs, integrated (LP) or discrete
(HP)
2 neutral point diodes divide DC voltage equally across IGCTs and
protect the components when the IGCTs of the other leg are turned off.
Neutral point diodes are also an important part of 3-level topology.
2 clamping diodes
2 clamping capacitors (clamping resistors are mounted separately,
outside of the phase module)
7, 9, 11 MVA: 1 balancing resistor (3 and 5 MVA: balancing resistor is
mounted separately, outside of the phase module)

INU INT board

ACS 6000 Training
INTerface board description:
Interface board is used as IGCT pulse controller. INT controls firing
pattern for standard 12 inverter IGCTs. One INT board controls the
firing of one power stage (12 IGCTs).
INT board is an interface between AMC board and all other printed
circuit boards.
INT board includes fast HW protections like overcurrent or
overvoltage detection (from CVMI) or IGCT fault detection (from GUSP
or FSCD).
In case of a serious fault which could damage the ACS 6000, INT trips
immediately the MCB among the other protection functions.
In addition to standard connections 1st INU has a fiber optic interface
with DIU/VLU/RBU/BCU (firing signals to IGCTs & feedback from
VLSCD boards), with EAF board for diode supervision in LSU if diode
rectifier is used and one additional output to trip the MCB directly.
3 MVA & 5 MVA INU is using VLSCD boards instead of FSCD boards.

Overcurrent detection
Overvoltage detection (projects after 2006)
INT EPLD versions supporting DC overvoltage protection:
ARU: LNEE4100 or newer; INU: LXEE3200 or newer
3 PPCS links (2 used in ACS 6000)
8 Mbit/s transfer rate
Earth fault monitoring function (EAF)
High voltage insulation
Earth fault monitoring:
Supervises the voltage between the DC neutral point and safety ground (PE) in order
to detect earth fault. Measurement is transmitted by an optical link (PPCS) to upper
control for supervision.
Overvoltage detection (A4):
The overvoltage detection compares the values of DC+ and DC- with predefined
threshold values. The state of the overvoltage detection is transmitted by optical
output A4; light means no overvoltage detected.
Overcurrent detection (A6):
The overcurrent detection compares the analog values of current inputs with
predefined threshold values. The state of the overcurrent detection is transmitted by
optical output A6; light means no overcurrent detected.

Current and voltage scaling subprints:
The main board of the CVMI is the same for all power ratings and is
also used in other MV drives but depending on the nominal values of
voltage and current different subprints are used.
The function of the SVA subprint is to adjust the voltage levels of the
analog voltage inputs. In addition the overvoltage detection is
performed by the SVA. The overvoltage detection compares the analog
values of voltage input with predefined threshold values. The state of
the overvoltage detection is signaled by optical output A4; light means
no overvoltage detected.
The function of the SCA subprint is to adjust the current levels of the
analog current inputs. In addition the threshold values for the
overcurrent detection are generated by the SCA.

FSCD description:
Fast Short Circuit Detection board is a pure analog device which
performs short circuit detection by measuring the magnetic field of the
DC chokes (Ls1, Ls2).
Each time one of the IGCTs of the upper side is turned on there is a
field on the Ls1 choke during the commutation time and each time
one of the IGCTs of the lower side is turned on there is a field on the
Ls2 choke during the commutation time.
If this field remains more than a certain allowable time (6 – 10 s), a
short circuit has occured. For redundancy, the supervision is made
by two different INTterface boards.
Optical output signal lights more or less at the same frequency than the
switching frequency of the IGCT switching.
FSCD is connected to medium voltage !

GUSP main board:
220 VAC/27 VDC AC/DC converters are used to feed each GUSP in
each INU/ARU (some auxiliary power supply concepts use DC/DC
converters).
The common main board includes one transformer for galvanic isolation
between main power supply and the sub-boards.
The correct functioning of the main board is indicated by a fiber optic
signal (no light = fault). The functioning of the individual sub-boards is
not monitored by the main board!

When voltage regulator is integrated in IGCT, “smaller” type sub-board
is used.
“Bigger” sub-board type includes DC output voltage regulator also. Two
LEDs show the status of voltage regulator.

output voltage overload/short circuit at output: output
< 10 V voltage < 17 V.
Regulating board repeatedly attempts to
connect.
