Tutorial No: 01 Semester I, 2023

Submit answer sheets on or before 15/11/2023

1. An oil company has introduced a new brand of gasoline in its outlets in three major metro
cities Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata. However, they are not sure how the new brand is
selling at three places since there is a lot of difference in the driving habits of people in
three metros. The company selected 10 outlets in each city and tabulated data on an
average daily sale at each of the selected outlets.

Delhi Mumbai Kolkata

15.00 8.00 14.60
13.50 8.25 16.50
14.20 6.40 13.20
13.00 7.20 13.60
15.00 4.40 21.00
11.00 11.30 11.70
12.50 7.80 12.30
16.00 8.10 17.00
14.25 9.00 14.75
13.50 6.80 18.00

Create the ANOVA table and check whether the average daily sale of three cities are equal
or not at 0.05 significance level.

2. An engineer is interested in determining if the RF power setting affects the etch rate,
and she runs a completely randomized experiment with four levels of the power and five
replicates. Data are given below. Construct one-way ANOVA table stating hypothesis,
model clearly. What is the conclusion from the hypothesis test? Use α = 0.05.

RF Power
160 180 200 220
575 565 600 725
542 593 651 700
530 590 610 715
539 579 637 685
570 610 629 710
3. A manufacturer of television sets is interested in the effect of tube conductivity of four
different types of coating for color picture tubes. An experiment is conducted and the
following conductivity data are obtained:

Coating Type
1 2 3 4
143 152 150 146
141 149 137 143
150 136 132 127
146 127 132 129

(a) Write down a suitable model for the conductivity in terms of the coating type. Clearly
define the terms of the model.
(b) State the assumptions that apply to the model you have selected in part (a).
(c) Specify the null and alternative hypothesis that are to be tested in the study.
(d) Is there a difference in mean conductivity due to coating type? Use α = 0.05.
(e) Test all pairs of means using Fisher LSD method with α = 0.05.

Submit the answers for the following questions in the practical class

4. Write down a R program to find the solutions for Question 1 and 2.
