A. Data Input:

Soil Bearing Capacity Po 150

Angle of repose of backing material φ degree 32
" φ radian 0.56
Co-efficient friction (Betn wall & Soil) μ 0.5
Unit wieght of soil ɣsoil 18
Unit wieght of Masonry ɣm 22
Top width of Retaning Wall a 0.6
Base width of Retaining Wall b 1.2
Total Height of Retaning wall (H=h1+h2) H 2.3
Surcharge Load (flood water wight) q 6.3000
Super-imposed load due to rcc slab and traffic load on
the slab (Q=q+DL of slab) Q 12.1125

B. Design Calculation:
1) Safety Factor Against Sliding (SFS)= ( μ*Weight of Wall)/(Active Pressure of Soil)

ie, SFS = μ*Ww/Pa

Where,
Weight of wall (Ww) = (a+b)/2*h* ɣm =
Weight of Traffic (Q)
Surcharge load (P1)= q*h*(1-sinφ)/(1+sinφ)=
Soil active pressure (P2)= (ɣsoil*h2)/2*(1-sinφ)/(1+sinφ)=
Total Active Pressure (P=P1+P2) = (ɣsoil*h2)/2*(1-sinφ)/(1+sinφ)+w*h*(1-sinφ)/(1+sinφ) =

SFS = 1.51 > 1.5

2) Safety Factor Against Overturning (SFO)= (Moment of Resistance/Moment of Overturning)

ie (SFO) = MR/Mo
Where,

Moment of Resistance (MR) = Ww*(b-X1)

x1= (a2+ab+b2)/3(a+b)
x1= 0.47 m
MR = 33.40 KNm

Moment of Overturning (Mo) = P*h/3

Mo = 14.63 KNm

SFO = 2.28 >1.55

3) Check for Max Pressure under the masonry wall:

Fmax=Ww/b(1+6e/b) = Presuure at Toe

Fmin=Ww/b(1-6e/b) = Presuure at Heel

Where,
Ecccentricity (e) = x1+x2-b/2
x1= (a2+ab+b2)/3(a+b)= 0.47
x2= (Pa*h)/3*Ww 0.32
(e) = e=x1+x2-b/2 0.188

So, Fmax=Ww/b(1+6e/b) ie at Toe 93.18 KN/m2 < Soil BC

& Fmax=Ww/b(1-6e/b) ie at Heel 2.91 KN/m2 < Soil BC

Note:
x1+x2= (Taking moment of all forces above point toe and dividing by the total vertical forces ie x meter)

eccentricity (e)= x-b/2

The pressure on the toe and heel is given by:

(Wt of wall/base width of wall) x(1+6e/base width of wall) = pressure at toe < given soil bearing presuure, OK
(Wt of wall/base width of wall) x(1-6e/base width of wall) = pressure at heel < given soil bearing presuure, OK
