Statement of Purpose (SOP)

I, Sidhant Sharma, am a resident of Amritsar. I was born on 6 th January, 2000 and my

passport number is S1763554. I completed my matriculation (10th) from Police D.A.V
Public School, Lawrence Road, Amritsar under the affiliation of CBSE board with 9.4
CGPA. As a Senior Secondary student, I dedicated myself towards ‘Science’ stream from
D.A.V School, Hathi Gate, Amritsar and scored 51% marks, it was completed in 2018.
Later, I took admission in ‘Bachelor of Computer Applications’ in Guru Nanak Dev
University and scored 68% marks, by completing it in 2021. Recently, I am holding a
degree of my bachelors and I am attaching the same.

 Intentions and Hopes:

Nowadays, Artificial intelligence and Data Science are the key enablers for disruptive
innovations of this century, with automation and machine learning picking up the pace
and more research and development in this sector; it is quickly becoming the answer to
many business problems. AI and data science is increasingly important to businesses and
organizations as it empowers them by making data-backed decisions with the help of
valuable insights and advanced analytics while On the other hand, AI can help with the
implementation and automated analytical processes to assist businesses in making
these data-centric decisions from generated or procured data. Over the next five years,
new kinds of technology, such as big data, automated machine learning, AR/VR systems,
robots and self-driving vehicles, will become the key to emerging technologies and will
open up a plethora of opportunities. In Bachelor of Computer Applications, I studied the
subjects i.e. Introduction to Python Programming, Database Management System,
Applied and Discrete Mathematics, Numerical Methods & Statistical Techniques, Data
Structures and File Processing, Information Systems etc. Furthermore, Data science,
along with AI, helps with advanced business analytics that contributes to its core needs
and requirements. Data science helps businesses from every field, and AI is capable
enough now to handle almost any kind of work from any industry. I want to discover the
latest developments as well as the specialized skills to contribute to the research, design
and development of next generation cutting-edge technologies in the area of Artificial
Intelligence and Data Science. Now I am looking for an opportunity to establish my
personal development and career progression by enrolling with a reputable college to
study this course. I am applying to a course namely ‘Artificial Intelligence and Data
Science’ from Loyalist College, Canada.

 Language Abilities:
To be eligible for overseas studies, I underwent for IELTS academic test and had overall
band score 8 with 8.5 in Listening, 9 in Reading, 6.5 in Writing and 7 in Speaking.

 Financial Abilities:
I belong to well-stable family and my parents are sponsoring me for my overseas
studies. They are fully aware and comfortable with all my expenses required to study in
Canada, including fee and living expense and they have already paid my tuition fee of
$16100 and GIC payment of $10,200.

My father Hargulal Sharma is an Astrologer and his gross income is INR – 4,80,200
approx, and my mother Rukmani Sharma owns a small beauty boutique and her gross
income is INR – 4,79,900 approx.

 Why Canada for further studies?

Canada is a better option for higher studies. The primary reason for opting Canada as an
education destination , as it would sought to be very helpful in my future, as Canada has
got global recognition due to impressive international reputation of the Canadian
education system, which is regulated by government in order to maintain high
standards of education. The most appealing aspect of Canada is the quality of scientific
research, as it is the foremost of new technology and innovations.

Further, Canada got listed by me, as it has world-class education providers offering
credentials recognized by international institutions and employers, it's a great place to
begin my career pathway and make great connections, with friendly and helpful services
available for international students, also it has portability of qualification, multicultural
society with scenic and healthy environment and has attractive culture and outdoor
lifestyle. Canada outshined many other countries as its cost of living was less than
United States and United Kingdom, this program will cost me around 16k CAD per year
which is within the limits of a Common man in India like my father. A similar program in
the UK costs around 20k GBP per year and in the USA would cost around 25k USD per
year which is more than double of what I will be paying right now. Plus, part time work
is allowed, while I would study, allowing me to offset my living costs. Moreover, there is
also possibility of scholarships and international students could also gain work
experience in their field of interest while they study.

 Why Loyalist College?

While researching for colleges in Canada, I came across various websites and reviews of
international students. But my research and daunting efforts came to an end after I got
to know about Loyalist College, which was established in 1967, showing a long time of
experience in field of education. My checklist included opportunities and a place where I
can learn two of the most fascinating subjects I always wanted to study, which was the
most significant requirement by me, which Loyalist College met, as it is a global
university recognized for research and innovation. Moreover, Durham College was more
affordable than other universities. It is a publicly funded post-secondary institution and
it provides career-oriented, relevant programs, an outstanding faculty and staff, state-
of-the-art facilities and a full range of services to support student success.

labs. Thus I concluded that Loyalist College is the best for me as the program offered by
Loyalist aligns the best with my future goals of working in the field of data science and
using the knowledge of AI along with it.

 About the course – Artificial Intelligence and Data Science:

The course Artificial Intelligence and Data Science is a two year post- graduate program.
It will assist me in developing the specific abilities required for success in the rapidly
growing industry of data science combined with artificial intelligence.

Following are the skills that I will develop through this course are:

 I will learn how to apply standardized approaches and methodologies, to find

insights in a large amount of data.
 Mathematics, statistical modeling and interface.
 Data visualization and data warehousing.
 Machine learning, python programming language
 Computer vision and business intelligence.

The main advantage of pursuing this course is that I will be equipped with the
knowledge to write certification exams with Microsoft (Power BI), Tableau and IBM
Watson Analytics. In addition to this, I will also get first-hand experience during a co-op
work term in last semester as Co-op work terms are valuable work integrated learning
experiences in which I will demonstrate outcomes. All in all, I will get established on a
deeper as well as surface level. To be in this field, the proper education is required.
That’s why I chose this course from the intended College to get proper knowledge how
to work with people to handle everyday situations.

in the world. Analysis predicts that the country will have more than 11 million job
openings in this sector by 2026. In fact, since 2019, hiring in the data science industry
has increased by 46%. I am sure my international experience in technical sector will put
me in a very good spot in India. As an international post-graduation diploma will help
me to stand out the heard and will open a number of opportunities for me to work with
some of the leading tech companies in India such as Wipro Technologies Ltd., Tata
Consultancy Services Limited, Wipro, Dimension Data, HCL Technologies Ltd. and so
on. As a beginner, I will be aiming to work as a ‘Data Scientist.’ According to the current

Along with that, we are a close-knit family. As I am the youngest in my family I share a
