Humanity's eagerness to explore and educate has been a distinct characteristic that differentiates
it from other earth beings and has shaped its journey throughout history. It is only through
continuous learning and research that the human race has made such advancements in multiple
domains of life and the process of growth and innovation continues. Every individual who
understands the human evolutionary process knows that only through striving hard and
capitalizing on one's abilities, a person contribute to the betterment of himself, society, and the
world at large. In this letter of application, I would like to shed some light on why pursuing higher
education at Ruhr University Bochum has been my aim and why I want to pursue my master's in
“Sustainable Energy Systems and Clean Energy Processes” at this particular institute.
My name is Zain ul Islam and I procured my BSc mechanical Engineering Degree From Mirpur
University of Sciences and Technology(MUST) which is a well-known and reputed engineering
institute in my country Pakistan. The reason for me to choose this engineering field was my
eagerness and willingness to learn how complex machines work. During my course of study at
MUST, I came to know that my decision was well suited to my intrinsic motivations. At the
institute, I involved myself in renowned engineering societies such as ASHRAE MUST which
groomed my personality, and professional as well as social skills. Along with that, I was an active
participant in multiple other student societies like MUST Debating Society which helped me
improve my communication and debating skills. Moreover, due to my better management and
technical skills, I was appointed as an event coordinator for the MUST National Olympiad.
Altogether it was quite a rewarding experience of studying mechanical engineering at MUST as it
not only made me academically sound but also inculcated multiple social and leadership qualities
in me. After earning my degree in mechanical engineering, I started working at a renewable
energy enterprise, Green Energy Management Services(GEMS), where I have been involved in
diverse projects, including solar water heating systems and solar energy storage systems, focusing
on clean, renewable, and sustainable energy. Furthermore, I designed solar energy systems and
conducted feasibility studies for solar energy generation potential. I have also built a solid
foundation in thermodynamics and heat transport via my academic and research activities.
Coming towards my choice of pursuing masters in “Sustainable Energy Systems and Clean Energy
Processes” at your institute, I would say that I have various reasons to opt for this program. Firstly,
the current climate change crises in the world have greatly pushed me to think about how
humanity could avoid such existential threats and what precautionary measures could be
adopted to prevent recurring climate disasters such as floods, glacial melting, bushfires, and
droughts. I have concluded that the only solution to these man-made problems is to change
current human practices of using fossil fuels which are the primary cause of this environmental
degradation making the only planet where life is possible unliveable. Being a person who has an
interest in contributing to human welfare, I decided that I would pursue my career in a degree
that would help me deal with the future problems that mankind is facing. Also in my final year
project titled"Analysis and Optimization of a small scale wind turbine for renewable power
generation", I did some deep research and concluded that this project could be implemented on
a mega scale for the production of clean energy. Moreover, meeting the energy demands of an
ever-increasing population has been a hot topic and I have read multiple articles and publications
on it which has further enhanced my interest in this domain. Another reason for choosing this
program is that as a career-oriented mechanical engineer, I believe this master's degree would
help me secure better job opportunities in a competitive job market. Therefore, by completing
this course, I would be able to work for the betterment of human society and also I would have
better job prospects.
In the end, I would share my thoughts on preferring to choose Ruhr University Bochum by
mentioning that my deep research on selecting the best institute for studying this particular
course has landed me on the RUB’s website. The said program is special as it takes into account
not only the technical but also the socio-economic factors like ethics, sustainability, and the
energy markets which have been my prime interest in this field. Moreover, the institute offers a
stimulating and challenging environment which would be beneficial for my personal and
professional grooming. Also, the new and practical courses designed has bolstered my interest in
your institute.This course will provide me to gain experience in best practices in the field of clean
energy and effective utilization of renewable resources. It can help me to develop innovative
solutions to complex engineering problems.Furthermore, I will have the chance to build a more
comprehensive awareness of the difficulties encountered by developing nations like Pakistan by
studying in a diverse and welcoming academic environment like yours. While opportunities in this
field are limited in my home country, I am eager to contribute to multinational companies in entry
and mid-level positions to enhance my practical knowledge and gain experience.
As a diligent and industrious person, I assure you that I would strive to make a meaningful
contribution to the program. Also, I would capitalize on my interpersonal and cooperation skills
while working with my professors and class fellows to create a vibrant learning environment. I
know that the program is quite demanding and I want to take on these challenges head-on to
