Installation

There are 4 popular ways of having Ubuntu
on your computer

Use LiveCD mode: run OS in CD directly, without
installation. This method is the most simple and safe way
to have Ubuntu on your computer.

Install inside Windows: the most popular and the easiest
install method for beginer.

Install in a virtual machine: the safe way of having a full
installation of Ubuntu without changing your system

Install in to your computer directly: require knowledge
about partitioning your hard drives
Installation

Install inside Windows:

Boot your computer with any Windows version

Insert Ubuntu install disk into CD/DVD drive (or
use a virtual CD/DVD drive instead)

Let your CD autorun, or run file wubi.exe in CD

Click 'Install inside Windows' button

Follow the onscreen instructions to install

After your computer restart, choose Ubuntu in
boot menu and wait for the setup does the rest

Waiting for the setup finish it's work

Restart your computer, the GRUB boot menu will
appear, choose first line for boot into Ubuntu,
choose last line for boot into Windows
Getting around the desktop

The menubar is found at the top left of your screen and
is where you go to start applications, find files and
customise settings. It is made up of three menus:

Applications - start applications and find new ones in
Software Center

Places - find files and folders on your computer

System - customise Ubuntu's settings and find help

The notification area is found in the top right hand corner of
your screen and displays the status of different applications.
You can use it to change the volume, change your online
status in different applications, and shut down your computer.

Import, manage & edit photos with F-Spot

Complete office suite Openoffice.org

Connecting to the internet

It's easy to manage your internet connection
with Network Manager

The Network Manager icon in the notification
area in the top right corner of your desktop
tells you the status of your network
connection and allows you to connect or
disconnect to Wired/Wireless networks.

Support IPv4 & IPv6 addresses
Adding applications

Ubuntu makes it easy to add new applications.

There is no need to download applications from
websites. Simply open the Software Center and
you have thousands of applications ready to
install at the click of a button from Ubuntu's
archive of applications.

Any applications installed in this way can be
easily and safely updated or removed.
