General Instructions:
i. This Question paper is divided into five sections-Section A, B, C, D and E.
ii. All questions are compulsory.
iii. Section-A: Question no. 1 to 5 are very short answer type questions of 2 marks
each. Answer to each question should not exceed 40 words.
iv. Section-B: Question no. 6 to 8 are short answer type questions, carrying 3 marks
each. Answer to each question should not exceed 80 words.
v. Section-C: Question no. 9 and 10 are long answer type questions, carrying 5 marks
each. Answer to each question should not exceed 120 words.
vi. Section-D: Question no. 11 and 12 are Case Based questions, carrying 4 marks
each.
vii. Section-E: Question no. 13 is map based, carrying 3 marks with two parts, 13.1
from History (1 mark) and 13.2 from Geography (2 marks).
viii. There is no overall choice in the question paper. However, an internal choice has
been provided in a few questions. Only one of the choices in such questions have to
be attempted. ix. In addition to this, separate instructions are given with each
section and question, wherever necessary.
SECTION – A (2X5=10)
Very short answer
1. Read the following information and write the technical term being referred to in a
phrase/sentence (2)
(a) Rita has taken loan of 7 lakh from the bank to purchase a car. The annual interest rate on
the loan is 14.5% and the loan is to be repaid in 3 years in monthly instalments. The bank
retained the papers of the new car as collateral, which will be returned to Rita only when she
repays the entire loan with interest.
(b) Ram purchased goods worth Rupees 2000 from Shyam. Ram makes the payment in cash
but Shyam refuses to take the payment. Shyam cannot refuse to accept the payment in cash
2. A political party is a group of people who come together to contest elections and hold power
in the government. A party has three components- Leader, Active Members and Followers.So,
in this context can a party form government without followers in a democratic government?

3. What were the major demands of the peasants who participated in the Non-cooperation
Khilafat Movement? Mention any two demands.

6. Party system is not something any country can choose. It evolves over a long time,
depending on the nature of society, it’s social and regional divisions, its history of politics and
it’s system of elections. These cannot be changed very quickly. Do you agree? Justify with
example.

8. “Reinterpretation of History created a feeling of nationalism”. Justify the statement in
reference to India’s freedom movement.
SECTION – C
Long answer type questions (5X2=10)
9. People believe that democracy is best against other alternatives. So, how do we assess
democracy’s outcomes? (5)
10. Developed countries have been trying to pursue developing countries to liberalize the trade
and allow more flexibility in business policies to provide equal opportunities to multinational
firms in their domestic market. International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank helped
them in this endeavor. Liberalization began to hold its foot on barren lands of developing
countries like India by means of reduction in excise duties on electronic goods in a fixed time
frame.
Indian government did the same and liberalized the trade and investment due to the pressure
from World Trade Organization. Import duties were cut down phase-wise to allow MNC’s
operate in India on equality basis. As a result, globalization has brought to India new
technologies, new products and also the economic opportunities.
(a) What was the impact of cutting down import duties on Indian producers? (2)
(b) Have developed countries also liberalized their trade like the developing nations? Why? (1)
(c) Differentiate between foreign trade and foreign investment (2)
SECTION – D
Case based questions (4X2=8)
11. The history of Indian Freedom Struggle would be incomplete without mentioning the
contributions of women. The sacrifice made by the women of India will occupy the foremost
place. They fought with true spirit and undaunted courage and faced various tortures,
exploitations and hardships to earn us freedom.

When most of the men freedom fighters were in prison the women came forward and took
charge of the struggle. The list of great women whose names have gone down in history for
their dedication and undying devotion to the service of India is a long one.
Woman's participation in India's freedom struggle began as early as in 1817 . Bhima Bai
Holkar fought bravely against the British colonel Malcolm and defeated him in Guerilla
warfare. Many women including Rani Channama of Kittur, Rani Begam Hazrat Mahal of
Avadh fought against British East India company in the 19th century; 30 years before the “First
War of Independence 1857”
The role played by women in the War of Independence (the Great Revolt) of 1857 was
creditable and invited the admiration even leaders of the Revolt. Rani of Ramgarh, Rani Jindan
Kaur, Rani Tace Bai, Baiza Bai, Chauhan Rani, Tapasvini Maharani daringly led their troops
into the battlefield.
Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi whose heroism and superb leadership laid an outstanding example
of real Patriotism . Indian women who joined the national movement belonged to educated and
liberal families, as well as those from the rural areas and from all walk of life, all castes,
religions and communities.
Sarojini Naidu, Kasturba Gandhi, Vijayalakshmi Pandit and Annie Bezant in the 20th century
are the names which are remembered even today for their singular contribution both in
battlefield and in political field.
a. Though large number of women have participated in freedom movement the congress
was reluctant to allow women to hold any position of authority within the organisation?

b. How did they participate in civil Disobedience movement? Explain. (2)
12. Read the given text and answer the following questions:
Today, the world has been converted into a large village with the help of efficient and fast-
moving transport. Transport has been able to achieve this with the help of equally developed
communication system. Therefore, transport, communication and trade are complementary to
each other.
Today, India is well-linked with the rest of the world despite its vast size, diversity and
linguistic and socio-cultural plurality. Railways, airways, water ways, newspapers, radio,
television, cinema and internet, etc. have been contributing to its socio-economic progress in
many ways.
The trades from local to international levels have added to the vitality of its economy. It has
enriched our life and added substantially to growing amenities and facilities for the comforts of
life. . It is thus, evident that a dense and efficient network of transport and communication is a
pre-requisite for local, national and global trade of today.
