Speech on “Women and Hijab”

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,

Respected elders, brothers, and sisters in Islam. Today, I am here to talk

about a subject that is very significant in the life of a Muslim woman: Hijab. It
is not merely a cloth or a covering, but a form of worship, a sign of obedience
to Allah, and a profound symbol of dignity and respect.

In Islam, hijab is not a choice but a commandment from Allah, meant to

protect and honor women. Allah says in the Holy Quran, in Surah An-Nur,
verse 31:

“And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their chastity,
and not to reveal their adornments except what normally appears. Let them
draw their veils over their chests…”

This verse is a reminder that the hijab is a means of preserving our purity
and modesty. It calls upon us to protect ourselves by following Allah’s
command, to reflect dignity, and to ensure that we are valued not for
appearance but for our character and piety.

In Surah Al-Ahzab, verse 59, Allah says,

“O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the
believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. That
is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused.”

Through these words, Allah has outlined that hijab is not only for our
modesty but also for our safety and respect in society. The hijab becomes a
shield, a way for women to command respect and protection while carrying
the dignity of Islam.

Let us also look at a hadees from our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be
upon him), where he said,

“Modesty is a branch of faith.”

This hadees reminds us that modesty is essential to our faith and character.
Hijab, as an expression of modesty, is part of that faith, and we wear it out of
love and submission to Allah’s commands.

For many women, wearing the hijab is challenging in today’s world, but as
believers, we understand that this is a test of our faith and our patience. By
embracing hijab, we declare that we seek to please Allah above all else.
Hijab is a sign of liberation, not oppression. It allows us to focus on our inner
self and reminds society to respect us for who we are as Muslims, rather than
how we look.

The hijab reflects not just a woman’s appearance but her identity as a
Muslim. Every day, a sister in hijab is sending a powerful message that she
chooses to follow Allah’s path, proudly displaying her connection to her
Creator.

The hijab Is not just a piece of cloth but a command from Allah, designed to
protect and honor women. It is a symbol of modesty, strength, and faith,
reminding us that true beauty lies in our character and obedience to Allah.
By wearing the hijab, we uphold our dignity and demonstrate our devotion to
Him, reflecting our commitment to His guidance in every aspect of our lives.

May Allah make us steadfast in our faith, bless us with the strength to fulfill
His commands with humility, and guide us on the path of righteousness and
modesty. Ameen.

Jazakum Allahu Khairan.
