Overview Of the Scheme

Name of Scheme Jammu and Kashmir Marriage Assistance Scheme.

Launched in 02 December 2015.

Benefits Rs. 50,000/- Assistance for Marriage.

Beneficiaries Unmarried Girls belonging to Poor Section of Society.

What is SMAS

A social welfare scheme by the Social Welfare Department of the Government of Jammu & Kashmir, for
Poor Girls of Marriageable Age who belong to either AAY (Antyodaya Anna Yojana) or PHH (Priority
Households) ration card holder families. Through this scheme, they shall be paid one-time financial
assistance @ ₹50,000/- (rupees fifty thousand only) for getting married. The financial assistance shall have to
be paid before her marriage. The financial assistance shall be directly transferred into the individual bank
accounts of the beneficiaries (marriageable girls) through DBT mode. The receipt of applications as well as
the transfer of assistance shall be in online mode only. The District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) shall
verify the details of the beneficiary regarding her marital status & age and shall submit the case before the
Deputy Commissioner along with all requisite documents and his/her recommendations. The Deputy
Commissioner shall sanction the financial assistance in favor of the beneficiary girl after determining the
eligibility, and reasonably satisfying himself/herself about the genuineness of the case. The scheme is
operational in all the districts across the Union Territory of Jammy and Kashmir.
Introduction
1. Jammu and Kashmir Marriage Assistance Scheme was launched on 02.12.2015 by Government Of
Jammu and Kashmir.
2. This scheme is implemented by Department of Social Welfare of Jammu and Kashmir Government.
3. The main objective behind launching Jammu and Kashmir Marriage Assistance Scheme is to abolish
the child marriage by providing support for the marriage to those families who are not able to conduct
it due to their poor financial condition.
4. This scheme is also called as "Jammu and Kashmir State Marriage Assistance Scheme for Poor Girls".
5. Government of Jammu and Kashmir now provide financial assistance to needy people to conduct the
marriage in their home without thinking about the expenses.
6. Financial Assistance of Rs. 50,000/- will be provided to all eligible girl beneficiaries for their marriage
under Jammu and Kashmir Marriage Assistance Scheme.
7. This is a DBT Scheme which means the amount of financial assistance will directly transferred in the
bank account of beneficiary.
8. Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) or Priority Household (PPH) Ration Card Holder Families are
eligible to apply for financial assistance for marriage under Jammu and Kashmir Marriage Assistance
Scheme.
9. Girl Beneficiary whose age is 18 years or more are eligible to apply.
10. It is mandatory for a Girl Beneficiary to pass minimum class 8th examination.
11. But in case a girl beneficiary is a school drop out then those girls are also eligible to apply for
marriage assistance from the year 2022 to 2024.
12. From 01-04-2025, passing class 8th is mandatory to avail the benefit of financial assistance for
marriage under Jammu and Kashmir Marriage Assistance Scheme.
13. Eligible Beneficiary can apply for Jammu and Kashmir Marriage Assistance Scheme by applying
through Online Application Form which is availble on Jansugam Portal.
Benefits
Benefits provided by Jammu and Kashmir Government under its Marriage Assistance Scheme
are as follows :-
Financial Assistance will be provided for Marriage of a Girl.
Rs. 50,000/- Financial Assistance will be provided for Marriage.
Eligibility
Government of Jammu and Kashmir sets the following eligibility conditions for beneficiaries in order to
provide them financial assistance for marriage under Marriage Assistance Scheme :-
Age of Girl Beneficiary should be 18 Years or More.
Beneficiary should have AAY (Antyodana Anna Yojana) or PPH (Priority Household) Ration Card.
Minimum Qualification of the Beneficiary Girl should be 8th Pass or Equivalent. (Mandatory from 2025)
Eligible Girl can apply for assistance at least one month before the date of marriage.
Documents Required
The below mentioned documents is needed at the time of applying for financial assistance for marriage under
Jammu and Kashmir Government's Marriage Assistance Scheme :-
1. Date of Birth Certificate.
2. AAY or PPH Ration Card.
3. Adhaar Card.
4. Education Qualification Certificate. (From 2025)
5. Marriage Invitation Card.
