Call for Participation in

A National Conference on
Embracing Blended Learning, Innovation, and Creativity in English Studies: Navigating
Challenges and Opportunities in Mauritanian Higher Education

Date: April 16-17th, 2025

Venue: Palais des Congrès
Mode: In-person

Dear Researchers, Faculty Members and Policymakers,

The teaching and learning of English studies in Mauritanian higher education institutions has long
been dominated by traditional methods and strategies. For decades, these approaches proved
effective, shaping generations of students and contributing to the development of the field.
However, the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the urgent need to
adapt to an evolving educational landscape. It is now imperative to embrace innovation,
creativity, and blended learning as essential elements in the teaching and learning of English
studies.
Education experts widely agree that blended learning and other innovative approaches represent
the future of education. As such, higher education institutions in Mauritania must critically
examine and integrate these advancements to enhance English studies while preserving the
valuable legacies of traditional methods. This is not a call to abandon long-standing practices but
rather an invitation to harmonize them with cutting-edge technologies, including Artificial
Intelligence (AI), to navigate and leverage change effectively.
This national conference seeks to explore the intersection of pedagogy, innovation, creativity,
and technology in the context of English studies in Mauritania. As global trends in teaching and
learning continue to evolve, aligning with these advancements presents both challenges and
opportunities for local institutions. The conference will provide a platform for researchers,
educators, and policymakers to engage in meaningful dialogues, share insights, and exchange the
best practices for fostering innovative teaching and learning strategies in a globalized world.
The Department of English at the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences (FLSH) is proud to
announce its inaugural national conference: Embracing Blended Learning, Innovation, and
Creativity in English Studies: Navigating Challenges and Opportunities in Mauritanian Higher
Education.

This conference offers a valuable opportunity for participants to address pressing issues, navigate
emerging challenges, and uncover opportunities presented by blended learning environments.
Researchers and faculty members will have the chance to present their work, showcase
innovative teaching strategies, and contribute to shaping the future of English studies in
Mauritania.
We look forward to welcoming you to this important event.
