SECTION A
Answer all questions from this part.
Item 1. Map skills
For this item the East Africa 1:50,000 (Uganda) Bulisa map extract
Bulisa is one of the area endowed with various tourist attractions like Murchison falls National
Park. The local authorities have received funds and would like to boast the tourism in the area by
renovating the existing social service and also to construct a new road in the area to ease
movement of the tourists to their tourist destinations. The local authorities would like to establish
the road from Kiraama at grid reference 270480. The environmentalists in the area have refused
the local authorities’ decision saying that it will destroy the existing natural environment and its
beauty in the area. The local authorities are now worried of the environmentalists’ decision and
also the physical features in their paths where they are likely to construct the planned road, as this
may limit the road construction processes. The government officials have organized a
sensitization message in the area and you’re invited to be part of it.
(a) Using a relevant illustration,
i. Guide the local authorities the physical features their engineers are likely to face
during the construction of new planned road in the area.
ii. Identify the social services in the area that will be renovated by local authorities.
(b) i) State the bearing and direction of the Murchison falls National Park from Kasenyi.
ii). Why are the local environmentalists refusing the decision of the local government.
(c) Write a sensitization message that you will deliver in that meeting to handle the above
situation

Item 2
Seeta Nazigo is a village in Mukono district where the community members mainly depend on
charcoal burning and firewood collection which have resulted into destruction of the existing
forests and degrading of the environment as well, which has resulted into decline in rainfall
formation and increase in temperatures. The local leaders on several occasions have called upon
the local people to conserve the environment. Unfortunately, the local people have continued with
their negative activities that destroy the environment.
The Village local government has organized a sensitization meeting to sensitize the local people
on how to conserve the environment and your tasked to part of it.

Kasiita and Joan have grown up at Kabowa in Kampala city ever since they were born.
Last year in the month of December Kasiita and Joan were taken to pay visit to their
grandparents in the western part of Uganda during their holidays. They were so surprised
to see magnificent landforms with beautiful sceneries on their way and in their
grandparent’s homeland. During their holidays some people on the neighborhood narrated
stories to Kasiita and Joan saying that the mountains and rift valley are so beneficial to
them like providing fertile soils for crop growing but they have also created several
challenges to them and they would like to migrate from the above area but have nowhere
to go.

Task:
a). Explain the reasons why the people would like to migrate from the above area.
b). Make a sensitization write up to help the people living in the above area.
Item 4
Kaliddubi is a town in a valley along Kampala Busabala Road blessed with streams and
swamps like Kaliddubi swamp. Unfortunately, due to the increasing population in the area,
people have started encroaching the swamps to obtain land for crop growing to earn a living
and also sustain their livelihood. The local leaders have on several occasions advised
people to conserve the existing swamps in their areas. Instead of responding positively to
the leader’s call they resorted to destroy the existing swamps. Recently the heavy
prolonged down pour received in the area resulted into destructive floods which destroyed
people’s homeland, farmlands and properties. Some people living in the area would like to
migrate from the above area but have nowhere to go. The local people and leaders have
organized a sensitization meeting to handle the above situation.
Task.
a). Explain the possible causes of the natural calamity in the above area.
b). Make a write-up message that you will deliver in the meeting to help the people living
in the area to handle the above situation.

PART III
Choose one question from the section.
Item 5.
Uganda population has been growing at a rapid rate. In 2015, Uganda’s population was
37531446 and in 2010 it was 44457152, 47312719 in 2022, 48656601 and it also expected
that Uganda’s population will be 85431200 in 2025. According to Uganda Bureau of
Statistics (UBOS), Rapid population growth comes with the opportunities and challenges
on the environment and therefore the government needs to come up with possible solutions
to control the Rapid population growth rate. A conference has been organized among the
government officials to come up with the lasting solutions to manage the above trend and
you’re expected to be part of it.

Item 6.
The outbreak of the Covid 19 that affected the world economies didn’t spare the East
African region and its partner states. It slowed down the most economic activities
especially the trading activities and investments. This resulted into decline of profits among
the business men and loss of government revenue. The government officials have
organized a conference where there planning to come up with solutions to manage and
improve the trading activities effectively with in East African region.
