"Pele: The Football/Soccer Hero Who Stole the World's
Heart"
Pele, whose real name is Edson Arantes do Nascimento, is a Brazilian
football player who is known as one of the greatest football players of all
time. Born in 1940 in the town of Três Corações, Brazil, Pele grew up very
poor and began playing soccer with his bare feet (‫)יחף‬, with a ball he made
by himself at home.
Pele's talent (‫ )כישרון‬was clear from a young age. The Santos Football Club
asked him to play for them when he was only 15 years old. He quickly
became known for being very fast, and for winning many points, earning
him the name "The King of Football." One of the most famous stories
about Pele is from the 1958 World Cup. At just 17 years old, Pele won the
games for Brazil. He became famous all over the world for being the
youngest player to ever win a World Cup. Over the years, Pele made over
1,000 goals and won three World Cups with the Brazilian national team.
Pele also had a big part in helping to make soccer popular in the United
States and around the world. In 1975, Pele signed with the New York
Cosmos, a team in the North American Soccer League, which put
American soccer on the map. One of Pele's most famous quotes is:
"Success (‫ )הצלחה‬is no accident. It is hard work. You need to learn, study,
and most of all, love what you are doing or learning to do." This quote
shows how hard Pele worked and how much he loved to play soccer.
Pele is known for more than just his work on the soccer field. He is also
known for his work helping people around the world. In 1993, Pele became
a United Nations (‫ )האו"ם‬ambassador (‫)שגריר‬. Even after he became very
famous, he never forgot where he came from. Here is a story that shows
how important it was to Pele to help others. Once while driving, he passed
a car on the side of the road that was broken down. Inside the car was a
family with several children. Pele did not just pass them by on the road.
Instead, he stopped his car and got out to help. Pele knew just what to do.
He got his hands dirty and soon got the family back on the road. They
were very excited because they knew exactly who he was, and because he
got them back in their car and back on their way! In conclusion, Pele was

"Dr. James Naismith: The Man Behind Basketball"
Dr. James Naismith, a Canadian sports teacher, is known around the world
as the person who made the first basketball. Born in 1861 in Ontario,
Canada, Naismith grew up with a love for sports. He later moved to the
United States, where he became a sports teacher at the International
YMCA School in Springfield, Massachusetts.
In 1891, Naismith had a problem. He needed to find an indoor game that
would keep his students in shape (‫ )בכושר‬during the cold winter months.
He remembered a game he played as a child called "Duck on a Rock, " a
game in which the players need to throw a large rock at another rock or a
tree stump. Naismith wanted to make a game like it, in which students
needed to aim and throw, and that his students could play inside the
school. Naismith's idea, and what later went on to become the game of
basketball started with a soccer ball and two fruit baskets (‫ )סלים‬as goals.
He made a set of 13 rules (‫ )כללים‬for the game. The first game of
basketball was played on December 21, 1891, with nine players on each
team.
One of the most famous stories about the early days of basketball is about
how Naismith made the first backboard (‫)לוח אחורי‬. In the early days of the
game, the baskets did not have a board behind them. Players would often
need to climb the walls to get the ball back. Naismith made a wooden
backboard to go behind the baskets, which not only made the game safer
but also made the game more fun to play. Even though people enjoyed
basketball, some people said the game was too hard to play. However,
Naismith believed in the game and did not stop playing it with his
students.
Over time, Naismith's game became very popular, and became the game
of basketball that we all know and love today. Naismith taught and played
basketball all his life. He became a basketball coach and helped to bring
about the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 1946. One of Naismith's
most famous quotes is: "Basketball really had its origin (started) in
Indiana, which remains (still is) the center of the sport." This quote shows
that Naismith knew how important basketball was to The State of Indiana
and to people who love sports all over the world. In conclusion, Dr. James

in the world, basketball is still a much-loved sport.
