ASAMYUKTA MUDRAS

SINGLE HAND
GESTURES
PATAKA
All fingers held straight, there should be no gap between
the fingers.
Used to express opening/closing a door, beginning of a
dance, saying 'no', taking an oath, cutting, horse, blessing,
slap, touching , entering a narrow road, taking rest and
Nature symbols: flowing water, clouds, forest, sunlight,
moonlight, rain, wind,

TRIPATAKA
Beginning with pataka, the third finger is then bent into
the palm. The other fingers should be straight and upright.
Used to express crown, tree, lamp, applying a 'tiki', fire,
flames, turning around, thunderstorms, writting a letter,
weapon.

ARDHA PATAKA
Hand is rested with the palm facing outwards. The
first, second fingers are extended straight and the
third and little finger are bent into the palm.
Used to express riverbank, flag, knife, horn, tower,
writing on a board, leaves, saw, saying 'both'

KARTARI MUKH
The hand is raised with palm facing outwards,
thumb, first and little finger are extended straight
up, fourth fonger is bent into the palm
Used to express separation between a man and
woman, opposite directions, falling, death,
electricity, stealing, corner of eyes

ARDHA CHANDRA
IThe palm faces upward, all fingers are stretched
together and the thumb is positioned at right angles
to the rest of the fingers.
Used to express moon, 8th day of a dark fortnight, a
hand seizing the throat, a spear

ARAL
The palm is raised and faces outward, The second,
third and little fingers are stretched straight, the first
finger is is curved, and the thumb is positioned so it
almost touches the tip of the 1st finger.
Used to express drinking poison/nectar, show
peacock feathers, writing a letter, beautiful woman
