CH.14 PROBABILITY WORKSHEET
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I. Select response type questions(MCQ) :
1. Two dice are thrown together. The probability of getting a doublet is
(a) 1/6 (b) 1/12 (c) 1/2 (d) 1/3
2. A box contains cards numbered 36 to 91. A card is drawn at random from the box. The
probability that the drawn card has a number which is a perfect square is
(a) 3/ 55 (b) 1/14 (c) 4/55 (d) 3/56
3. A bag contains 5 red balls and n green balls. If the probability of drawing a green marble is
three times that of a red ball, then the value of n is
(a) 18 (b) 15 (c) 10 (d) 20
4. If P(𝐸) = 0.18 then P(𝐸) =
(a) 0.81 (b) 0. 18 (c) 0.82 (d) – 0.82
5. From the letters of the word “ PROBABILITY” a letter is selected. The probability that it is a
consonant is
(a) 7/11 (b) 4/11 (c) 3/5 (d) 3/11
6. In the lottery, there are 5 prizes and 20 blanks. The probability of getting a prize is
(a) 1/4 (b) 1/20 (c) 1/25 (d) 1/5
7. If three coins are tossed simultaneously, what is the probability of getting at most one tail?
(a) 3/8 (b) 4/8 (c) 5/8 (d) 7/8
8. A number is selected from the first 50 natural numbers. What is the probability that it is a
multiple of 2 and 5.
(a) 7/10 (b) 1/10 (c) 3/5 (d) 0
9. In a single throw of two dice, the probability of getting 12 as a product of two numbers
obtained is
(a) 1/9 (b) 2/9 (c) 4/9 (d) 5/9
II. Assertion- Reason based questions:
In the following questions, a statement of Assertion(A) is followed by a statement of Reason(R).
Choose the correct option out of the following:
(a) Both (A) and (R) are true and (R) is the correct explanation of (A)
(b) Both (A) and (R) are true but (R) is not the correct explanation of (A)
(c) (A) is true but (R) is false
(d) (A) is false but (R) is true

1. Assertion (A) : The probability of getting a prime number, when a die is thrown once, is ⅔.
Reason (R) : On the faces of a die, prime numbers are 2,3,5.

2. Assertion (A) :The probability that a leap year has 53 Mondays is 2/7
Reason (R) : The probability that a non-leap year has 53 Mondays is 1/7

3. Assertion (A) : If a box contains 5 white, 2 red and 4 black marbles, then the probability of not
drawing a white marble from the box is 5/11.
Reason (R) : P (E) = 1 – P(𝐸), where E is any event.

III. Competency focused questions:

1. A square dartboard has sections numbered from 1 to 12 as shown below.

Players have to make a prediction and throw a dart. They win if their dart
lands on the section that matches their prediction.
Arya says, "My dart will land on a composite number."
Bashir says, "My dart will land on an even number."
Cathy says, "My dart will land on a factor of 12."
Calculate the probability of each of their predictions occurring and
determine who has the highest chances of winning. Show your work.
2. Shown below is a game with 3 spinners attached to 3 rooms. Each player is given a
treasure which has to be kept in one of the rooms. All the spinners are rotated and if
any spinner lands on the grey region, that room is opened. If the player keeps his
treasure in that room, he loses the treasure. If he keeps it in any other room, he wins
the treasure.Zaria kept her treasure in the room which is least likely to be opened.
In which room did she keep her treasure? Show your work.

IV. Case study based questions:

1. Some students were asked to list their favourite colour. The measure of each colour is
shown by the central angle of a pie chart given below.
Study the pie chart and answer the following questions:
(i) If a student is chosen at random, then find the
probability of his/her favourite colour being white?
(ii) What is the probability of his/her favourite colour being
blue or green?
(iii) If 15 students liked the colour yellow, how many
students participated in the survey ?
(iv) What is the probability of the favourite colour being red
or blue?

2. Computer-based learning (CBL) refers to any teaching methodology that makes use of
computers for information transmission. At an elementary school level, computer
applications can be used to display multimedia lesson plans. A survey was done on 1000
elementary and secondary schools of Assam and they were classified by the number of
computers they had.

Number of 1-10 11-20 21-50 51-100 101 and more

computers

Number of 250 200 290 180 80

schools

One school is chosen at random. Then :

(i) Find the probability that the school chosen at random has more than 100 computers.
(ii)Find the probability that the school chosen at random has 50 or fewer computers.
(iii) Find the probability that the school chosen at random has no more than 20 computers.
(iv)Find the probability that the school chosen at random has 10 or less than 10 computers.

V. Constructed response questions (Short Answer/Long Answer type Questions):

1) From a well-shuffled deck of 52 playing cards, all diamond cards are removed. Now, a
card is drawn from the remaining pack at random. Find the probability that the selected
card is a king.
2) Two dice (one blue and one grey) are thrown at the same time. Write down all the
possible outcomes. What is the probability that the sum of the two numbers appearing
on the top of dice is : (a) 7 (b)13 (c) less than or equal to 12.
