Note: This tutorial gives a brief overview of the features of this software. A
more detailed description of the software is given in the manual. There may
be some differences between this tutorial and the demo software if the
software is a more recent version.

Pagoda will display a standard Open dialogue:

Click the Cancel button at the bottom right. This will create a small default hypar :

The scroll bar on the far right moves your view point up or down, the left scroll bar
rotates the hypar around the vertical axis. The bottom scroll bar tilts the hypar.

Animated View
You can view your hypar as a “3D wire frame” or as a “solid rendering”.
To switch between wire frame and solid use the square coloured button on the left of
the screen.

Make sure we are using solid rendering before continuing. If not, click the button
again. An easier way to change the point of view is with the Animate feature.

Select Animate from the View menu :

A square outline will appear on the screen. As soon as the mouse enters the square
the animate feature is activated. Do not click the mouse yet as this deactivates
animate. By moving the mouse side to side and up or down you can rotate the view.
Now move the mouse around until you have the view you like and click once to lock in
that position.

If you get disorientated click the small square at the bottom left of the
screen:
This will return you to the plan view.

Dimensions

Select Hypar from the Mould menu :

There are four dimensions that can be specified for each side or corner of the Hypar.
These dimensions can be selected by clicking on Length, Height, Hollow or Link.
The bold line represents the selected dimension.

Currently length should be selected.

Click the mouse in the centre of the Hypar. This will highlight the centre line.

Type 1200 and press the Enter key on the keyboard :

ProSail 2015 4
The bold line should have increased in length from the previous 1000mm to 1200mm.
To change the length of a side of the Hypar we need to first select that side.
Move the mouse so it is close to the top left side of the Hypar and then click the
mouse button to select that side.
Using the keyboard type 1300 and press the Enter key:

Move the mouse over the word Height and click the mouse button:

With Height selected, we can now change the height of any of the four corners of the
Hypar. (The height of the poles).
Move the mouse so it is near the right hand corner of the Hypar and click the mouse
button so the right corner is circled as in the picture below :
Currently the height is 0mm.
Using the keyboard type 100 and press Enter:

ProSail 2015 5
Link allows us to change the line lengths between each pole and hypar corner. Hence
increasing the Link length will reduce the size of the hypar.
Select Link then move the mouse near the left hand corner. Click to select as in the
picture below :
Type 200 and press enter.

Hollow allows us to specify the hollow on each side of the Hypar. Although we specify
it now we will not see the hollow until we have developed panels.
Select Hollow then move the mouse near the top left hand corner. Click to select:
Type 5 and press enter. This will give us 5% hollow on that top left side.

Selecting (x,y) will give you the X and Y coordinates for the selected corner (in plan view) so you can use the
(x,y) button instead of length to determine the shape of the Hypar. For the purposes of this tutorial we will
not make changes using (x,y).

To accept the changes we have made to the dimensions and return to the main win-
dow, click OK.

Panels

Now that we have designed our Hypar, the next step is to tell the program to generate
the panels.

Select New from the Panel menu:

This will display the turnover dialogue where you can specify the extra seam you
want around the perimeter of the Hypar.

Click OK. This will display the seam allowance and fabric width checking dialogue :

Click OK.

ProSail 2015 7
This dialogue displays the top half of the Hypar. Currently there are no seam lines
shown. To create seam lines we need to add them.

Click the Add button.

Then click the Add button again to add the 2nd seam.

Note: the positioning of the seams can be expressed in percentage (%) or in

millimetres (mm). Clicking on the middle bottom button (mm or % button) in the
dialogue toggles between the two display modes. Make sure % is displayed.

Click the mouse on the Evenly button to evenly space the seams:

Click the OK button to start generation of these seams.

ProSail 2015 8
The above dialogue shows the bottom half of the Hypar which currently has no seams.
Click the Add button once to add one seam :

Then click OK :

Nesting

Select Nesting from the Window menu:

Click New panels.

Type 1000 and press the enter key.

Click OK.
This will load our panels onto the Nesting Window with a fabric width of
1000mm.

ProSail 2015 10
If you have the autonesting module you would now just click the auto icon. However
you can also nest manually. The following is an explanation on how do this.

Click on panel 4 to highlight it :

Click on the rotate 180 icon :

Do exactly the same for panel 5 to get the following view :

ProSail 2015 11
Click on panel 5 and while holding the mouse button down, move the panel so it is
approximately in the following position. Then release the mouse button :

Now drag panel 3 so it is approximately in the following position.

Make sure panel 3 does not touch panel 2 or 4. If it does, move it slightly.

Click on

ProSail 2015 12
At this stage you would just select Plot from the Plot menu, and Nesting would plot
all the panels, telling you when you need to pull the fabric through at the end of each
table.

Click the go away box (small cross at the top right corner) of the Nesting window to
return to the Pagoda/Hypar window.

Select No to save changes.

This tutorial has only shown you some of the Hypar part of the program which is the
most commonly used part of the program. It can also do Pagodas which are like
symmetrical Hypars (they look like a perfect square in plan view). The beauty of
Pagodas is that because of their square plan form, they can be joined together to
cover a large area.

If you want to look at the other features of the program they are all available on this
demo program with the exception of printing offsets.

The full manual is also available from http://www.prosailcutter.com/downloads

To leave the Pagoda/Hypar program, select Quit from the File menu.

Again select No to save changes.
