Sustainable Design Thinking

https://www.icreatives.com/iblog/sustainable-design-thinking/

design thinking is more than competent of tending to this issue. It is extending past imaginative groups
and counting administration and partners, which suggests it can have a noteworthy effect on commerce
more broadly.

People are becoming more aware and worried about important issues like pollution, cutting down too
many trees, climate change, animals dying out, and having clean drinking water. This makes them better
shoppers who care about these things. Keeping track of how much harm a brand does to the
environment can give it an advantage over competitors who are harming the environment where they
source, make, or sell things.

The matter of sourcing raw materials, production, and disposal of a product post-consumption
frequently causes concern among customers. Several designers and creative professionals tend to place
exclusive emphasis on incorporating recycled or sustainable materials into their merchandise.

Consider sourcing and production along with the latter product cycle stage. Users want to ensure
product safety. Consider bottled water and filter systems as a market example.

The topic of environmental preservation has been identified by institutions such as The United Nations
as a matter of shared responsibility among all members of The human race. It is advisable for businesses
to adopt a similar stance, particularly while operating alongside competitors. Whilst competition may be
deemed as appropriate, exhibiting collaborative efforts in public can portray an impression of
commercial entities that prioritize more than solely financial gain.

It's really important to talk about taking care of the environment and being responsible when designing
things that are sustainable. It's important to make sure people know about eco-friendly products you
make, otherwise you'll miss out on positive advertisement.

The first step in thinking about design is understanding and caring about other people's feelings and
experiences. Usually, this would be about things that users are worried about in how easy a product is to
use, how it works, and if it can fix any issues. Designers need to understand the struggles of people
harming the environment and what could happen because of it.

Protecting the environment can be easier if we all work together and see it as a problem affecting
everyone. Designers are people. too.

Design thinking can be harmful if it focuses too much on making things easy for the user. People who
only care about their comfort and don't think about the environment could cause much harm.

When designing things, it's important to think about being friendly to The environment. Sometimes,
what people want isn't good for The Earth, so we need to balance that out by choosing sustainable
options. The only way we can stop The environment. from being damaged is to control our strong desire
to buy things we don't really need. This is important for all aspects of The environment.

If your product works well, people will want to keep using it. If you make a product that works well and
can be used multiple times, customers are usually willing to pay more for it.
Many platforms now require payment each time something is used, so the concept of using something
repeatedly without paying is not as popular as before. Your product will be very attractive to people
who want to use it for a long time without buying a new one, so don't underestimate its value. It helps
to spend less money when making things.

Incorporating a recycling policy within The framework of one's brand should be considered whenever
feasible. The adoption of sustainable practices involves The acceptance of antiquated merchandise while
simultaneously identifying viable measures for The repurposing of constituent materials, and The
conscientious disposal of items that are deemed unfit for reuse. Clients may appreciate The company's
practice of maintaining continued engagement and support post-purchase, rather than simply
disengaging from The customer.

Green design thinking means thinking about the environment when creating something new. it includes
thinking about what the Earth will need in the future. it's not just about using less energy and reusing
things more. The thing we make should be able to solve problems caused by changes in the
environment as much as it can.

The notion that corporations bear an obligation towards the wider community is intrinsically linked to
the concept that they also possess a duty to preserve the environment. Furthermore, the
implementation of ecological product design principles not only provides a structured framework for the
course of business operations but also serves to enhance its competitiveness and appeal to both
prospective and repeat customers.

To know about the effects of designs and products on the environment, we need to do research. we
should ask the right questions when we start designing something right away. You might already know
how to figure out what people want or need, but it's important to include environmental concerns too.

It should be noted that the implementation of environmentally-conscious design approaches cannot be

entirely achieved through communicative means. Conducting comprehensive research, formulating
pertinent inquiries, and considering costs are pivotal components that must be conveyed with
transparency to prospective consumers. However, the core focus must center on the product itself as
the principal catalyst for diminishing ecological footprints and possibly even restoring the environment.

Engaging stakeholders in the eco-friendly aspects of the design could pose a difficulty. Urge the
incorporation of safeguarding the environment into the corporate branding and statement. Customers
tend to prefer products that have a smaller impact on the environment and, from a profitability
standpoint, these products are likely to be more advantageous.

Designers ought to incorporate ethical considerations regarding waste, pollution, and overconsumption
into their design thinking, treating them as integral aspects rather than mere obstacles to achieving
product perfection.

To make designs that are good for the environment, everyone involved needs to change the way they
think. This includes the people who make decisions, the designers, and the people who use the designs.
Products should aim to introduce new ideas about how we perceive and interact with nature. Designers
are making a big difference by creating things that are good for the environment.
Green design thinking is not just about advertising and communicating ideas. The goal is to make
companies produce less pollution and think about what The customers care about When making their
products. When companies take care of The environment, they can keep growing for a long time. This is

The circular system thinking

It's important to know what circular thinking means before we go further into the process. We need to
remember that what we make affects people and the Earth. how much it affects them depends on how
well we understand that everything is connected like a big ecosystem.

The natural world exhibits a Circular design wherein each element is interconnected with other
components, and no resource or material goes unused. Circular thinking is imperative and requires
immediate attention. The adverse effects of linear systems on our planet are indisputable, vividly
manifested in The environmental problem of disposable plastic accumulation in The ocean.

Trash is harming the Earth and could hurt us too. We should learn from nature how to use everything
we take from the Earth and make it helpful at every step. We should see today's environmental issues as
chances to come up with new and different ideas instead of just problems. Now is the moment to stop
thinking in a straight line and start thinking about not wasting anything.

To start designing, you must first adopt a "circular" mindset for your product or service. If we take good
care of a product, it can last longer. we can also find another use for it after we use it for its main
purpose, or we can use materials that break down into nutrients when the product is done being used.
Which are the advantages of a company investing in sustainability?

Being sustainable helps a company succeed in the long run because it saves money. This is because
companies can invest in things like waste reduction and energy efficiency. They can also make sure their
suppliers are ethical and use eco-friendly practices. These investments will pay off later by reducing
costs.

There is another benefit to making a company more sustainable. It can create chances to create new
markets and be a leader with new, creative ideas. There are more and more products being made in a
way that helps the environment, like recycling or using nature as a guide. People are happy to pay more
for these kinds of products because they are good for the earth and are made to a high standard.

It is possible to simultaneously uphold A company's ethical, sustainable, and social principles while also
achieving positive financial outcomes. In fact, many lucrative business models exist that incorporate
these values at the very heart of their strategies. A company's capacity to solicit funds for investments in
activities that have a significant social and environmental impact can elevate its status as A world leader
in promoting positive transformation.

thinking.

Design thinking is about coming up with good ideas that help people and make the future better. Design
thinking means focusing on finding solutions. Design thinking means finding a way to solve a problem
that lasts for a long time. Analytical thinking means finding and fixing problems before they happen.
Design thinking aims to find a solution to a problem that can last for a long time, even if we don't know
exactly what will happen.in the future.

FOOD INDUSTRY COLLABORATING WITH WILDLIFE PARKS/SANCTUARIES

https://www.swm-programme.info/

The SWM Programme is a significant globally-driven effort, intended to enhance the preservation of
wildlife and bolster nourishment sustainability. Our focus is on creating novel, cooperative, and
adaptable methods for safeguarding wildlife and preserving ecosystems, all while enhancing the quality
of life for native populations and rural societies who rely on these natural assets.

Wild meat plays a vital role in the sustenance and livelihoods of millions of individuals. Indigenous
communities and rural populations in South America, Africa, and Asia greatly rely on wild animal flesh as
a crucial source of protein, fat, and micronutrient intake. Such meat holds significant importance as a
dietary staple.

Urban areas are increasingly developing a taste for wild meat, leading to a surge in its demand.
Inadequate management of wild meat hunting can result in a reduction in wildlife populations and an
increase in food insecurity among communities. Hundreds of wildlife species are currently in danger of
becoming extinct due to excessive hunting for food, as revealed by recent research.
within the temporal framework of 2018 to 2024, the Solid Waste Management ((SWM)) Programme
intends to foster enhanced preservation and judicious utilization of the fauna in the forested, savannah,
and wetland ecosystems. Field projects are currently in the process of being executed within a total of
15 countries throughout Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific regions. The objective is to:

- establish more effective regulations for hunting animals in the wild.

- enhance the availability of sustainably produced meat products and farmed fish.

- enhance the managerial competencies of rural and indigenous communities.

- decrease demand for wild meat, particularly in urban areas.

In the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi, an initiative advocating against the consumption of endangered
wildlife has been endorsed by over 150 restaurants. this campaign seeks to address the dietary
preferences of some individuals in the region, who regard a wide range of animals, including porcupines
and pangolins, as desirable culinary delicacies. According to Julianne Becker, the project coordinator,
WWF, and TRAFFIC have initiated the "Green Restaurant" campaign aiming to endorse food
establishments that do not offer animal species categorized as under threat, endangered, or vulnerable.
There are future prospects of extending this campaign to appealing restaurant owners who serve
wildlife cuisine.
The year 2007 saw The conduct of an investigation by TRAFFIC, which revealed Hanoi's emerging status
as a hub for The consumption of exotic fauna as food, health supplements, and decorative items.
Moreover, the findings indicated that The majority of The city's inhabitants lacked awareness regarding
The legal measures enacted to safeguard endangered species. According to The report, a proportion of
local inhabitants displayed a salient awareness of The notion of extinction; however, they did not
establish a correlation between their individual consumption patterns and The ecosystem.

A complete category of Wildlife-oriented dining establishments in Hanoi maintains captive enclosures of

animals such as crocodiles, civets, and turtles, intended for consumption, while simultaneously stocking
shelves with jars of liquor infused with endangered snakes or lizards. As per the statement released by
the World Wildlife Fund ((WWF)) and the Wildlife trade monitoring network TRAFFIC, participating
restaurants in the campaign have committed to refrain from serving Wildlife products that are
safeguarded under the legal framework of Vietnam. Additionally, the restaurants have pledged to
impart knowledge to their consumers regarding conservation endeavors in Vietnam.

Several restaurants and retailers located in The city have agreed to enroll as novel 'Champions' for The
initiative led by Chester Zoo. Chester Zoo. is leading a significant conservation effort to safeguard South
East Asian rainforests by proposing Chester as The world's first Sustainable Palm Oil City. The Olive Tree
Brasserie, a restaurant chain with locations in Chester on Watergate Row and in Stockton Heath, has
recently been announced as The newest addition to The movement.

Olive Tree Brasserie, founder and owner Dean Wilson, said: “We are very proud to be working with
Chester Zoo and supporting their campaign. About 98% of our food is made fresh from scratch so we
made just a few small adjustments to be able to become a Champion. I think what is important is that
we are behind the message that conservation is key and the hospitality industry should do whatever it
can to play its part.”

The orangutan, along with other diverse species, faces The ominous threat of nearing extinction due to
The unsustainable nature of oil palm plantations that occupy substantial areas of rainforests. The
demand for oil is robust, driven by its incorporation into an extensive array of domestic items within The
United Kingdom, encompassing consumables, sanitation agents as well as beauty and hygiene products.

Environmentalists are engaged in a struggle to advocate for the development of palm oil in a sustainable
manner, in order to safeguard the rainforests and the diverse array of creatures that inhabit them. The
drive mandates enterprises to embrace a policy promoting sustainable palm oil and conduct audits on
their supply chain.

Conservationists from zoos are urging establishments such as restaurants, food vendors, retail outlets,
workspaces, visitor destinations, manufacturers, schools, and colleges to unite in their effort to halt
extinction.

The research found that 32% of the Thai urban population had consumed wild meat in the past 12
months. Typical wild meat consumers are 18 to 30-year-old urban Thais with a high monthly income
and are not seeking it for sustenance but enjoyment.

“People may think that wild meat consumers are people who cannot access information about illegal
wild meat or are underprivileged. However, the research shows otherwise. It was a surprise to learn that
consumption of wild meat is a common behavior among the young urban generation who may not know
how this affects the environment,” said ZSL technical adviser Petch Manopawitr.

Petch elucidated that the act of consuming wildlife results in a compounded impact over time. It has
been observed that certain wild animals, such as pangolins, are subjected to rampant hunting, resulting
in their precarious state of being listed as critically endangered.

“In Thailand, many forests lack wild animals. Wildlife helps maintain ecological balance, especially in
carrying pollen from flower to flower and dispersing seeds. For example, elephants and rhinos are large
seed-dispersing animals, so plants need them. If there are no wild animals, forests will become degraded
and plants will disappear. Although many anti-wildlife consumption campaigns have been launched,
poaching in conservation areas still happens. If we can stop the demand for illegal wildlife products,
poaching will decrease,” said Petch.

Good-with-Mandai-initiative-featuring-a-food-trail-and-game-to-encourage-everyday-choices-that-
benefit-people-wildlife-and-nature.html

the Mandai Wildlife Group has initiated a program called "Choose Good with Mandai," which includes a
food tour and gaming experience to promote daily decisions that positively impact people, animals, and
the environment.

the Choose Good with Mandai endeavor, which comprised two parts, involved the collaboration of 20
eateries, such as Three Buns, Dearborn, FoodXervices, and Starter Lab. These establishments developed
food products and packages influenced by particular animal species and their eating habits. the launch
of these offerings is scheduled for 21 October 2022. On the 18th of November in 2022, a game
accessible through the internet will be introduced.

Mandai Wildlife Group is initiating a novel initiative called Choose Good with Mandai, centered on
highlighting the inherent significance of wildlife to raise awareness of the reciprocal association
between humans, the environment, and the planet.

The promotion will emphasize multiple everyday practices that can have a significant impact on
safeguarding wildlife and conserving natural resources for generations to come. These may encompass
opting for plant-based edibles, reducing waste by utilizing "imperfect" food items and selecting goods
produced and sourced sustainably.
The Choose Good with Mandai initiative aims to attract individuals towards adopting simplistic
approaches for mitigating their environmental footprint while concurrently stimulating a heightened
sense of reverence towards nature and wildlife.

Ms. Suzanne Ho, Senior Vice President, Brand & Communications for Mandai Wildlife Group said, “We
are tapping on our shared love for food and the gaming culture of today - both highly accessible and
well-loved concepts - to draw interest and rally people into action. Food and beverages form a large
portion of most people’s expenses and daily consumption, so we are zooming in on choices that are
simple and can become a way of life. Making good choices for the planet is not ground-breaking but it
makes all the difference when people come together to continuously do that every day. We hope to
bring as many people as possible on board to Choose Good with Mandai and our community of
conscious collaborators.”

Ms. Suzanne Ho added: “Our food trail is created with 20 local food establishments which manage their
operations with the planet in mind, putting environmental and social issues at the heart of their
businesses. By doing so, we hope people are more aware of the options they have, and what sustainable
businesses do and practice. The multiplier effect from individuals and businesses choosing good
together spells hope for people, wildlife and nature to have a healthier planet to share and live in.”

The campaign commences with the initiation of the Choose Good Food Trail. In collaboration with 20
similar F&B brands, Mandai Wildlife Group has developed a range of exclusive food products and
grocery bundles that have been influenced by the diets of animals, including bananas, papayas, seeds,
and grains.

The aim of this initiative is to initiate discussions regarding how the various animal species in our
environment contribute to a sustainable planet and also to emphasize the interdependence that exists
between humans and wildlife. this cooperative effort highlights 14 creature varieties which comprise the
Celebes Crested Macaque, Malayan Sun Bear, and Asian Small-Clawed Otter. The partners have vowed
to donate a portion of the profits generated by their products to support conservation initiatives
conducted by Mandai Wildlife Group in Singapore and neighboring areas.

As part of the Choose Good Food Trail initiative, Kind Kones and Love Handle, both establishments that
promote all-natural vegan cuisine, have concocted special dishes. Kind Kones offers a Banana and
Coconut ice cream with Fig Jam, while Love Handle serves Grilled Corn with toasted coconut and sweet
potato chips, both of which are plant-based.

The food trail that has been thoughtfully selected emphasizes the significance of three distinct functions
carried out by each species in preserving harmony within the environment. These include the
distribution of seeds, recycling of nutrients, and controlling the populations of wildlife:

Animals scatter seeds while searching for food, promoting tree growth and benefits such as shelter and
food. The Social Space's Monkey Business smoothie bowl features dragon fruit, papaya, banana, soy
milk, and honey, inspired by the diet of the Celebes Crested Macaque. Birds of Paradise introduces new
sorbet flavor inspired by Sumatran Orangutan diet: Cucumber & Double Mint.
Every species contributes to ecological balance, whether by acting as a predator, prey, or decomposer,
and plays a crucial role in sustaining stability in The populations of wildlife and the growth of vegetation.
Among The notable contributors is The Asian Small-Clawed Otter. The latest addition to
GoodFoodPeople's menu is The Garlic Seafood with Pesto Pasta, inspired by The Prawn, which is a
favorite food of otters. Raw Kitchen Bar has also crafted a Pulled Beef Toast with plant-based protein to
honor The Malayan Tiger, a crucial apex predator and keystone species in its ecosystem.

When animals dig through the forest floor in search of food, they facilitate the loosening of soil which, in
turn, contributes to the promotion of nutrient cycling. Mr. aims to advocate for the preservation of the
tiniest bear species on the planet, emphasizing its significance within the environment. Bucket
Chocolaterie has invented a delectable Chocolate Bar infused with a combination of fig, banana,
coconut, and honey, which happen to be some of the Sun Bear's preferred snacks. Huggs Coffee plans to
introduce a unique combo, which includes a scrumptious Pesto Chicken wrap, Honey Lemon, and a
Banana Walnut Muffin. Drawing inspiration from the eating habits of the Asiatic Black Bear, Grain
Traders is introducing a Mandai Hero Bowl that makes for a perfect lunch, and Little Farms is creating an
Avocado, Quinoa, and Feta Bowl.

Embark on this journey of discovery about the importance of wildlife in our world and rally others to join
in by sharing your experience on social media with #choosegoodwithMandai. Posts on Instagram that
include at least five dishes from the Choose Good Food Trail stand to win prizes worth up to SGD5,600.

In the second segment of the campaign, there is an interactive activity called the Choose Good
game. Challenge. This allows the audience to select their preferred animal character and embark on
thrilling escapades aimed at rescuing unappealing food varieties. Additionally, participants can gather
eco-friendly seafood and plant-based food products. Everyday settings like the grocery store and the
kitchen serve as the backdrop for the game. By engaging in educational comics and entertaining trivia,
individuals can grasp the idea of how being mindful can greatly contribute to preserving the ecosystem.
One example is that they will search for seafood packaging that displays logos such as the ASC green tick
or the BAP emblem that utilize eco-friendly methods. By selecting seafood that is responsibly harvested
or cultivated instead of relying on products. obtained through trawling, which has significant negative
impacts on the environment, players discover the importance of making wise choices.

The Choose Good Game Challenge aims to provide educational opportunities for individuals to learn
about environmentally conscious behaviors through gamification, thereby promoting an enjoyable and
engaging learning experience. The initiative endeavors to increase awareness and knowledge regarding
sustainable practices, fostering behavioral changes toward positive shifts in environmental conservation
efforts. The initiative titled "Choose Good with Mandai" underscores the notion that individuals can
actively engage in the preservation of wildlife by adopting judicious decision-making in their daily
endeavors.
