UNIT-IV

Section of solids:

1) A hexagonal prism of base 30 mm and 70 mm long is resting on the ground on its base and
one of its rectangular faces is parallel to the V.P. It is cut by a sectional plane parallel to the
V.P. and 10 mm in front of the axis of the prism. Draw the sectional front view.
2) A pentagonal pyramid of base 30 mm and 70 mm long axis is resting on its base on H.P. A
horizontal sectional plane cuts the pyramid at a height of 30 mm from the base. Draw the
sectional top view.
3) A square prism of base 30 mm and height 60 mm is resting on its base with base edge
inclined at 300 with V.P. A cutting plane perpendicular to the V.P. and 350 to H.P. cuts the
solid meeting the axis at a height of 25 mm above the H.P. Draw the sectional F.V., T.V and
S.V. of the bottom portion and true shape of the section.
4) A pentagonal pyramid of base edge 30 mm and height 60 mm is resting on its base edge
perpendicular to V.P. A cutting plane at 500 with H.P., perpendicular to V.P. and passing
through a corner cuts the pyramid. Draw the sectional F.V., T.V. and S.V. of the bottom
portion and the true shape of the section.
5) A cylinder of 50 mm diameter and 70 mm long axis is resting on its base on the H.P. It is
cut by a section plane perpendicular to the V.P., the V.T. of which cuts the axis at a point 40
mm from the bottom face and makes an angle of 450 with the reference line. Draw its front
view, sectional top view, sectional side view and true shape of the section.
6) A cone of base 75 mm diameter and 75 mm long axis is parallel to the V.P. and making an
angle of 450 with H.P., is resting on H.P. on one of its base point. The H.T. of the cutting
plane is parallel to the end generator in the top view. Draw the sectional front view and true
shape of the section. Assume the apex of the cone is removed.
7) A pentagonal prism of base 30 mm and 60 mm long axis has an edge of its base on H.P. and
axis parallel to the V.P. and inclined at 600 to the H.P. It is cut by an A.I.P. inclined at 600 to
the H.P. and passing through the highest corner of the prism. Draw its sectional top view
and true shape of the section.
8) A pentagonal pyramid of base 30 mm and 60 mm long axis is lying on one of its face on
H.P. It is cut by a cutting plane perpendicular to V.P. and inclined at 600 to H.P. The cutting
plane is passing through the opposite corner of the base. Draw the sectional top view and
true shape of section.
9) A pentagonal prism of base 30 mm side and 70 mm long axis is resting on one of its
rectangular face on the ground with the axis parallel to the V.P. It is cut by an A.V.P. which
makes an angle of 450 with V.P. and passes through a point at a distance 25 mm on the axis
from one of its ends. Draw its sectional front view and obtain true shape of the section.
10) A cube of side 45 mm is cut by a sectional plane so that the true shape is a regular hexagon.
Draw the projections of the sectioned cube and show the true shape of the section. Also find
the angle of the cutting plane.
