3. A manufacturer of solar heaters claims that 60% of his heater works satisfactorily for
10years. Assume that his claim is legitimate find i) probability that four of five heaters
work satisfactorily for 10years and ii) the probability that at most two of five heaters do
not work satisfactorily for 10years.
4. Derive the mean and variance of binomial and Poisson distribution.
5. Five die were thrown 96 times and the number of times an odd number actually turned

6. The length of telephone conversation in a booth has been an exponential distribution
and found an average to be 5minute. Find the probability that a random call made from
this booth i)ends less than 5minutes ii) between 5 and 10minutes.
7. A sample of 100 dry battery cells tested to find the length of life produced the

following results x = 12hours  = 3 hours. Assuming the data to be normally
distributed what percentage of battery cells are expected to have life i) more than
15hours ii) less than 6 hours iii) between 10 and 14 hours.
8. Find marginal distribution of x & y and COV(X,Y) if the joint pdf of X & Y is
