TCP/IP Networks and Network Management Lab

Experiment No.8 Date:

Objective: To determine the most efficient way to route data on a network and prevent routing
loops.

Aim: To implement and simulate Routing Information Protocol by using Cisco Packet Tracer.

Software: Cisco Packet Tracer 8.2.1

Flow chart for Routing Information Protocol process:

Procedure:

Circuit Diagram:

Procedure:

Step 1: First, open the Cisco packet tracer desktop and select the devices given below:

S. No Device Model Name Quantity

1 PC PC 6
2 Switch 2950-24 3
3 Router 1841 3

IP Addressing Table:

S. No Device IPv4 Address Subnet mask Default Gateway

1 PC0 192.168.1.2 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.4
2 PC1 192.168.1.3 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.4
3 PC2 192.168.2.2 255.255.255.0 192.168.2.4
4 PC3 192.168.2.3 255.255.255.0 192.168.2.4
5 PC4 192.168.3.2 255.255.255.0 192.168.3.4
6 PC5 192.168.3.3 255.255.255.0 192.168.3.4
Then, create a network topology as shown above in the image.

Use an Automatic connecting cable to connect the devices with others.

Step 2: For connecting three ports of Router1:

 Click on router1 and click WIC- 1T
 Turn off the green light.
 Drag the bottom slot to upper two slots one by one.
 Turn on the green light.
 Click on router0 and turn off the green light. Go to WIC- 1T and then drag the bottom
slot to upper slot one time only. Turn on the green light.
 Similarly, do for router2.
Step 3: Configure the PCs (hosts) with IPv4 address and Subnet Mask according to the IP
addressing table given above.
 To assign an IP address in PC0, click on PC0.
 Then, go to desktop and then IP configuration and there you will IPv4 configuration.
 Fill IPv4 address and subnet mask.
 Repeat the same procedure with other PCs to configure them thoroughly.
Step 4: Configure router with IP address and Subnet mask.
IP Addressing Table Router:

S. No Device Interface IPv4 Address Subnet mask

1 Router0 FastEthernet0/0 192.168.1.4 255.255.255.0
FastEthernet0/1 192.168.4.2 255.255.255.0
2 Router1 FastEthernet0/0 192.168.2.4 255.255.255.0
FastEthernet0/1 192.168.4.3 255.255.255.0
Serial0/1/0 192.168.5.2 255.255.255.0
3 Router2 FastEthernet0/0 192.168.3.4 255.255.255.0
Serial0/0/0 192.168.5.3 255.255.255.0

 To assign an IP address in router0, click on router0.

 Then, go to config and then Interfaces.
 Make sure to turn on the ports.
 Then, configure the IP address in FastEthernet and serial ports according to IP addressing
Table.
 Fill IPv4 address and subnet mask.
 Repeat the same procedure with other routers to configure them thoroughly. Step 5:
After configuring all of the devices we need to assign the routes to the routers.
 Click on router0 and go to config tab. Click on RIP and add network address of all
networks connected to that router.

 Similarly, assign for router1 and router2.

Step 6: Simulate by sending a packet from PC0 to PC1, Router0, Router1, PC2, Router2, PC5.

Output:
Static Window:

Router 0:

Router 1:

Router 2:

PC 0 to PC1:

PC 0 to Router 0:

PC 0 to Router 1:

PC 0 to PC 2:

PC 0 to Router 2:

PC 0 to PC 5:

Conclusion:

Viva Questions:

1. What is RIP?
2. Compare RIPV1 and RIPV2.
3. How do we configure rip? Specify the commands.
4. Which transport layer protocol does rip use and the associated port number?
