Introduction

• This system is categorised as an IBS because the process

of construction is carried out using a systematic and
mechanised method, that is, by using reusable formwork
panels

• Consequently, cast in-situ concrete construction can be

industrialised or “ manufactured ” on-site using the
mechanised system

• The system allows the rapid on-site placement of cast in-

situ concrete to form beams, columns, slabs and walls

• Currently, the system has rapidly gained acceptance in

many towns and cities by both big and small contractors,
due to the many advantages.

Page 3
Application

• The system is suitable for buildings that can function with less flexibility during
their service life.

• In other words, these buildings are able to function without a need for major
modifications or renovations in the near future.

• Previously, the system is associated with the mass construction of low-cost houses,
flats or apartments.

• However, currently, this method has gained the increasing acceptance of architects
and engineers and is widely used to build prestigious luxurious high-rise
apartments and hotels.

Reusable Formwork System

• Reusable formwork systems is one of the systems that integrate well with the
concept of modern methods of construction in delivering faster and more
efficient construction process.

• In Malaysia, the steel formwork system is better preferred for the construction
of walls instead of beams and columns due to the many repetitions of similar
wall components in wall frame/load-bearing wall buildings.

Page 6
• In this case, greater economy can be achieved by utilising the standardisation
and modularisation of the wall system.

• Steel formwork components are normally available in standard panel sizes.

• These panels are stiffened by using built-in stiffeners of tie rods to resist lateral
concrete pressure during concreting.

• Two popular types of formworks:-

− Wall Formwork
− Tunnel Formwork

Page 7
Wall Formwork

• The concreting of walls

has to be carried out first.

• After the wall concrete has

hardened, the concreting
of slabs can then be
carried out.

formworks to form a ‘ L ’ shape
component.

Curved concrete walls can be also constructed using curved steel formworks

Page 12
Tunnel Formwork

• Walls and slabs can be

casted simultaneously

Aluminium Formwork System

• Flexible, lightweight and suits all

building types without the need to rely
on heavy cranes and other heavy
construction plant and equipment

• The equipment will then be dismantled

Extruded aluminium alloy and rolled
and used repetitively for about 300 aluminium sheets
times

• Can be constructed a building at the rate

of 4 to 5 days per floor as compared to
10 to 15 days per floor for conventional
system.

The walkway bracket provides a safe

working platform and can be
positioned at various height.

The whaler corner clamp is used to secure the

corner positioning of the whaler.

Advantages

• Involves simple operations with a minimum number of workers and, eventually the
construction of concrete buildings become more efficient
• Manual labour works can be reduced.
• Duration of construction can be reduced.
• Suitable for both low-rise and high-rise construction.
• The monolithic construction obtained from this system also allows for better
integrity and robustness of the building.
• Provides good accuracy for the cast in-situ components.
• A smooth internal finish that eliminate the need for plastering.
• Lower cost.
• Simplicity in equipment.
