Yr. & Sec.: CHE – 3B Score: _________

Instruction: Read and research Aristotle's Virtue Ethics then answer the following questions.
(40 pts.)
1. Do you believe that practicing virtues leads to a happier life? Explain your viewpoint,
using examples or personal experiences to support your argument.

Yes, I believe that habitually practicing virtues leads to a virtuous self and eventually, a
happier life. Virtues such as kindness, honesty, patience, and gratitude improve
relationships, give us peace of mind, and create a sense of purpose. One personal
experience was when I volunteered to help distribute school supplies to elementary
students in Namabbalan Integrated School for a little outreach program conducted by our
class. That simple act of kindness was rewarded by genuine smiles and happy eyes of the
kids, and it made me feel joy and fulfillment to be at the receiving end of those sincere
emotions. It strengthened my sense of purpose and reminded me of the lasting impact of
showing acts of kindness, small or not.

2. How do virtues play a role in building strong relationships? Discuss specific virtues and
how they contribute to trust and understanding in interpersonal connections.

Virtues are like the building blocks of strong relationships because they help people trust
and understand each other. When we practice virtues, we show respect and care for others,
making it easier to form meaningful and lasting bonds.

One important virtue is honesty. Being honest means telling the truth and being clear
about our feelings or intentions. An example was when my friend asks for my opinion
about her behavior when she is upset, and I answered that she should make herself calm
and collected first before saying words she might regret afterwards. Saying the truth
shows how I value our relationship and my desire to help my friend grow. Honesty builds
trust through letting people know that they can rely on one another. Another key virtue is
patience. Everyone has flaws and makes mistakes, and patience helps us accept this
without rushing to anger or judgment. Lastly, forgiveness is essential in overcoming
conflicts. No relationship is perfect, and misunderstandings happen. When we forgive, we
let go of resentment and give the relationship a chance to heal. This shows maturity and
commitment to maintaining the bond.

By practicing these virtues, we create an environment of trust, understanding, and mutual

respect, which are the foundation of strong and healthy relationships.

3. List and analyze a current event or societal issue from a virtue ethics perspective.
Which virtues are at play, and how do they influence the different viewpoints on the
issue?

From the perspective of virtue ethics, celebrities running for political office in the Philippines
should be judged on the basis of their character and motivations rather than their fame or
experience alone. Virtues such as courage, integrity, and justice are critical in determining
their eligibility for public service. Supporters may say that celebrities with a history of
charity or activism exemplify compassion and a genuine desire to serve, leveraging their
platform to promote the general good. However, critics frequently challenge their rationality
and humility, emphasizing the importance of expertise and a thorough understanding of
governance in order to make sound decisions. Ultimately, virtue ethics encourages voters to
evaluate whether these individuals exhibit virtues like justice, integrity, and humility, which
are essential for ethical and effective leadership, rather than focusing solely on their celebrity
status.

4. Reflect on a virtue that you believe is crucial in your life. How does this virtue influence
your decisions and actions daily?

One virtue I consider crucial in my life is integrity, as it serves as the foundation for trust,
consistency, and self-respect. Integrity influences my daily decisions by guiding me to act
honestly and stay true to my values, even when faced with challenges or temptations. For
example, in situations where cutting corners might seem easier, integrity reminds me to
prioritize doing what is right over what is convenient. It also shapes my interactions with
others, ensuring that I am fair, reliable, and transparent in my words and actions. By
practicing integrity, I build stronger relationships and maintain a sense of inner peace,
knowing that my actions align with my principles. This virtue keeps me grounded and
motivates me to be a positive example for those around me.
