properties, physical changes, and structure of
substances and mixtures.
B. Performance Standards The learner should be able to…

1. Present how water behaves in its different

state within the water cycle
C. Learning Competencies MELC: Explain the properties of solids, liquids,
and gases based on the particle nature of matter;
WEEK 1- WEEK 2

Objectives At the end of the lesson, the students should be able

to:

1. explain the physical properties of matter;

2. show understanding of physical properties
through differentiated activities; and
3. realize the importance of physical properties
of matter in our everyday lives.

S
A. INTRODUCTION ROUTINARY ACTIVITIES (3minutes)

1. Prayer and greetings

Good Morning class! “Good Morning, Ms

Charm!”

Okay, _________ kindly lead the prayer? Student: Let us bow our
heads and feel the
presence of the Lord…
Amen!

2. Classroom management

Before take your seats, arrange your chairs

properly and pick up all the pieces of trash (The students will do the
under your tables. teacher’s instruction)

3. Checking of attendance

Class Secretary, is there any absentee for

today?” “I’m glad to tell you that
everyone is present
today.”
“Good to hear that everyone is present today!”

"Grade 8, new learning ahead!"

"Let's get started, everyone!"

RECALL (3 minutes)

“Yesterday we discussed about what matter

made of. Based on our discussion yesterday,
matter is made of what?”

“ The matter is made up

“Very good.” of tiny particles called
atom.”
“Any other idea/ you learn from yesterday’s
discussion?”

“Atom is the building

blocks of matter.”
“What are those three subatomic particles of
atom.” “Atom has three
subatomic particles.’

“ The three subatomic

“ Now that you already understand what matter particles are the protons,
made of, we can proceed now to new lesson.” neutrons and electrons.

MOTIVATION
2 PICS = 1 WORD!
( 5 MINUTES)

Instruction. The teacher will show two pictures

and the students will identify the word that is
being ask.

 The temperature at which a substance

changes from a liquid to a gas. (100
degree C)

________________

 The temperature at which a substance

changes from a solid to a liquid. ( 0
degree C) “Boiling point”

_______________ “Melting point”

 The mass per unit volume, typically
measured in grams per cubic centimeter
(g/cm³)
“Density”

______________

Guide Questions:
1. Based on the words, what do you think
is our lesson all about? (Students answer may
2. Have you observed any changes in vary)
materials overtime?

B. DEVELOPMENT DISCUSSION PROPER

(10 minutes)

Physical Properties of matter - are

characteristics of a matter that can be observed
or measured without changing the substance's
chemical composition.

1. Extensive Properties
These depend on the amount of matter present:
 Mass: The amount of matter in an
object, measured in kilograms (kg) or
grams (g).
 Volume: The space occupied by
matter, measured in liters (L),
milliliters (mL), or cubic meters (m³).
 Length: The extent of an object in one
dimension, measured in meters (m) or
centimeters (cm).
2. Intensive Properties
These do not depend on the amount of matter
present:
 Density: The mass per unit volume,
typically measured in grams per cubic
centimeter (g/cm³) or kilograms per
cubic meter (kg/m³).
 Boiling Point: The temperature at
which a substance changes from a
liquid to a gas. (100 degree C)
 Melting Point: The temperature at
which a substance changes from a solid
to a liquid. ( 0 degree C)
 Color: The visual appearance of the
substance.
 Odor: The smell of the substance.
 Hardness: The resistance of a material
to deformation.
C. ENGAGEMENT IT’S SHOWTIME!
GROUP ACTIVITY
(15 minutes)

The class will be divided into 4 groups and

each group will be given a task and 3 minutes
to present.

Differentiated activity:

Instruction: Each group must differentiate

intensive and extensive properties and give
examples through the following:

GROUP 1 – Role playing

GROUP 2 –News casting
GROUP 3 – Game show
GROUP 4 – Reality show

Criteria: (Groups will follow

teacher’s instruction and
will start doing the group
activity)

D. ASSIMILATION GUIDE QUESTION

(2 MINUTES)
1. As a student, what is the
importance of learning physical
properties in everyday lives? (Students answer may
2. Do you think not knowing vary)
physical properties can affect
your lives?

“Very good insight!”

“Give her three claps” (Class will follow the

teacher’s instruction)
ASSESSMENT GUESS IT RIGHT!
RECITATION
( 5 MINUTES)

Instruction. Read the statement carefully and

identify if the statement if EXTENSIVE OR
INTENSIVE PROPERTIES.

1. The temperature of the boiling water is ANSWER:

100 degree C, regardless of how much 1. Intensive
water is in the pot. 2. Intensive
2. The color of the apple is red, even if 3. Extensive
you cut it into smaller pieces. 4. Extensive
3. The volume of swimming pool is much 5. Intensive
larger than the volume of a bathtub.
4. The length of a piece of string is 1
meter, but a longer piece might be 5
meters.
5. The melting point of ice is 0 degree C,
regardless of how much ice you have.
A. EXTEND ASSIGNMENT (2 MINUTES)

1. On your notebook, answer the

following questions:
a. What I learn?
b. What I want to learn more?
c. I realized?
2. Advance study about the chemical
properties of matter.

REMARKS
REFLECTION
A. No. of learners who
earned 80% in the
evaluation
B. No. of learners who
require additional
activities for
remediation
C. Did the remedial lessons
work? No. of learners
who have caught up in
the lesson
D. No. of learners who
continue to require
remediation
E. Which of my teaching
strategies worked well?
Why did these work?
F. What difficulties did I
encounter which my
principal or supervisor
can help me solve?
G. What innovation or
localized materials did I
used/discover which I
