Resort gives new strength to face life in better way.

CLASSIFICATION OF RESORTS

Resorts may be classified basically into 4 categories depending on the where? And the why?
Of their springing up.
Hill resorts: these generally spring up in areas abounding natural beauty in form of hills, mountains, streams, rivers,
lakes another point of beauty so top all this area must boast of good climate thought the season.

Tourism is travel for recreational, leisure or business purposes.
The world tourism organization
defines tourists as people travel to and stay in places outside their usual environment for more than twenty-four (24)

activity remunerated from within the place.

Resorts are places people can stay that offer more than just lodging, food, and drink. The different resorts are golf and
beach resorts, island and lake resorts, mountain and ski resorts, and spa resorts.

These hotels as destinations may be characterized by distinctive architecture, upscale lodgings, ballrooms, large
conference facilities, restaurants, and recreation activities such as golf or skiing. They may be located in a variety of
settings from major cities to remote locations.

Resorts provide guests with a comprehensive holiday experience that covers accommodation and several leisurely
activities. Hotels prioritise offering a comfortable stay. They offer amenities and other perks based on grade.

Unlike standard hotels, which primarily focus on providing a place to sleep and basic services, resorts aim to offer
everything a guest might need or want during their stay. This includes entertainment, relaxation, and dining—all in
one location.

The role of resorts in tourism is to provide accommodation, amenities, and services to tourists, enhancing their overall
travel experience. The role of resorts in tourism is to provide ancillary services such as promoting Ayurvedic remedies
as a significant element of health tourism.
.

FIRST EVER RESORT

The concept of leisure resorts is not a product of the modern age, but in fact resorts have been in existence for many
centuries. Historically, the oldest resorts can be traced back to the Roman empire of nearly two thousand years ago.

" The ancient Romans created a public leisure facility known as Baths that could be used by
both men and women separately.
Gradually the baths evolved from their modest structure to include more extravagant facilities such as a gym, a library,
restaurant, stores, lounge, tavern and even a museum and a theater. These baths were utilized for health, recreation and
social enjoyment.
In Europe the earliest spa resort was developed in Belgium in the fourteenth century in a town that is now known by
the name of Spa.
In the seventeenth century, resorts and spas became popular in Britain with King Charles II leading the trend by
visiting various resorts for relaxation and enjoyment.
The nineteenth century saw the development of exclusive resort facilities offering more privacy to the visitors.
The fact that resorts came to be used by visitors for longer stays, resulted in more home-like facilities being added to
the resorts,
In North American countries the earliest resorts were developed at the starting of the. nineteenth century. The first
resorts were created in Virginia and New.York. Soon afterwards, the concept of Beach Resorts became immensely
popular. The sea became a great place of recreation and beautiful beach resorts rush<eomed allover North Antericean
the Caribbean, Jungle resorts also became popular as the sovemments med to nonservethe wildlife and organized
tourism in such a way that it promoted adventure tours to the wild, without harming the flora and fauna of the region.
Back in England,
King Charles II
restored the monarchy
in 1660 after years of
Puritan rule. He spent
time at the popular
resorts of the day—
Bath, Tunbridge
Wells, and Harrogate.
Thus began a long
history of attractions
being popularized by
the rich and famous, a
tradition that
continues today. In
other parts of the
world, royalty
continues to be the trendsetters, while in North America, stars of the popular culture determine the ‘‘in’’ places. There
is an old saying in tourism that mass follows class. Destinations are initially made popular by a small band of
influential people. This puts the place on the map. Seeking to emulate this group, others are attracted to the location.

FIRST EVER RESORT

In Greco-Roman culture and in ancient Persia, hospitals for recuperation and rest were built at thermal baths.
Guinness World Records officially recognised Japan's Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan, founded in 705, as the oldest hotel
in the world.

The hotel industry goes back way further than you might think. Sure, there are classic properties in historic cities such
as Paris and Rome. But in Japan, there's an inn that surpasses those places by centuries.

Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan, a Japanese resort located in Hayakawa, not far from Mount Fuji, has been in business
since 705. Recognized by Guinness World Records as the oldest continuously running hotel in the world, the property
has been passed down for 53 generations.
Founded by Fujiwara Mahito,
Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan has over 30
spacious rooms with traditional
Japanese decor. Although the inn has
undergone quite a bit of modernization
and upkeep over the centuries, the main
attractions have not changed. These
include the soothing hot springs and
gorgeous views that are still the core of
the hotel's appeal.

From Tokyo, travelers can take the

roughly four-hour train to Minobu
where a shuttle completes the journey
with an hour-long transfer. After
arriving at this peaceful retreat, guests can reconnect with nature and center themselves while enjoying the soothing
benefits of four hot springs that feed six baths. There are private and shared options both indoors and outdoors.

A multicourse dinner starts with lighter fare like sushi and features hotpot as the main dish. The chef uses seasonal,
often hyperlocal ingredients to prepare beautifully plated cuisine. Guests can enjoy breakfast in their room.
The Manila Hotel is situated in the heart of the City of Manila. William Howard Taft created an urban plan for the
city of Manila. He hired Architect Daniel Hudson Burnham who drafted a wide and long tree-lined boulevard that
would begin at the park where the end of the bay would be dominated by a magnificent hotel. To execute Burnham’s
plans, Taft hired William E. Parsons, a New York city architect, who envisioned an impressive, comfortable hotel
which he patterned along the lines of Californian mission style architecture.

The historic Manila Hotel has seen the Filipino through the best and the most challenging times. Its rich heritage is
intertwined with the country’s history, and the identity of the city it lives in.

On July 4, 1912, The Manila Hotel first opened its doors to the public, as announced on the pages of what was then
known as Manila Daily Bulletin. A sprawling property located in the heart of Manila, the country’s first ever five-star
hotel became the address of prominence visited by the most illustrious of guests.

The hotel has served as witness to how the city has suffered so much damage during the outbreak of World War II
under the Japanese invasion. It also served as the official residence of General Douglas MacArthur and his family. It is
also known as the “Address of Prestige” in the Far East to prominent people–presidents, royalties, public figures and
rock stars–as well as other discriminating guests.

As the “true heart of the Philippines,” the hotel also helped the city in its effort to rebuild itself and establish the city
as a major economic center in the Pacific region. More than a century later, Manila Hotel’s stories continue to evoke
nostalgia from people of all ages who remember the hotel as its different stag

Today, the hotel takes pride in having its own character, which is uniquely Filipino. We have remained to be one of the
most recognizable and celebrated hotels. We began welcoming guests in 1912. Our distinctive blend of history, luxury
and genuine Filipino hospitality has made us a word-of-mouth across the globe. We continue that legacy with an
unmatched selection of accommodations, activities and experiences that invite guests to immerse themselves in the
beauty and traditions of the Filipino people. Come celebrate with us and discover the most historical hotel in Manila.
DESIGN CONSIDERATION
1. Site Planning

Site planning for a resort is the initial step towards the construction of the development. It requires in-depth research
and analysis of the site conditions, the geography, and topography of the site and the elements present on the site. It is
also very essential to recognize contextual components such as a nearby lake, beach, mountains, or any other natural
settings as they play a pivotal role in the design process. The natural environment of the proposed site acts as a
guideline to start site planning and control the effects of the environment for the effective design outcome.

2. Contextual Elements

The design must resonate with the context of the site in the construction along with the social and economic entities.
The contextual elements based on the housing typology, ideologies and the materials used are often the reflections of
customs and traditions of the place. The design and planning process can incorporate the features of the context,
selection of materials, and the design elements considered for the typology of the resort and the facilities that it will
serve.

3. Environmental Consideration

Environment consideration is an essential component during a resort development because of the impact it will have
on the site and the environment. It must pre-analyze certain factors while designing such as pollution the construction
will cause and damage to the fertile soils, discard of waste, solid waste, and sewage. The design should aim to
conserve the flora and fauna as much as possible and build considering it. The design development could lead to
alteration in the skyline, views from the site, and vision of the natural landscape hence, it must develop responsibly.

4. Exterior Design

The exterior design depends on the building materials that are easily available and suitable for the site. It can vary as
per the context of the site from stone, timber to bricks, and mud or bamboo. There is a direct relationship between the
materials used and the building considering the climatic conditions. The wall structure and roof depends upon the
weather to withstand powerful winds to a heavy downpour. The exterior design also reflects on the courtyard, porch
design, which is essential for the ventilation to establish maximum air circulation within the built body.

5. Interior Design

The interior design of the building determines the theme of the resort and sets the ambience of the space. The interior
design must complement the exteriors through proper accessibility and ventilation systems in all spaces. The furniture
and other fittings, the shades of colour, and essential facilities such as a bathroom, wash area must be in sync with the
overall design format of the resort.

6. Hierarchy of spaces

The layout of the resort plays a vital role in the overall functionality and success of the design. It should base the
layout on a hierarchy of spaces that differentiate between public, semi-public, and private spaces. The connection
between the indoor and outdoor spaces is very important and a smooth transition from one space to another. The
spaces should cater to all age groups and needs to have a provision of special facilities for disabled people.

7. Aesthetic Appeal

Aesthetic appeal is very essential apart from the exterior and interior design as the resort acts like a retreat for people
to connect with the natural environment and enjoy their leisure time. The structure should seamlessly blend with the
surrounding environment that uplifts the natural beauty of the site.

8. Landscape Design
The resort design depends on the landscape on a vast portion as it is effective to create an environment in and around
the site. It also helps in developing spaces of ambience and adds greenery that is usually missing in the cityscapes.
Green zones in and around the building help to bind indoors and outdoors.

9. Structure

The structure of the resort depends on the geographic location, the materials used and the construction methods. It is
vital to have a structure that respects the natural elements of the site and is not too superimposing on it. The design can
use materials and local methods of construction that are sustainable and engage the local craftsmen.

10. Accessibility

The resort needs to have fair connectivity with the surrounding context for easy accessibility. There needs to be more
that one way to approach the site for the evacuation of a maximum number of people during an emergency. The layout
must also have different entry and exit points considering the road network around the site for easy mobility.

The beginning stages of resort planning involve determining the guests who will frequent the resort and where the
resort should be located. For example, is this resort a destination for families, or is it a place where only adults can
relax? Understanding the resort’s target market will not only guide the initial design plans but also help pinpoint the
ideal location for the resort.

Identifying Architectural Styles That Align with the Resort’s Theme

Whether the resort will be on the beach or in the mountains, research and conceptualization involve identifying
various architectural styles that fit seamlessly with the resort’s theme. One example is a rustic mountain ski lodge in
the snowy mountains of Utah.

Exploring Local Culture and History for Inspiration

Local culture and history should be considered when incorporating elements into the resort’s design. Because aesthetic
appeal is critical to the success of a resort, architectural elements should include local building materials, and the
buildings should blend effortlessly into the environment. Focusing on these elements will give visitors a memorable
and unique experience that stands apart from the traditional hotel stay.

Sustainable Design Approach

Incorporating Green Building Principles and Eco-Friendly Materials
Sustainability is one of the most increasingly important elements of resort design, primarily as resorts aim to decrease
their environmental impact. By incorporating sustainable design strategies into the resort’s design, architects can plan
destinations that are not only environmentally friendly they’re also economically efficient.

Utilizing Renewable Energy Sources and Energy-Efficient Systems

Because of increasing renewable energy design strategies, resorts can utilize renewable energy sources and energy-
efficient systems in plans. Many resorts focus on water conservation systems, passive cooling systems, and utilizing
local materials. These innovations provide guests with a comfortable environment while using fewer local resources.
Creating a Symbiotic Relationship with the Natural Surroundings
When planning a resort or hotel, architects aim to create a symbiotic relationship with the surroundings. This means
that architects design a resort that balances mutualism, a process where the environment and the building interact to
benefit one another. When planning a resort with this symbiotic relationship in mind, it becomes much more than a
building.

Site Analysis and Master Planning

The design for a resort begins with a site analysis, which allows architects to create a plan that considers the unique
challenges and opportunities of the surrounding environment. The site analysis includes climate, landscape,
topography, and cultural context.

The site analysis also helps to determine an optimal layout for the resort by incorporating space utilization. Architects
can determine where to put the resort so it provides the most stunning views. The site analysis aims to learn how to
artfully integrate architecture with landscaping and outdoor spaces.

Architectural Elements and Aesthetics

Everyone knows that first impressions are essential. The resort’s entrance should be a striking element that welcomes
guests and sets the right tone for the entire stay from the beginning of their experience. Well-designed entrances
beckon patrons to enter and see what else is inside. It also allows the architect to use unique architectural details to
emphasize the resort’s identity. Above all, the goal of resort designs should be to balance functionality and aesthetics
in every detail of the space.

Accommodation Design
Choosing the Right Room Types and Layouts for Guest Comfort
As one of the most critical decisions when designing a resort or hotel, architects must consider the layout of each
room. Individual and communal spaces must be designed with functionality and comfort, giving patrons plenty of
space for activities and relaxation.

Creating Private Retreats with Exceptional Resort Interior Design

The most successful resorts artfully join combined spaces with private retreats that give the guests experiences that
don’t feel shared with all the other guests. Incorporating exceptional interior design should be paramount to creating
an immersive and cohesive experience for guests and giving them a reason to return. You create a loyal customer base
when you differentiate your property from competitors.

Incorporating Balconies, Terraces, or Verandas for a Connection to Nature

Every guest wants a view they can dream about after they leave the resort, such as stunning ocean sights they can
enjoy throughout the day. Incorporate balconies, terraces, or verandas to provide an accessible way for guests to enjoy
their surroundings without having to venture too far from their private rooms.

Signature Facilities and Amenities

Let’s talk about designing iconic facilities and amenities that stand out and define the resort.
Often, the amenities set one resort apart from the others, so it’s essential to focus on creating facilities that will define
the resort. Surrounding architecture must merge seamlessly with the pool, dining, entertainment, and spa spaces to
create an immersive experience. Incorporating innovative design throughout the resort, including recreational and
wellness areas, creates a cohesive space for ultimate relaxation.

As one of the leading resorts in the Park City area, Stein Eriksen Lodge was created with unique amenities that
residents can enjoy year-round. Guests can relax by two outdoor heated pools, experience the Champions Club
Entertainment Center, and watch blockbusters in the Freestyle Theater.

Harmonious Integration with Nature

It’s become increasingly common to create a resort that brings local nature indoors in a beautiful way. This can be
achieved by incorporating open-air suites, living green walls, and sustainable resort landscape architecture. By
focusing on offering a harmonious integration with nature, hotels can center on maximizing natural light and
ventilation, especially in indoor spaces. Incorporating local plants and vegetation into the design only increases this
integration into nature and helps guests feel more immersed in the local environment.

Resort Sustainability and Resilience

Implementing Disaster-Resilient Design Strategies
One of the first steps in hotel design is studying risk factors beyond the resort’s control, such as tsunamis, wildfires, or
earthquakes. This risk assessment should also include things that resort owners can control, like ensuring adequate exit
routes and emergency supplies. After determining what risks can pose a problem for the resort, guests, and staff,
emergency strategies should be incorporated to minimize disasters.

Creating Adaptable and Flexible Buildings for Future Needs

Modern architecture has quickly adapted to integrating flexible buildings that can be transformed and used for
multiple purposes. Many architecture firms have embraced this adjustable approach for sustainability and practicality.
Resorts can use adaptive building design to create limitless opportunities for recreation and unique amenities
throughout the decades.

Evaluating Long-Term Maintenance and Lifecycle Considerations

Resort and hotel architects should determine the long-term maintenance needs of establishing a destination space and
its impact on the local environment. In years past, architects and developers had little consideration for sustainability
and longevity, leading to ill-thought-out plans and endeavors that were not long-lasting. Wise resort planning
considers the resort’s lifecycle considerations and designs to help the resort thrive in different cycles.

Technology and Smart Design

Incorporating technology into planning gives your resort a competitive edge over others. Guests are consistently
drawn to more convenient operation systems, such as mobile check-in, contactless payments, artificial intelligence,
upgraded internet options, and more.

Modern resorts give guests ultimate control of their environment with smart room systems that allow for greater
personalization. Guests can easily control temperature, lighting, and security features in seconds, allowing them to
place settings exactly where they want them. Smart room systems not only help to save energy, but they also allow for
better automation of systems since everything is connected. When integrating technology, the key is maintaining the
balance of the resort’s architectural aesthetics.

Local Regulations and Building Codes

Navigating Local Building Codes and Regulations
Each locale has specific building codes and regulations that must be observed in the planning and building process.
Because resort planning is complex, complying with these codes can be challenging. Nonetheless, a plan must be
implemented to observe all building regulations for successful resort development.

Complying with Environmental and Cultural Preservation Requirements

Because of today’s focus on sustainability, architects are more responsible for complying with local environmental and
cultural preservation requirements. When planning a resort, take into consideration ecological requirements. Not only
is this wise for local environments, but it also helps your resort stand out.

Engaging with Local Architects and Professionals for Expertise

Calling upon the wisdom of local architects and professionals can make all the difference in the final design. These
local professionals know the area well and can offer expertise in navigating building code complexities.
