Introduction
Critically appraise and apply the chosen research methodology for the
project, including critiquing relevant current literature, conducting

empirical research or advanced technical or professional activity, in the are

Deliverable
A 20–30-minute demonstration of your project solution that must include
independent design and critical evaluation. You must also submit a research
report that supports your demonstration. A template is provided separately
that can be modified to fit your own structure. The report should include a user
manual for your demonstrated solution/product.
Guidance
Demonstration should be delivered in such a way as to enable you to cover the
criteria described below in the Assessment section.
When developing your report and presentation you should do so under the
auspice of the audience not being an expert in your project area, as such it
should be tailored to an open audience.

Submission
You must submit your work via Canvas by 2pm on August 4th 2022. The
submission facility will be open prior to this so it can be submitted
before the deadline. You are required to present your project demonstration
via Teams on August 5th 2022. The demonstration will be recorded.
The module team will arrange your individual slot time in advance of the
demonstration.
At the demonstration you are expected to present your work for approximately
20-30 minutes. This will be followed by a Q&A for a similar amount of time (if
required for clarification).

Your work will be assessed using the University of Sunderland Generic
Assessment Criteria which can be accessed at

Marking will be carried out by two markers – your supervisor and a second
marker nominated by the module leader. The markers will agree a mark
following the demonstration.
Assessment Criteria
The assessment criteria and mark scheme used to assess your project viva and
report are provided below. Please ensure you look at these before you start
your project, so you know what we are going to assess you on.

50 - 59% Basic Pass: Close to the minimum acceptable standard for a pass.
Work in this mark range may fail to fulfil one of the major objectives of the
project yet must exhibit a reasonable understanding of the fundamentals of
computer science and digital technologies relevant to their chosen project and
adequate use of technical communication skills, problem solving, independent
study, knowledge of the literature and a disciplined, ethical and professional
approach to tackling a substantial project. The viva demonstrated an
acceptable level of understanding.
60 - 69% Good Pass: Attainment which is overall better than acceptable but
is not outstanding. There is evidence from the work submitted that there is a
sound understanding of the major computer science and digital technologies
relevant to their chosen project together with a reasonable attempt to tackle
more advanced topics and issues. There should be a convincing demonstration
of technical communication skills, problem solving, independent study,
knowledge and application of the literature and a disciplined, ethical, and
professional approach to tackling a substantial project.

context of the work, a capacity for analytic thought, an ability to penetrate a
complex application domain and a high quality of self-appraisal. The standards
of proof and the quality of writing shown in the report should be equivalent to
that of professional publication. The viva provided valuable and thoughtful
insight into innovative research and its outcomes as well as the benefits to the
Apprentice’s organisation and/or sponsor.
