What is AI?
What is AI…?
Artificial Intelligence AI) is a machine-based
system that can, for a given set of human-defined
objectives, make predictions, recommendations or
decisions influencing real or virtual environments

AI and Art
AI and Art
● AI in artistic expression dates back to the mid 20th century
when computer-generated art first emerged
● In 1960s and 1970s AI started gaining momentum as
researchers began to experiment with different AI
techniques
○ Computer-Aided Design CAD
● In the 1980s and 1990s we witnessed the emergence of AI
driven art programs that could automatically generate
images
AI and Art
● Harold Cohen is a British artist
who developed an AI program
called AARON to create original
artwork.
● As the technology of AI advanced so did the complexity
and sophistication of the artwork produce
● The emergence of deep learning and neural networks
are algorithms that enabled AI to analyze and learn from
large data sets of images
Sougwen Chung is a Chinese-born, New York-based artist who explores the relationship between humans
and AI through her artwork and often collaborates with AI algorithms in her creative process, using them as a
tool to enhance her artistic vision
Mario Klingemann is a German
artist and researcher who has
been working with AI and neural
networks for over a decade and
is known for his innovative use
of GANs to create artwork that
challenges traditional notions of
artistic creation and authorship.
PROS
● AI as a mentor for
human artists
● AI-powered tools
becoming
mainstream
● Products are
produced at a faster
rate
● Precision and
consistency
CONS
● Art theft
● Loss of jobs in the
creative space
● Authenticity
● Authorship and
ownership
● Bias

AI and Music
AI and Music
The music industry today is
experiencing tremendous growth
with sales continue to rise as more
platforms are increasing the
accessibility to digital music. How
does the increasing convenience
of AI affect the music industry now
and in the future?
AI and Music
Pros Cons
● Ideas for possible songs ● Replacement of
● Speed creativity→ Loss of
● Accessibility to wider jobs
audiences ● Predictable
● Personalization of the ● Bad quality
music Experience ● Lack of Authenticity
● Vocal Diversity
AI and Music
Since the rapid growth of AI, there has been an exponential increase of the technology in
music related fields. With musical AI resources at our fingertips, more artists are taking
advantage of the technology to come up with inspiration for compositions, and spark
ideas for possible song topics. AI can write lyrics and melodies for songs, creating
cadences that already rhyme, saving the artist time. It can also simplify the music
production process.
But, there are many ethical and technological aspects that play a negative role in the rise
of AI music. Many producers refuse to use AI technologies because it lacks human
ingenuity, therefore is lackluster compared to an original piece made by someone from
scratch. AI cannot replicate human creativity, which causes the technology to create flat
sounding songs, that lack uniqueness. This causes most AI produced songs to sound
robotic, and lifeless compared to a human-made arrangement.

AI and Film
AI and Film
Film in the following years has
experienced tremendous change,
with the rise of streaming
services, changes in production
from the COVID19 pandemic, and
equipment advancements leading
to a greater ease to make movies
not in a high-production setting.
How does the inclusion of AI in the
technological landscape change
modern films and the film
production process?
AI and Film
Pros Cons
● Analysis of scripts ● Bias inherently in AI
● Casting and location systems
scouting ● Unemployment
● Editing and effects ● Creativity
● Storyboarding ● Data privacy issues
● AI-controlled camera ● Ethical concerns
systems
● Sound design
AI and Film
AI is much more accessible to companies and organizations in the present day,
which is changing the way that people do jobs in the film industry, such as
scriptwriters, storyboard artists, casters, and post-production editors, including
many more. There are many benefits to using AI in the Film industry, such as
simplifying the amount of time it takes to find actors, create storyboards, and
come up with scripts. But what are the possible ethical concerns regarded with
using technology to create previously human-made art?
Other concerns to using AI when creating film is the lack of creativity in AI
generated art. Especially when AI is used to make scripts, it lacks human
emotion due to AI not being able to think for itself. There is also a growing
conversation about AIʼs impact on jobs that are replacing scriptwriters, editors,
and casting members. Another concerning aspect of AI creating film is the lack
of data privacy that has been implemented in the process of creating films
through AI.

How will AI advance in the coming years?
Conclusions
● While their are a lot of benefits of ai in
the art world there are still a lot of
issues that need to addressed when it
comes to AI
● Though AI cannot replace human
creativity, AI is becoming more and
more advanced
● There needs to be regulations and
sanctions in place so that AI does not
take over jobs held by creative
industry
