[email protected] Hi Sevak,
I believe my student's success will inspire you to keep practicing consistently in
order to improve your accent and become fully fluent in English.
Here are 8 different techniques that my student Annita used in order to
completely transform her accent.
I will summarize the tips for you in this email.
If you haven’t seen the YouTube video I posted, watch it now to hear how good
her accent sounds.
Here are her top 8 tips she gave in the video:
TIP 1 - She kept emphasizing the importance of being persistent and consistent
with your practice. For her, that means one hour of practice every day, five days
a week. Please remember that regular, daily practice can achieve great
results.
TIP 2 - She also talked about listening to accent reduction audio materials and
repeating. It’s important to repeat after someone who is demonstrating how to
create the correct sounds.
TIP 3 - She reads articles out loud. She records herself and listens to how she

sounds.
TIP 4 – She learned the IPA (The International Phonetic Alphabet). That helps
her to pronounce the sounds correctly. When she doesn’t know how a word is
pronounced, she can look in the dictionary and she can see the IPA symbols. I
recommend that you try to learn the IPA symbols, especially for the vowel
sounds.
TIP 5 – She talks to herself. I like this tip a lot. If you don’t have anyone to
speak with in English, it doesn’t matter. You can practice your pronunciation by
talking to yourself. You are training your brain when you say words and
sentences out loud.
TIP 6 – She keeps a notebook of new words and expressions that she’s
learning. She has a long list and she reads five pages of her notebook every
day. That way she is expanding her vocabulary and growing more confident
about her fluency.
You can also keep a list of words that are difficult for you to pronounce so that
you remember to practice them regularly.
TIP 7 – She watches her favorite TV show, and she pauses in order to write
down new expressions and also to repeat after the actors. This is a great
practice technique. It’s especially good for practicing word stress, melody, and
intonation.
TIP 8 - She has an app on her phone called “LiKe So”. It counts how many
filler words she uses. She tries to avoid filler words such as “like”, “so”,
“anyway” “actually”, “you know” etc. This app helps you to sound more
professional and confident when you’re speaking.
Which of the above practice techniques have you already been using?

imagined."(Henry David Thoreau)
