Subject: Assessment and Evaluation Practices ofthe Board for the Session 2024-25.

The Board in accordance with National Education Policy, 2020 has taken multiple steps
towards implementation of Competency Based Education in schools, ranging from aligning
assessment to competencies, development of exemplar resources for teachers and students
as well as continuous capacity building of the teachers etc. The main emphasis of the Board
was to create an educational ecosystem that would move away from rote memorization and
towards learning that is focused on developing the creative, critical and systems thinking
capacities of students to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

The Board has released guidelines vide Circular No. Acad- 05/2019 dated 18.01 .201 9; Circular
No. Acad-'l 1/2019 dated 06.03.2019; Circular No. Acad-18/2020 dated 16.03.2020; and
Circular No. Acad-57/2022 dated 20.05.2022 to progressively align assessment to the vision
of the NEP by including more competency-based quesllons in the Classes X and Xll Board
examinations.

Appropriately, the Board is continuing with aligning of the assessments and evaluation
practices with NEP- 2020 for the academic session 2024-2025. Consequently, in the
forthcoming session, the percentage of Competency Based Questions that assess application
of concepts in real-life situations included in the question papers of the Board is given as under:

Other Important Instructions: -


Further, the following general guidelines on Assessment and Promotion Policy for classes Balvatika to IX and XI may be noted for the
smooth conduct of assessment for the session 202,1-25.
1. For assessment of students of Balvatika classes, guidelines given in 'The Prerhool Curriculum' by NCER! Chapter-6 (Pg 54-56) needs
to be followed. Further, the guidelines outlined in the National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage (NCF FS ZOZZ;, Chapter-
5 Assessment for Further learning (Pg 1,69-"184) are also to be followed.
2. For assessment of students of Classes, I & 2 guidelines outlined in the National Curriculum Framework of Foundational Stage (NCF FS
2022) Chapter 6 Assessment for Furthering lraming (Pg'169-184) may be referred.
3. "Assessment should measure achievement of Competencies and Leaming Outcomes leading to attainment of Curricular Goals." The
guidelines oudined in NCF SE 2023 (Section 3.4) may be referred to.
4. No Detention Policy as per RTE will continue to be followed for classes I to VIII in 2024-25 & similar policy may be adopted for Balvatika.

5. Multi-disciplinary Projects (MDP) for classes III to VIII will continue to assess holistic learning of the students. Only one MDP is required
to be assigned per term for all subjects. Houetser, in order to couer all subjects if thcre is need, addihonal MDP may be assigned.
5. The qualifying marks for class IX students shall be 33% in each subject. This implies that the student is expected to score 33% including
both Annual examination (80) and Internal Assessment (20) taken together. However, overall 33% marks is also required to promote the
student in the next higher class. For class IX students offering 5 subjects and failing in two of the five subjects shall be placed in
compartrnent in those subjects. And if any student failing in more than 02 subjects shall be treated as 'Essential repeal.
7. The qualifying marks for class XI studenls shall be 337" in each subject. It is to furthei clarify that in a subiect where Practical/ lntemal
Assessment/Project components ar€ involved; separate pass% (33%) is required in Theory component and Practical/ Iotemal
Assessment/Project component. This implies that students need to score 33% out of 70/80 (Theory) and 33% out of 30/20 marks in
Practical/Intemal Assessment/Project separately. The overall 33% marks are also required for the promotion of the students in next
higher class. Students failing in one of the five main subjects in Class XI will be placed under Comparhnent in that subject and students
failing in more than one subject will be treated as'Essential Repeaf. In this regard, KVS HQ letter dated 05.06.2018 is enclosed for your
reference.
8. In class-Xl, Students need to secure 33 % in the supplementary examination (Theory only) to get quali$r for the next higher class where as
in class-IX, the marks obtained in Annual examination will be substituted by the marks in Supplementary examination to decide the
qualifying criteria.
9. Wherever applicable, for the promotion of students of IX and XI, their participation in sports at different Levels, as per KVS guidelines,
needs to be considered and the prescribed weightage as per F.No.110355/01/2019-20/KVS(HQ)/Sports/BOG/480/dated 21..05.2020
should be added to promote the students in the respective subject. This provision should not be used to bring the student to the zone of
Compartment.
10. Moderation Committee is to be constituted as per KVS guidelines to finalize the results of classes IX and XI with Principal as the Chairman
of the Committee and members as decided by the Principal.
11. Art (both performing and visual arts), Work Experience (Vocational Edr.ication), Physical Health & Education for classes III to IX and XI
are to be assessed by TGTflaG!, TGT(AE) and TGT(P&HE) in collaboration with subject teachers of a given class, on 3 point/6 point /9-
point scale as per the guidelines and relevant records are to be maintained by them.
12. For assessment of AI, guidelines issued by KVS need to be followed.
13. Students of classes I to X have to do at least one Art-lntegrated Project work in each subfect as a part of Subject Enrichment Activities
which should be of hans-disciplinary nature. The details of the Project are to be submitted through KALASETU portal of CBSE.
14. The date of declaration of results for the Session Ending Examination for Academic Year 2024-25 wrll be 27d' March 2025,
15. Supplementary Examination in the pattem of Armual Examination for classes IX and XI will be conducted 3 weeks after declaration of
results (May be in the Third week of April 2025) by the Regional Office concerned.
