3 Functional Description
Schematic When the elevator stands still, the car damping device (CDD) stabilizes the car against the
Overview car guide rail (5) by pressing two brake pads (4) against the car guide rail. This stabilization
impedes vertical oscillatory motion of the car induced by load variation when, for example,
people get in or out of the car. The brake linkage (3) is electrically driven by the plunger (6)
of the solenoid (1).
The CDD is not meant to support the payload of the car. Load changes which exceed a
given holding force cause the car to slide smoothly in the respective direction. For
example:
– When a person enters the car, the car slides downward slowly a small distance.
– When a person exits the car, the car slides upward slowly a small distance.
The need for a damping mechanism depends on the elasticity and length of the
suspension and traction media.
The CDD is activated by energizing the solenoid.
A limit switch signals the position (engaged, not engaged) of the CDD with a normally
open contact. See also "Peripherals and Interfaces".

4 Peripherals and Interfaces
Overview The CDD (1) is fastened to the large surface of the CDD support (2) with four hex head
bolts M12x30 and RIP washers.
The CDD support (2) is attached to the underside of the car safety gear (3).

Connectivity The CDD requires:
A signal cable to the limit switch (2).
A power cable to the solenoid (3)
The CDD cable running between OKR and CDD is delivered permanently connected to limit
switch (2) and solenoid (3) on the side of the CDD. On the side of the OKR, it has to be
plugged into its counterpart at the end of a cable tail.

The normally open contact (contact terminals 23 and 24) of the limit switch (2) is used to
signal the position (engaged, not engaged) of the CDD:
Contact open = limit switch not actuated = CDD engaged
Contact closed = limit switch actuated = CDD not engaged.
