GUIDELINES FOR ELECTIVES IN ASUS UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS

The guidelines for electives in ASUS undergraduate programs as approved in 9th combined Board
meeting of Board of Ayurveda and Board of Unani, Siddha and Sowa-Rigpa held on 30.12.2024.

REFERENCE: -
1. The regulation 9(1)(G) and 11(h) of National Commission for Indian System of Medicine
(Minimum Standards of Undergraduate Ayurveda Education) Regulations-2022.
2. The regulation 8(1)(G) and 10(h) of National Commission for Indian System of Medicine
(Minimum Standards of Undergraduate Unani Education), Regulations 2022.
3. The regulation 8(1)(G) and 10(h) of National Commission for Indian System of Medicine
(Minimum Standards of Undergraduate Siddha Education), Regulations 2022.
4. The regulation 8(1)(G) and 10(h) of National Commission for Indian System of Medicine
(Minimum Standards of Undergraduate Sowa-Rigpa Education), Regulations 2022.

REQUIRED NUMBER OF ELECTIVES:

1. An undergraduate student has to qualify minimum of three electives for each professional
session of under-graduation.
2. However, a student who could not qualify three electives in a professional session may
complete during successive professional sessions.
3. Qualifying minimum of three electives shall not be the pre-requisite for appearing in first
and second professional summative/university examinations.
4. In any case a student shall have to qualify nine electives before appearing for third
professional university examinations.
5. Electives will be made available in three groups A, B & C. Students have to enroll minimum
of one elective from each group for each professional session.
6. Un-opted electives in each group will automatically carry forward to successive
professional sessions.

ENROLMENT IN FIRST PROFESSION:

1. Those students whose admissions data has been verified and approved by NCISM, such
students will be provided login credentials for elective enrolment process.
2. The approved students register and enroll for electives as per the procedure specified by
NCISM from time to time and by paying the specified fee.
3. In case pending approval of admissions by NCISM, such students will be provided
temporary enrolment facility for electives.
4. Temporary enrolment facility for electives is to avoid academic loss to students and it shall
not be considered as confirmation/approval of admission by NCISM.

5. Issue of Certificates and allotment of marks for qualified electives through temporary
enrolment shall be subject to final decision of admission approval by NCISM.

RENEWAL OF ENROLMENT IN SECOND PROFESSION:

1. The students are categorized as detailed below on the basis of the results of first
professional summative/university examinations:
a. Passed and promoted (passed all subjects of first profession and promoted to second
profession)
b. Failed but promoted (failed in not more than two subjects of first profession and got
promoted to second profession)
c. Failed and detained (failed in more than two subjects of first profession. Such
students shall not be allowed to continue the studies in second profession, unless
passed in minimum required subjects of first profession for promotion to second
profession)
2. The students of both ‘a & b’ categories will be provided enrolment facility for electives in
second profession.
3. The students of ‘c’ category will not be allowed for elective enrolment for second
profession. Such students shall get eligibility for enrolment only after promotion to second
professional session.

RENEWAL OF ENROLMENT IN THIRD PROFESSION:

1. The students are categorized as detailed below on the basis of the results of second
professional summative/university examinations:
a. Passed and promoted (passed all subjects of second profession and promoted to
third profession)
b. Failed but promoted (failed in not more than two subjects of second profession
and got promoted to third profession)
c. Failed and detained (failed in more than two subjects of second profession. Such
students shall not be allowed to continue the studies in third profession, unless
passed in minimum required subjects of second profession for promotion to
third profession)
2. The students of both ‘a & b’ categories will be provided enrolment facility for electives in
third profession.
3. The students of ‘c’ category will not be allowed for elective enrolment for third profession.
Such students shall get eligibility for enrolment only after promotion to third professional
session.

MARKS ALLOTMENT FOR ELECTIVES:

1. Ten marks for each elective that has been qualified in respective professional session shall
be added in marks of the subjects as specified in regulations (MSE 2022).
2. In case of qualification of multiple electives in a group in a particular profession, in such
case highest marks shall be considered.

Example: Suppose a student qualified three electives in Group-A and the student secured
4, 6, 8 marks respectively, in such case the highest marks ‘8’ shall be considered and added
to the concerned subject.
3. In case a student could not qualify the electives in respective professions but qualified in
successive professional sessions for such electives marks shall not be allotted.
Example: X student qualified only two electives in first profession and qualified four
electives in second profession; in such case:
 In first profession marks will be allotted for only two electives (for the subjects
as specified in regulations) that have been qualified during first profession
 In second profession marks will be allotted for only three electives (for the
subjects as specified in regulations)
 No marks shall be allotted for those electives that have been qualified
additionally in successive professional sessions to meet the required numbers
of electives.

FEE FOR ELECTIVES:

1. Students shall have to pay the fee (amount and mode as specified by NCISM from time to
time) for enrolment of electives.
2. Once enrolled for electives (including temporary enrolment), the fee paid shall not be
refunded
