What is the advantage of the New
Grading System?

▪ The New Grading System has been

introduced to safeguard the students
from psychological pressure of society to
obtain maximum marks/position.
▪ It is a better reflection of the student
achievement being a 10-Point Grading
Scheme.
▪ It will eliminate un-healthy competition
among high achievers. 10
How to calculate GPA
▪ Record the point value for each grade. Write down the
correct point value next to each grade using the
five-point scale. So, if a candidate has an A+ in a
subject, record it 4.7.
▪ Add up all the values of grades. After recording the
scores for grades, add the values up. So, let’s say a
candidate received an A+ in Biology, a B+ in English,
and C in Chemistry. Then add up the totals in the
following way: 4.7+3.7+3.0=11.4.
▪ Take this final number and divide it by the number of
courses taken. If you have a value of 11.4 on a 5-point
scale for three courses, you will calculate the GPA
using the following equation: 11.4/3=3.8. You have a
GPA of 3.8. 11

Is the HEC informed about the Policy?
• Yes,
the Policy has been communicated with
HEC, PEC and PMDC.

Should all Institutions Change Their

Grading Criteria?
• The Board encourages all Institutions to revisit
their grading criteria and align it with the new
grading policy so that students and teachers
become familiar and adjust to the new grading
system. 21
Do universities need to consider Old
Grading System or New Grading
System during the Admissions?

▪ From 2024-2025 (in the next two academic

years, Universities may refer to CGPA or
grades provided by the Examination
Boards, or they may continue using raw
scores for the Admission purpose.
▪ However, starting from 2026, all Colleges
and Universities will refer to CGPA only
for Admissions as raw marks will not be
shown in the mark sheet.
