The term rainwater harvesting is frequently used these days; however, the concept of water harvesting
is not new to India. Water harvesting techniques had been evolved and developed centuries ago.
Rainwater harvesting means capturing the runoff of the rainwater in our own house, village, town, or
city. It means accumulating and storing rainwater for reuse before it reaches the aquifer. Utilization
includes water for gardens, livestock, irrigation, etc. In many places, the water collected is just
redirected to a deep pit with percolation. The harvested water can also be used for drinking water if the
