GMETRES with GTSSEM and GDDISSEM
Term 1 | AY 2024-2025
UA Charisms-Based Syllabus (2024)
Course Code, Title
GMETRES: Methods of Research (3 units; 54 hours)
(linked with GTSSEM: Thesis Seminar and GDDISSEM: Dissertation Seminar)
Course Description
The GMETRES for the MAEd program as a three-unit course is ultimately aimed at
enabling the adult learners to revalidate the value of research in their graduate
education, and in innovating their teaching and/ or leading practices. This goes with
the provision of relevant content, activities, and use of pedagogies that would allow
them to experience the joy of re-learning and simplifying the research process that
would facilitate their decision-making in determining their individual paths toward
thesis/ dissertation writing (Thesis/ Dissertation Seminar component).
The course covers the review of the concepts of research, the SDGs, the UA Research
Agenda, the rudiments and language of research, the essentials of scientific and
ethical conduct and writing of research, conceptualization of topics, the review of
related literature/ studies, citing references (APA 7th edition format), research
methods, presenting and discussing results/ findings, paraphrasing, and summarizing
content, criteria for evaluating proposals and final outputs, and mock presentation.
(For the Thesis Seminar students: the oral presentation of their proposal shall be the
ultimate target requirement).
The entire journey in the GMETRES with GTSSEM shall be guided by the “Anam a
Kalam” or the Six Charisms of the University. The researchers’ (truth-seekers’)
academic and personal excellence, as well as adherence to ethical standards and
academic honesty, respect and practice of social responsibility as manifestation of
their “faith witnessing” shall be the foremost values for integration.
