concentrator 30-35 cm
away from the wall for
circulation of air
Concentrator – Plug in concentrator and
turn on device
Allow to run for 5 minutes

shows appropriate
concentrations of oxygen
Oxygen concentrators produce 85-96% oxygen are reached
from ambient air using two sieve beds

Secure tubing with tape
COMPLICATIONS
• Hypoxia 4. MONITORING THE PATIENT
• Hyperoxia
Monitor using a pulse oximeter
REMINDER Adjust regulator flow up or
• Target saturations for infants on oxygen are 90-95% down
• Any amount of oxygen given without appropriate Patient saturation goal is
monitoring of oxygen saturations can cause harm 90–95%
Assess RR, HR, work of
DISINFECTION & INFECTION PREVENTION breathing and nostril patency
• Clean hands with soap and water or 70% alcohol before while on oxygen therapy
and after handling materials that are used on patients
• Begin reprocessing oxygen tubing according to ward If oxygen flow is more than
guidelines immediately after use 1 L/min and saturations less
• Disinfect oxygen concentrator unit housing and regulators than 90%, consider
using gauze or cotton swabs and 70% alcohol after every use switching to CPAP
