CHAPTER I
THE PROBLEM
Introduction
Education is the cornerstone of personal and societal
development, and it’s efficacy is a subject of perpetual exploration and
refinement. In the dynamic landscape of education, optimizing the
learning process is paramout for both students and educators. The
quest to enhance learning outcomes has led to a myriad of study
techniques, strategies and approaches. With the ever-expanding toolkit
available to students, it becomes imperative to scrutinize and discern
the true impact of these methods. As a students face increasingly
diverse learning environments and demands, the ability to optimize
their study methods becomes a critical factor in determining academic
success.
Study Techniques are typically described as the specific methods
individuals favor when acquiring, structuring, and processing
information. These styles encompass behaviors associated with how
people engage with learning settings, encompassing their
psychological, cognitive and emotional interactions within these
environments. Study Techniques pertain to the ways learners prefer to
receive, absorb, and remember information during instructions, and
these preferences are intertwined with their motivation and how they
habitually process information (Aragon, Johnson,& Shaik 2011).
1
Understanding the diverse learning style preferences of students
in applied sciences programs can ultimately result in improved learning
experiences. In a study by Alavi and Toozandchiam (2017), it was
concluded that being aware of students learning styles can enhance
their learning and promote their self – actualization .
This study need to explore long – term impacts, variations in
effectiveness based on individual differences, the influence of
motivation and engagement, the potential for comprehensive meta –
analysis , peer influence, and the impact of teacher support, all of
which could lead to a more nuanced understanding of how study
techniques affect learning outcomes.
This research aims to identify the various study techniques
employed by grade 10 students in their study habits and assess how
these practices impact their class participation. The study focuses on
analyzing the effectiveness of these study techniques to understand
their influence on the learning outcomes of grade 10 students.
Statement of the Problem
1. What is the students study techniques?
2
2. What is the learning outcomes of the Grade 10 students?
3. Is there a significant relationship between the students study
techniques and their learning outcomes?
Significance of the Study
The findings of this study will be great benefit to the following:
Students. Students will experience enhanced techniques specifically
designed to improve their learning outcomes, which could result in
higher grades and an increased sense of academic confidence.
Teachers. In this study teachers can gain insights into which study
techniques are most effective for Grade 10 students enabling them to
provide guidance and support.
Parents. Parents can gain valuable knowledge about effective study
techniques to support their children’s learning at home.
School Administrators. School Administrators can use the findings to
make informed decisions about curriculum development.
Future Researchers. Future researchers can build upon this study
findings, contributing to a growing body of knowledge about effective
educational strategies and potentially uncovering new insights to
further enhance learning outcomes among students.
Scope and Delimitation
3
The study specifically focuses on Analyzing the Effectiveness of
Study Techniques on Learning Outcomes among the Grade 10
students. The researchers had 20 participants in Grade 10 Amber and
20 participants in Grade 10 Diamond.
