2. DESIGN LOADS AND LOAD COMBINATIONS

2.1. Dead Loads

Dead loads of structural component/member will be calculated from their respective

sizes and specific weights.

Following specific weights will be used for computing dead loads.

 Reinforced Concrete 150 pcf

 Plain Cement Concrete 145 pcf
 Block Masonry 145 pcf
 Soil 110 pcf
2.2. Superimposed Dead Loads

Superimposed dead loads of component / member will be

calculated from their respective sizes and specific weights. It will
include dead loads from floor finishes. Following are the
superimposed loads

2.4. Earthquake Loads

Earthquake Loads are applied as Building Code of Pakistan Seismic

Provisions 2007 and UBC-97.
The following parameters are used in design.

 Seismic Zone =4 (Ref. BCOP 2007)

 Soil Profile Type (Geotechnical) = SD (stiff soil profile)
 Seismic Source Type =A (Ref. Table 16-U)
 Special Moment Resisting Frame Interaction system as per UBC-
97.
 Response Modification Coefficient (R) = 8.5 (Ref. Table 16-N)
 Importance Factor =1.0
 Mass Source = (DL+SDL+0.25% LL)

2.5. Load Combinations

 Load combinations of self load, superimposed load, live load, water load and
earthquake loads are considered to envelop maximum response of the member
for the safe design of the structure. Code based eccentricity of 5% is also
consider in earthquake load combinations.

AREA OF FOOTING (A)

Area of footing A = R/qnet

Total service load on both columns R = 326 K
so,
Area of footing A = R/qnet = 141.89 ft^2

Distance of resultant from exterior line = 8.3 ft
Location of resultant of column loads from C1 = b' = 3.3 ft
Location of resultant of column loads from C2 = b'' = 4.8 ft
Total length of footing L = 16.6 ft
Area of footing = A = 141.89 ft^2
Width of footing B = A/L = 8.6 ft
So,

Maximum shear force from SFD Vmax = 28.97 K
One way shear Vu1 = Vmax-qu*d = 24.11 K

TWO WAY SHEAR (PUNCHING SHEAR) CHECK

*Two way/punching shear is checked at distance d/2 from face of column.

For Interior Column C2
Max Column size C2 = 15 Inch

(c2+d)^2 = 4.52 ft^2
Effective perimeter for two way shear bo = 4(c2+d) 8.50 ft
Two way shear from all side of column is Vu2 = Pu2-qu*(c2+d)^2 = 56.9 K

Shear strengh provided by concrete ФVc = 4Ф 𝑓𝑐′bod = 251.40 K

Two way shear check is satisfied so depth of

footing is sufficient for two way shear

For Exterior Column C1

Max Column size C1 = 15 Inch
Distance on one side for two way shear = (c1+d) = 25.5 Inch
(c1+d)^2 = 4.52 ft^2
Effective perimeter for two way shear bo = 4(c1+d) 8.50 ft
Two way shear from all side of column is Vu2 = Pu2-qu*(c1+d)^2 = 56.9 K

Shear strengh provided by concrete ФVc = 4Ф 𝑓𝑐′bod = 175.98 K

CHECKING OF ASSUMED DEPTH BY SHEAR REQUIREMENTS

CHECK FOR ONE WAY SHEAR

*Check one way shear at the distance "d" from the face of the wall
Effective Depth of footing d = 10.5 Inch
Maximum shear force from SFD Vmax = 27.44 K
One way shear Vu1 = Vmax-qu*d = 18.64 K

Shear strength provided by concrete ФVc = 2Ф 𝑓𝑐′bd 72.46 K

One way shear check is satisfied so depth of
footing is sufficient for one way shear

TWO WAY SHEAR (PUNCHING SHEAR) CHECK

*Two way/punching shear is checked at distance d/2 from face of column.

For Interior Column C2
Max Column size C2 = 15 Inch
Distance on one side for two way shear = (c2+d) = 25.5 Inch
(c2+d)^2 = 4.52 ft^2
Effective perimeter for two way shear bo = 4(c2+d) 8.50 ft
Two way shear from all side of column is Vu2 = Pu2-qu*(c2+d)^2 = 53.5 K

Shear strengh provided by concrete ФVc = 4Ф 𝑓𝑐′bod = 251.40 K

Two way shear check is satisfied so depth of

footing is sufficient for two way shear

For Exterior Column C1

Max Column size C1 = 15 Inch
Distance on one side for two way shear = (c1+d) = 25.5 Inch
(c1+d)^2 = 4.52 ft^2
Effective perimeter for two way shear bo = 4(c1+d) 8.50 ft
Two way shear from all side of column is Vu2 = Pu2-qu*(c1+d)^2 = 53.5 K

Shear strengh provided by concrete ФVc = 4Ф 𝑓𝑐′bod = 175.98 K

Two way shear check is satisfied so depth of

footing is sufficient for two way shear
