1. History:A branch of Social Science that deals with the systematic study of significant past, branch of knowledge that is
written or recorded.
2. Historiography:The analysis and writing of history, focusing on the methods, sources,motivations and perspectives
historians use to interpret and present historical events.
3. Anthropology: The study of human societies, cultures, and their evolution, examining biological and cultural aspects to
understand humanity.
4. Archaeology: The study of human history through the excavation and analysis of artifacts, structures, and other physical
remains left behind by past civilizations.
5. Primary Source: Original materials from the time of an event or period these are eyewitness accounts, offering direct
evidence.
6. Secondary Source:These are works that interpret and analyze primary sources, written by historians or scholars after the
fact, to provide a secondhand understanding of an event.
7. Tertiary Source: These are summaries or overviews of information compiled from primary and secondary sources, such as
encyclopedias, textbooks, or reference works.
8. External Criticism: The method of assessing the authenticity and origin of historical documents or artifacts by examining
their physical properties.
9. Internal Criticism: The examination of the content, logic, and credibility of the information within a historical source to
evaluate its reliability and accuracy.
10. Content Analysis: A method of studying and analyzing the content of texts to identify the author’s main argument..
11. Contextual Analysis: An examination of historical events or texts within the context of their time and environment.
12. History as a Western Concept: This concept of history only recognizes a past event part of history if the occurrence is
written or documented.
13. Kasaysayan as a Filipino Concept: Kasaysayan includes both written records and oral traditions such as communal
songs, legends, and epics.
14. Bipartite: Philippine history that is divided in two distinctive parts: Pre-Hispanic and Hispanic period.
15. Tripartite: Ilustrados, rejected the bipartite view of history imposed by the Spaniards and proposed other views which are
divided into three distinctive parts: Pre-Colonial, Colonial Period, Post Colonial Period.
