Keep Exams in School Education

We all had taken some kinds of exams at school, but people differ greatly on
the role or function exam has on the process of study.. How do you think about exams
at school? Is it useful or harmful to? Do you like to take it? What is your feeling of
examination? Scared? There are a lot of students fear off or even hate taking exam at
all. Recently, several schools abolished final exam, they said Exams give students a
lot of psychological stress; it is cramming a week before the exam works, and so on.
So should exams be eliminated from all school boards? My point of view on this is a
definite NO. To me exams are part of school life that all students have to go through.
There are undeniable advantages by arranging exams at school. I believe that they
should not be abolished because the purpose of the examination is to check the
learning effect, give the learners appropriate pressure to promote their learning.
Furthermore, it is critical for the detection of the learning gap among all the learners
to understand the overall class performance. That way teachers at any time can adjust
the pace of teaching. Exam is the only way for teachers to get feedback from their
students build high moral standards and discipline in the students, and gives pressure
that will be useful later in the life for the students. In the following text, I will argue
for my position as mentioned before on this important issue.

Firstly, examinations are a means of examining students' learning outcomes.

“A test or examination (informally, exam or evaluation) is an assessment intended to
measure a test-taker's knowledge, skill, aptitude, physical fitness, or classification in
many other topics.” (Testing or inspection (informal, examination or evaluation) is the
estimated measure of knowledge, skill, ability, physical quality, or classification of
test personnel in many other subjects). These examinations are a measurement tool
that examines whether a student meets the national standard for grade levels and
subject areas. Then teachers, parents and students can know where they are, and how
much students have mastered knowledge with full and complete comprehension.
Also, in this way the teachers will obtain feedback from the students. To ensure that
the students understand what the teacher had taught, the exams are held.
Secondly, I believe that examinations are a driving force for learning. The
exam will bring some pressure, but it also promotes the motivation of the students to
learn. As a video students discussed: Should school exams be abolished? Some of
them believe the exams bring too much pressure on them. They get over stressed and
anxious that can really affect their social state and their mental state. Some agree that
exams should be abolished that people think exams are that one type of cramming is
last-minute study. Because of this, the students cramming will have to put aside their
social life. They must sacrifice some of their sleeping time and under great pressure
and tension. Well, I think, they are wrong because cramming is a part of not only
study but life itself. If students have a good study method such as keeping in touch
with the books everyday, they don't have to study at the very last minute. They will
surely get enough sleep, free from pressure and tension because they know that they
are ready for the exam. And, at the same time the students can have their social life
and study at the same times. Furthermore, Examinations are a driving force for
students to make be more active in study. Abolishing the examination system will
only make students lazy. They will spend less time in reading since there is not that
much pressure from the school anymore; they will assume that since they understand
what the teacher says in classroom, so their own knowledge of the subject is
abundant, but in fact they do not have a good hold of the whole book at all. And the
examination system happens to eliminate the students' inertia, if we don't have these
tests students could fall behind and nobody would know. For this reason, I believe
that exams should be kept as it is now since it has a lot of positive effects.
Finally, Examination is also the means a teacher can apply frequently to
learn of the real status of students learning. That way the teacher can change his/her
teaching methods accordingly to improve the quality of teaching. Can be subject to
local adjustment, and so on. As “the Assessments: Why they Are Important and How
They Benefit Student Learning” said, ‘(To) help identify students who may be
struggling and the content they are having difficulty with so teachers can provide the
targeted extra help these students need to succeed.’ ‘Measure how well schools have
aligned their curriculum and instruction to the academic standards.’ ‘Provide valuable
information to teachers to help them improve their classroom teaching and learning by
identifying and addressing areas of student weakness on the tests and adjusting their
instruction accordingly.’ And also, as the video Toronto debating: Exams measure
memory, not learning (Debate), Danielle said students have an opportunity to ask
teachers to write better questions, that shows students that not only did students
memorize but students learned about it. Students can ask also that the teacher could
ask scenario-based questions, which really would mimic what will happen in the real
world, not every single thing that students need to do to complete a task but what is
the first thing students should be doing, what is the best thing needs to be done under
those circumstances. Therefore, teachers can take different ways and different
questions to examine the actual learning situation of students. So there will be some
different learning materials for different levels of students to take a different way of
teaching, so that students in varying degrees of knowledge to be remedied and
improved. This is also the principle of teaching students. It is in this sense that this
paper argues that examination system is necessary.
In conclusion, exams should not be abolished. Its existence in teaching has
important significance. The exam can not only check the real situation of learning,
help find the loopholes in learning, make up for it, and change from the appropriate
pressure into the driving force of student learning, improve learning methods and
efficiency. In addition, the examination is to help teachers understand the real
situation of students learning to help teachers improve teaching methods, so as to
ensure the quality of teaching, teaching so long to meet the country's teaching
standards.
