INSIGHT INTO HUMANITARIAN CLUB ESTABLISHMENT
What’s Humanitarian?
Humanitarianism is a philosophy and practice centered on promoting the well-being
and dignity of all people. It involves providing aid and assistance to those in need,

The specific aims and objectives of a humanitarian club can vary depending on the
organization's focus and the interests of its members.
PRINCIPLES OF HUMANITARIANISM
The principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality and independence are
fundamental to humanitarian action.
• Humanity means that human suffering must be addressed wherever it is
found, with particular attention to the most vulnerable.
• Neutrality means that humanitarian aid must not favour any side in an
armed conflict or other dispute.
• Impartiality means that humanitarian aid must be
provided solely on the basis of need, without
discrimination.
• Independence means the autonomy of humanitarian objectives from
political, economic, military or other objectives.
7
Humanitarian principles are endorsed by 2 UN General Assembly resolutions
(46/182 and 58/114). They guide the work of all actors working in the
humanitarian sphere, defining what humanitarian aid is: delivering life-saving
assistance to those in need, without any adverse distinction.
They distinguish humanitarian aid from other activities, for example those of
political, religious, ideological, or military nature. Adherence to the
humanitarian principles facilitates access and acceptance and helps
humanitarian workers carry out their work.
HUMANITARIAN CLUB ACTIVITIES
Humanitarian clubs engage in various activities to promote their aims and objectives
and make a positive impact on their communities and the world. Here are some
common activities conducted by humanitarian clubs:
1. Awareness Campaigns: Organize campaigns, workshops, and events to
raise awareness about humanitarian issues, such as poverty, human rights
violations, and global crises.
2. Fundraising Events: Hold fundraisers, like bake sales, charity runs, or
charity auctions, to collect funds for humanitarian causes and charities.
3. Volunteer Work: Plan and participate in volunteer activities, such as
serving meals at shelters, visiting nursing homes, or helping with community
clean-ups.
4. Clothing and Food Drives: Collect and distribute clothing and non-
perishable food items to those in need in the community.
5. Educational Initiatives: Conduct seminars, discussions, and workshops to
educate members and the community about humanitarian topics and
solutions.
6. International Outreach: Partner with global organizations to support
international development projects, disaster relief efforts, or sponsorship
programs.
7. Advocacy and Petitions: Lobby for changes in policies and laws that affect
humanitarian issues, and initiate petitions to garner public support.
8
8. Humanitarian Trips: Plan and participate in trips to areas affected by
disasters or conflict to provide hands-on assistance and relief efforts.
9. Letter Writing Campaigns: Write letters to political leaders and
organizations advocating for humanitarian causes or for specific individuals
in need.
10. Environmental Initiatives: Promote sustainability and environmental
responsibility, as environmental issues often intersect with humanitarian
concerns.
11. Cultural Exchange: Organize events to celebrate diversity and promote
cultural understanding within the community.
12. Public Awareness: Use social media, blogs, and other platforms to share
stories and information about humanitarian causes and successful projects.
13. Microloans and Economic Empowerment: Support microloan programs to
help individuals in developing countries start businesses and improve their
economic situations.
14. Disaster Preparedness: Conduct training and preparedness programs to
help communities respond effectively to disasters and emergencies.
These activities enable humanitarian clubs to create a positive impact, foster
empathy, and engage with local and global communities in addressing humanitarian
challenges.
HUMANITARIAN CLUB HIERARCHY
A humanitarian club typically has a hierarchy or leadership structure to ensure the
organization functions effectively. While the specific titles and roles may vary,
here's a common hierarchy for a humanitarian club:
1. President or Chairperson: The highest-ranking member responsible for
overseeing the club, setting its direction, and representing it to the school,
community, or organization. He/she ensures the club goals must be well represented
internally and externally.
9
2. Vice President or Vice Chairperson: Assists the president and may step in when
the president is absent. Often takes on special responsibilities as needed.
3. Secretary: Keeps records of club meetings, maintains communication, and
handles administrative tasks like sending out announcements and minutes.
4. Treasurer: Manages the club's finances, including budgeting, fundraising, and
record-keeping for funds collected and spent.
5. Event Coordinator or Activities Director: Plans and organizes club activities,
meetings, and events, such as fundraisers, volunteer projects, and awareness
campaigns.
6. Public Relations Officer: Handles club communication, including social media
updates, promotional materials, and interactions with the community and media.
7. Membership Coordinator: Manages membership records, recruits new members,
and ensures current members stay engaged.
8. Adviser or Faculty Sponsor: Often, a teacher or faculty member serves as an
adviser to provide guidance, support, and ensure the club complies with school or
organizational policies.
10. General Members: All other members who participate in club activities, events,
and initiatives.
The roles and titles within a humanitarian club can be adjusted to fit the club's
specific needs and structure. Smaller clubs may have a simplified hierarchy, while
larger organizations may have more positions and committees. The key is to have a
clear structure that allows for effective leadership, organization, and division of
responsibilities.
