1. Câu điều kiện loại 0 - điều kiện luôn có thật tại hiện tại.

If + S + V (present simple), S + V (present simple).


Eg: If water reaches 100 degrees celsius, it boils.
2. Câu điều kiện loại 1 - điều kiện có thể xảy ra ở hiện tại hoặc tương lai.
If + S + V (present simple), S + will/can/may (not) + V.
3. Câu điều kiện loại 2 - điều kiện không có thực ở hiện tại.
If + S + V (past simple), S + would/could (not) + V.
4. Câu điều kiện loại 3 - điều kiện không có thực trong quá khứ.
If + S + had + V (past perfect), S + would/could (not) have + V (past perfect).
5. Mixed conditionals (câu điều kiện hỗn hợp) - điều kiện ngược với quá khứ, quá khứ này tác động
vẫn còn lưu giữ đến hiện tại nên chúng ta sẽ ước ngược với hiện tại.
If + S + had + V (past perfect), S + would/could/might + V (+ now).
Example: If she hadn’t worked late last night, she wouldn’t be too tired now.
6. Trường hợp khác
- unless = if … not
Example: Unless I work hard, I will fail this exam.
= If I don’t work hard, I will fail this exam.
- so/as long as & provided/providing that
Example: My brother’s mistake won’t be discovered as long as nobody tells him.
= My brother’s mistake won’t be discovered if nobody tells him.
- or/otherwise
Example: Ms Trang helped me a lot, otherwise I would have failed this term.
= If Miss Trang hadn’t helped me a lot, I would have failed this term.
= Ms Trang helped me a lot, without which I would have failed this term.
- when/as soon as
Example: I will take you to school as soon as I finish my work.
- in case
Example: You should call your parents in case there are any problems.
- without
Example: Without water, life wouldn't exist.
= If there were no water, life wouldn't exist.
