for your protection and love. Help us focus our
hearts and minds now on what we are about to

we discover more about the world around us.
We ask this in the name of your son, Jesus Christ.
Amen.

Good morning, Ma’am!

2. Greetings (Students will arrange their chairs properly)

arrange your chairs properly.
Okay you may now take your seats. We’re good Ma’am. It’s good to see you too!

It’s good to see you class, how was your

day?

3. Checking of Attendance Ma’am everybody is present today.

Shaika, please check your attendance. Is
there anyone who is absent today?
I’m glad to know that you are all present
today!

B. Review of the Previous Lesson

Before we proceed to our new lesson, let us
have first a review to the topic we discussed
last meeting.

Is there anyone who can recall what we

tackled last time? We discussed last time about problem solving
involving triangle similarity and right triangles,
Yes, Johnuel? You are raising your hand. Ma’am.

Very good! In determining how far

someone is from his point, what relation or
theorem we can use?

Is there someone who would like to give a

try? Yes, Ma’am. We can use the Pythagorean theorem
in order to determine how far someone is from his
Rhea, would you like to give a try? point.

Correct! Thank you for trying Rhea.

How about in finding how long a tie is

given the measures of the sides and the
angle measures both 45 in a right triangle? We can apply the 45 - 45 - 90 right triangle
theorem in finding how long a tie is given the

Excellent! It seems like you really

understand our topic, Now let’s proceed to

Give yourself a round of applause.

D. Lesson Proper
From our activity what do you think is our It is related to trigonometry Ma’am.
topic for today?

Yes, Sarah?

Good guess Sarah. Our topic for today is

related to trigonometry specifically At the end of the lesson, the students should be able
illustrating trigonometric ratios. to:
a. illustrate the six trigonometric ratios: sine,
Can you please read the objectives King? cosine, tangent, secant, cosecant, and
cotangent;
b. determine the relationship between the
trigonometric ratios and their equivalence;
and
c. relate the six trigonometric ratios into real-
life situations.

Thank you, King. So, these are our

objectives.

Let’s have a short review on trigonometry.

(Showing the meaning through power point
presentation)
Anyone who can read the meaning of (He will read the meaning on the screen)
trigonometry?

Yes, Alex?
Thank you. We have here a right triangle.
(Shows the picture on the screen)

The small letter c represents what part of a Hypotenuse Ma’am.

right triangle?

Yes, Irish?
It represents the legs of a right triangle Ma’am.
Good! What about the small letter a and b?

Yes, Dwayne?

Correct! And we will encounter the symbol

θ it is read as “theta” which is considered as
an acute angle in a right triangle.

In our right triangle, let θ be ∠ B ,

Therefore:

a is the side adjacent of 𝜃 or ∠𝐵

b is the side opposite of 𝜃 or ∠𝐵
c is the hypotenuse

We have here the six trigonometric functions.

The symbol for sine is sin, what about the The symbol for cosine is cos Ma’am.
cosine?

Yes, Mariane?
The symbol for tangent is tan Ma’am.
Very Good! What about tangent?

Christian? You are raising your hand?

Good! These three primary trigonometric

functions have their reciprocal functions
which are:
The reciprocal function for sine is cosecant, Ma’am the reciprocal function of cosine is secant.
what about the reciprocal function of cosine?

Yes, Denevic?
It is cotangent Ma’am.
You’re right Denivic. What about tangent?

Yes, Shiela?

To easily remember the equations of the

different six trigonometric functions, we will
use SOH-CAH-TOA.

We have here our right triangle a while ago

and let us express these functions into
equations and illustrate their ratios.
Example 1.

First is SOH, it stands for,

S = sine
O = opposite
H = Hypotenuse

Opposite
sine θ=¿
Hypotenuse Ma’am its reciprocal function is cosecant, so
What about its reciprocal function? Hypotenuse
cosecant θ=¿
Opposite
Yes, Kurt?

You are absolutely right, Kurt. In our (Student’s board work)

illustration, let θ be ∠ B, who wants to try to
write on the board the opposite and the Opposite

Angel? Do you want to give it a try? b

sine θ=¿
c

Nice try, Angel. What about its reciprocal

function? Hypotenuse
cosecant θ=¿
Opposite
Yes, Ken? You are raising your hand?
c
cosecant θ=¿
b

Very Good! Second is CAH, it stands for,

C = cosine
A = adjacent
H = hypotenuse

Adjacent
cosine θ=¿
Hypotenuse

What about its reciprocal function? Ma’am its reciprocal function is secant, so
Hypotenuse
secant θ=¿
Yes, Jehan? Adjacent

You’re right, Jehan. Who wants to try to

write on the board the adjacent and the
hypotenuse side of the mnemonic CAH?
Adjacent
Lester? You are raising your hand? cosine θ=¿
Hypotenuse

cosine θ=¿
c
Excellent! What about its reciprocal
function?

Yes, Roselyn? Hypotenuse

secant θ=¿
Adjacent

c
Absolutely right, Roselyn. Now, let’s secant θ=¿
a
proceed to TOA. it stands for,

T = tangent
O = opposite
A = adjacent

Opposite
tangent θ=¿
Adjacent

What about its reciprocal function?

Yes, Waldrich?
Ma’am its reciprocal function is cotangent, so
Adjacent
cotangent θ=¿
Opposite
Good! Is there anyone who wants to try to
write on the board the opposite and the
adjacent side of the mnemonic TOA?

Cielo? Do you want to give a try?

Opposite
tangent θ=¿
Adjacent

b
tangent θ=¿

Nice try Cielo. What about its reciprocal

function?

Yes? Chester?

Adjacent
cotangent θ=¿
Opposite

Very good! a
cotangent θ=¿

Example 2. Determine the equations or
ratios using the six trigonometric functions.

Let θ be ∠ T ,

What is our sin T?

Yes, Princess?

Good! What about the reciprocal function of t

sin T? sin T = , Ma’am.
s
Yes, Glaymar?

You’re right, Glaymar. What about cos T?

s
Yes, Jaynalyn? csc T = , Ma’am.
t
Good! What about the reciprocal function of
cos T?
a
Brent? Any idea? Ma’am cos T =
t
Absolutely right, What about tan T?

Jane? Do you want to give it a try?

t
Nice try, Jane. What about the reciprocal of It is secant = Ma’am.
a
tan T?

Yes? Xander?
t
Yes, Ma’am, it is tan T =
r
In knowing the six trigonometric ratios, did
you know that you can apply it to roof a
house and to find the height of a building?
When you are seeing a house, what do you r

actually observe about the shape of the roof t

Diana? Any idea?

Good observation Diana. That is because

triangle shape is inherently rigid that’s why
there are constructions that is made by this
shape.
Ma’am I observed that the roofs are in triangular
E. Application shape.
We will have a group activity. I will group
you into three groups and express the
functions into equations and illustrate their
ratios. One member of each group will
present their output.
