Hello families,
Happy Friday! Thank you for another beautiful week at Josyf Cardinal Slipyj.
On Wednesday, we hosted a learning session for area schools with a representative from EQAO. Our grade 3 and
grade 6 teachers participated, and learned new teaching strategies and learning models to help support our
students. It was also a great way for staff to engage with neighbouring schools and to exchange tips and tricks for
academic success.
As mentioned last week, we have been selected as one of seven schools to have a School Nutrition Program. On
Thursday, we received our first shipment of healthy snacks! The room has been painted, and shelving is being built
this weekend! There is still a lot of work to get us fully up and running, but we will start on Monday. We hope to do
two days a week to start and grow to five days a week very quickly. Please encourage your child to only take what
they need. Excess food will be used to help others with food insecurity. Please remind your child that food cannot
be taken outside, and that garbage must be disposed of in the classroom garbage cans. This is a wonderful
program, providing students with healthy options including dairy, fruits/veggies, and grains.
Next week, kindergarten registration opens on SOAR for September 2025 start. Please pass on this information to
friends and family who have littles ready to start school in the fall.
Friendly reminder that author Marcha Forchuk is visiting JCS on January 29. Marsha's new book (Kidnapped from
Ukraine) will be for sale on the day of her presentation. The book will be $10 (cash only).
Have a wonderful weekend with your loved ones.
Sincerely,
Ms. Aquilina
