Make a Plant Model

Grade Level: 2
Subject: Science
Project Title: “Parts of a Plant”

Objective:
You will create a 3D model of a plant to learn about its different parts and
what each part does.
Materials Needed:
 For the Model:
o Cardboard or thick paper
o Green construction paper
o Scissors
o Glue or tape
o Markers or crayons
o Optional: Natural materials like leaves, twigs, or flowers
 For Labels:
o Small pieces of paper or sticky notes
Instructions:
1. Choose Your Plant:
o Pick a plant you want to make a model of. It can be a flower,
tree, or any plant you like!
2. Learn About the Parts:
o Find out the main parts of a plant. You need to include:
 Roots: They help the plant stay in the ground and drink
water.
 Stem: It holds the plant up and carries water and food.
 Leaves: They make food for the plant using sunlight.
 Flowers: They help the plant make seeds.
3. Plan Your Model:
o Think about how you will show each part. Here are some
ideas:
 Roots: Use brown paper or real twigs.
 Stem: Use a cardboard tube or a rolled-up piece of
paper.
 Leaves: Cut out leaf shapes from green paper.
 Flowers: Draw flowers on paper or use real ones if you
have them.
4. Make Your Model:
o Start building your plant model using your materials.
o Make sure each part is easy to see!
5. Label the Parts:
o Write the name of each part on a small piece of paper (like
“Roots” and “Leaves”). You can also draw a simple picture if
you want!
6. Practice Your Presentation:
o Get ready to show your model to the class! You can tell us:
 What your plant is called.
 What each part does.
Due Date:
 Bring your finished plant model to class by NOVEMBER 4, 2024
Tips for Success:
 Have fun and be creative!
 Ask a family member for help if you need it.
 Practice talking about your model at home.

Evaluation:
Your project will be graded on:
 How well you made your model
 If you labeled each part correctly
 How clearly you explained your model to the class.
Enjoy making your plant model!
